You'd also have McD-Subban pairing, which right about now would have people making comparisons to Pronger-Macinnis, Stevens-Neids, and other all time pairings... or at the very least theyd be talking about how it was on par with seabrook-Keith and Suter-Weber when they were together.
Ive got a huge hockey boner thinking of those two playing together. They're both fast enough to go up ice and get back to bail out their partner, and damn smart players too. PK might be my favorite non ranger haha
Crazy skill, confident but humble enough to laugh at himself when Ovechkin caught him and at other things, plays physical and chippy, and annoys the fuck out of everyone else and will drop the mitts on occasion. It is pretty much everything I like in a hockey player haha
Gally is pretty damn good though.
and yeah, what do they have, less than $5m to get Kadri and Franson? Both of them could easily make claims for $3m/yr. They desperately need a trade.
It is kinda baffling how a team that has a bunch of obvious holes can spend their way to the cap like that and still be a low seed team at best if all things go right
pavelski just got paid 6 million per year for 5. Ah, nothing like throwing that kind of money at a 3rd liner to show you are serious at building a team.
His stats are that of a very good second liner..??? Even with Thornton and Cotoure up the middle, he led SJ centers in toi the past two years, and was 2nd before that. He led his team's forwards in TOI the previous season. Top pker, plays a lot of pp. He's hardly a third and would probably be #1 on most teams. That's pretty fair
It's a sport where Tom Sestito can score two goals in one game on the same forehand-backhand deke through the five-hole. Most of all, it's a strange sport. Also I feel like making players skate on the slippery ice and bat at rubber discs with a stick sort of levels the playing field. To answer your query, it certainly seems that their is little deviation in $ amount. Top players would get paid more if there were fewer roster spots to fill. That's why in the NBA you can make $8M being a role player.

ya he is the kesler of the sharks, (so less diving, but crappier shot too) but no, if he was a 'number 1' on most teams his scoring would still be in the mid 50s. SJ rotated him up to 1st center a couple times when they are in a slump and he is not that effective against first pairing d men. 6 million means he and cotour are the number 1 and 2 guys going forward, which isnt the worst but isnt the best either.
I wish they did it for the East since I don't really follow the West ;; Kings were way more dominant than they actually were though so I can't help but think the stats aren't the endall :p

Eh, I think that's a fair going rate for a guy who is either gonna be a great 2nd liner or low end 1st line c on any team in the league. Dudes like him and Kesler are necessary in your top 6, and when you can do everything well, you gonna get paid
Food for thought: a post without comment from another forum where a dude compiled the sv% and min played for each of these dudes over the past three seasons.
" Let's talk real numbers. Obviously team performance impacts save %, and it's not entirely down to the goalie. That being said, these are the stats in the past 3 seasons among guys who may be in that "elite" conversation. I included both regular and playoff save % and minutes in this. I use the arbitrary number of .920 for my "elite" cutoff. I tried to stick to guys who have actually been starters / are going to be starters. I did a lot of guys, but not everyone.
Elite Stats w/ 10,000+ minutes Lundqvist - .9268 with 12,689 minutes (6029) Rinne - .9229 with 11,759 minutes (5798) Quick - .9220 with 12,541 minutes (5668)
Elite Stats w/ less than 10,000 minutes Thomas - .9312 with 8706 minutes (so fucking good those 2 seasons) (4526) Luongo - .9200 with 9633 minutes (so close) (4727) Rask - .9284 with 6453 minutes (3228) Schneider - .9302 (!) with 5401 minutes (2752) Anderson - .9241 with 6965 minutes (3743)
Good Stats (.915sv% cutoff, minutes don't matter) Price - .9171 with 11093 minutes (5444) Howard - .9166 with 11248 minutes (5396) Niemi - .9170 with 12076 minutes (5813) Miller - .9158 with 10077 minutes (5264) Crawford - .9158 with 10651 minutes (4872) Ward - .9179 with 9235 minutes (4995) Hiller - .9153 with 8862 minutes (4407) Dubnyk - .9167 with 6815 minutes (3615) Halak - .9157 with 6958 minutes (3061) Let-it-in - .9174 with 8602 minutes (4832) Reimer - .9158 with 6253 minutes (3375)
 Bryzgalov - .9098 with 10649 minutes (5211) Fleury - .9115 with 10481 minutes (4861) Pavelec - .9084 with 9710 minutes (I wouldn't have guessed Pavs was this bad) (4992) Elliott - .9104 with 7343 minutes (3385) ... Marty Brodeur - .9065 with 9736 minutes. Time to hang them up Marty, Jesus Christ. (4068)
Officer Bob and Backstrom just missed the .915 cut but weren't lol territory. "
Certainly interesting to look at! Shots faced would have been a nice thing to toss in there as well. Howard, if you take away his oldest season in this comparison, jumps into elite territory and I think he's gonna prove that after this season. He's taken away the sting of losing Lidstrom, at least as far as letting the puck go in the net
Yay! East numbers are out. Initial thought, oh god the leafs are going to burn. Second thought, so last year's NJ finals appearance wasn't that much of a fluke?
Yea, it's bad enough now that in a few years Leafs fans may have to remember the 2013 playoffs as a "run."
Flyers put out the first video of a series called "Flight Plan." It's a step in the right direction, because Flyers official media in both print and online is very boring, this is a great step. The episode details a conversation before the draft about where the scouting staff placed several players on their board, including the eventual draftee Samuel Morin. They leave out anything of substance on the players (so other teams don't know their thoughts I guess), but show how they come to a decision on something like this. Monahan drops from 6 to 11 on their board in this episode, while Morin is ahead of Nurse and Ristolainen.
im a big fan of both morin and horvat, would have been nice to see one of them drop to 13-14(drop is actually a strong word, thats where they were predicted to go). MTL would have definitely made a move for either one T.T
both van and philly got future studs :[... sigh #jelly
Morin definitely has that top pairing potential, but he is just so incredibly raw. It should be pointed out that he was 17 when drafted, but still. It was something they needed to do though, swing for the fences on a dman. They also lucked out in getting Hagg in the 2nd round, he has top 4 potential and a fairly high floor already.
