Trump's kids are probably telling him the family brand might not survive 8 more years of controversy. Would this cause Trump to shift towards policies that would generate less media controversy? And/or policies that don't damage his image abroad?
Trump’s three oldest children — Donald Jr., Ivanka and Eric — and Kushner have been frustrated by the impression of chaos inside the White House and feel that their father has not always been served well by his senior staff, according to people with knowledge of their sentiments. The Trump heirs are interested in any changes that might help resuscitate the presidency and preserve the family’s name at a time when they are trying to expand the Trump Organization’s portfolio of hotels.
“The fundamental assessment is that if they want to win the White House in 2020, they’re not going to do it the way they did in 2016, because the family brand would not sustain the collateral damage,” said one well-connected Republican operative, speaking on the condition of anonymity to discuss the president’s family. “It would be so protectionist, nationalist and backward-looking that they’d only be able to build in Oklahoma City or the Ozarks.”

Obama claimed some form of executive privilege to withhold the names of anyone who went to the WH as he wished-- he was within his right to do so (and the Courts said as much). Instead Trump is just scrapping it all together, not even attempting to maintain the appearance of transparency. Why? Fun times. That's what I'm asking as well. Why is he scrapping it? Sure, some things and people might not have to be disclosed. I can understand that. But at the same time, if it's minor dignitaries or whatever, release it. Is there someone they don't want us to know about visiting? Or are they, and rightfully so, trying to minimize the sensational media and keep controversy to a minimum? It's almost a given that someone will say something and make a big stink about who goes and comes.

Fuck his tax returns. It's not like he's hiding what he's doing very well. He's obviously enriching himself personally using the office of the President, has questionable debts and associations, etc.
It's not a matter of those who believe it to be true and those who need more evidence, it's those who give a shit and those who don't. Marching for his taxes is just stupid.

Agreed. Nobody who actually cares about the content of Trump's tax returns thinks the tax returns are neutral. Seems unlikely that they feature anything actually illegal, only immoral, but I doubt his base really considers tax dodging immoral anyway.

Yeah, the taxes issue is just the same crap democrats tried the entire election. The sad, fucked up reality is that no one cares.

While tax returns might be the official line of the protest but if you asked the protestors I think you would find a wealth of other issues.

There's poison water in Flint, veterans on the street, millions of people living without their constitutional rights, millions more without healthcare, oh and China baiting us into an unwinnable war between the US and some amorphous entity in the east, but yeah the "resistance" and Democrats want to talk Russia hackers and Trumps Taxes.
I'm supposed to chalk it up to ineptitude, but I'm sincerely doubting it. Seems more like Democrats got wise to how sweet Republicans had it just throwing crap from the sidelines with no intention or capacity to govern responsibly. I mean Democrats get to feed their Corporate, MIC, and PIC contributors and blame it all on Republicans, except for whatever goes well, in which case that only happened because of Democrats.

Yeah the Seattle one is also having a BLM protest at the same time. You talk to the protesters you'll find a wealth of issues alright.
Protests are going to vary significantly both city to city and at the individual level. Marching for his taxes is nonetheless stupid.

Or the Dems are focussing on Trump because they have literally 0 power at the moment and the only way to get anywhere on any topic at all is by getting rid of the Trump and the tea-party and maybe getting some more sane Republicans in charge.
No one is going to care about what the Dems were protesting about today when the mid-terms come around. People don't seem to have an attention span of more then 24 hours. (if even that)
But you know, whatever suits your narrative.

I'm certainly positive towards protesting against Trump, and I guess tax returns isn't a terrible banner to unite under in the sense that while a lot of people just don't care, there are also 0 people arguing that not releasing taxes is the right thing to do. But that's kinda just another example of democrats choosing an issue that 'at least won't offend people' rather than one they genuinely care about.

This narrative of "they are powerless so let's do stupid things" is the narrative that is so terribly bad I can't believe anyone is still openly pushing it.
The situation is that Democrats focusing on Trump is a terrible strategy and it the reason "they have literally 0 power at the moment ". Sticking with it thinking it will get them ahead is absurd.

Party officials that do it are a different story.

Not how I meant it at least, I do think all anti-Trump protests are good. And I understand that simply getting together and protesting can provide them with some degree of like, catharsis or whatever, which invigorates further anti-trump efforts which is super important. So in that sense, I'm totally supportive of this. But are there any people who think both a) Trump isn't trying to hide anything immoral through not releasing his taxes and b) if it was revealed that he did something immoral, they'd stop supporting him? Alternatively, are there anyone who thinks 'if only Trump would release his taxes and show that he was legit, I'd support him then.'?
Then again, the simplicity of this case might just be why it's a good choice as grounds for protest.

More like, we need a real resistance and this isn't it. Also a wasted opportunity to draw attention to something that matters both politically and to peoples lives unlike Trumps taxes which no one would be surprised by, save maybe some people shocked at what's legal in the tax code.
