This is actually what always makes me cringe. The people that spam chats with "nice tits" or say they got the job by being a woman can just be labeled as idiots and ingnored (most of the time). But the ones that always behave like creeps and think they are supportive by never actually praising them for how good they are at their job, but just keep proposing and shit are troublesome.

There was one female commentator in german football, that was the worst piece of trash casting i've ever heard. Women are usually used to look nice in front of the camera and to improve the image of tv shows as being gender neutral, but women in sports broadcasting simply do not perform nearly on the same level as men. How much of that is contributed by the fact that they don't get the same facilitation is a difficult question to answer.

I don't know but I really hope we don't get a female caster for the next big even which does is not very good at the game because of this thread.

Know what ? Though I'd like to be wrong so much, I often think that Twitch chats are more representative of the community that, say, TL.net. And we see a whole lot of this on the Twitch chats.
(On a side note, I wonder how many people from TL go on the Twitch chat and keep the level low there...)

why does it matter? casting isnt for everyone.
if theyre good they will rise, otherwise there's no need to promote mediocre (female, but also includes males if you think im being sexist) casters as anything else other than just mediocre casters. i'd rather ld cast than some random female talk on the mic. i'd also rather knowledgeable female casters cast over having to listen to tobi wan slurp na'vi, but we cant have everything we ask for.

Standards set by community leaders are just as important.

if I am not misinformed, in about half an hour a "DeutschCast" will start (german cast, where you are not allowed to say anything in english, and if you do, there will be punishment. It is a fun event rarely done by Mori09 of the mystarcraft.de community and actually really hard, as not only the german language is influenced heavily by english, also for the game a ton of english vocabulary is used, from unit names over stuff like "cheese" and "snowballing" up to "expand", "natural", "game" and many more. This time the cast is only organized by Mori09, the ones doing the cast will be two austrians (yeah, the same country and accent as Monchi), one caster is "cRY" and the other one "Becci" from "Beccis Playground". She is a girl, and about to cast some SC2 action (and she is not the first woman to cast/cohost a cast alongside Mori). It is not like there would be no girl at all casting, but those who do cast do so for fun and only when they feel like, not for a year every evening out of their basement hoping to eventually get picked up by a big event.

The community is so rude and unnecessary mean to most of the male casters out there, a female caster would get bad mouthed so much she'd need a psychiatrist to fix her up.
Every time, god forbid, I open a twitch chat all I see is whining and bitching about the casters or the production. The first woman caster would need to have an incredibly strong personality to be able to cope with that. I don't think it's impossible but just way harder for them.

The only female english speaking SC2 caster I've seen is Kelly Milkies doing some code A back in the day, and she was terrible, so I can't see any new potential female casters being any worse.

For the first time I can remember the casting duo was one man and one woman. Now I'm not a super-fan, I don't watch that many streams, but I do watch a good 10 or so hours of SC each week and I catch most of the premier level events. So the fact that I haven't noticed a single female caster seems odd and concerning to me, I certainly couldn't name one even if I have heard them (unlike the 10 or so male casters I could name with ease, the big names in eSports). Now we know that gaming tends to be male dominated, other than Scarlett and Maddelisk there is almost no-one without a Y chromosome at big tournaments*, but figures also show that there aren't that many more male gamers than women overall**. So put simply, where are the women in eSports, and where are the female casters more specifically? I want to be very clear, I'm not accusing anyone or everyone of latent sexism. I honestly don't know the answer to this. I've seen a few comments about this issue in other threads recently, so I thought I'd make a topic and see if people had any ideas. Where are the female casters, and (if necessary) how would we go about finding more of them? (*Technically this is incorrect, as I've just discovered. Apologies if my choice of shorthand was inappropriate.) (**see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Women_and_video_games#Female_gamers_as_a_demographic)
well we had one as the first GSL casters ... people hated it and throw stones at her until they fire her its just you want a caster with a decent skill level, and to be honest if you have this skill level as women at the moment, you can just go play and make money with that xD
ps: also the koreans always has a female caster in their casting triple so ... its only that there are not much known english casters xD

Please. Seriously?
Of course we need more women in casting. The only time I've heard a female cast was Maddelisk in aftonbladets Esports-SM, which isn't a huge mainstream tournament. (It was in Swedish, only one match and only on their website.) She did a good job.
The worst part is how women only get to ask silly questions to the winners of various games, wait for their answer and then, well, back to the real hosts (that are male and wear three times as much clothing)!
But, of course it won't happen since "the scene" is a misogynistic craphole.

If there's a female that's knowledgeable or entertaining and wants to cast, I am all for it. If there's not then too bad, but saying that we "need females" is silly.

The average gamer is still to young and immature, and for that reason the sexism is too strong in the scene. Just look at the twitch chat whenever Rachel Seltzer makes an appearance. That makes it hard for females to find a place beside the stereotypical "sexy hostess" one. It's not impossible though, for instance there's this dutch female dota2 caster who's pretty well-known, can't remember her name though. Waiting for that to happen in sc2.

because that is totally not what a host is about? Right. I think people like sjokz from league of legends or SeltzerPlease as a host, and I think they are doing a heck of a job. Maybe they do not have all the experience and quirkiness of a Redeye, but they still make for a good viewer experience. And that is not because of what they look like and how much skin they present (which is their own choice by the way), but because they enjoy doing it and are good at it.

In the UK there are several female commentators in sports - they are excellent.
Unfortunately in SC2 there aren't any excellent female casters yet, the men are better... so far.
There has generally been a bit of resentment toward female casters in SC2 so far because some feel they got the job on looks rather than all the elements that make a caster good.
Not being sexist here, just being fair.

Well, there's one right now in fact, casting sea masters cup on twitch at basetradetv lol @zepphsc2 is the female caster I believe

"Of course"? Why? If women want to get involved, great. If they don't, ok.
The reason there are no female casters is pretty simple: women make up a tiny proportion of eSports. Let's not pretend otherwise.

You do perhaps believe women can't run business companies and that countries in africa are poor because they haven't tried enough? This kind of reasoning disgusts me.
