It's not the media, it's Trump. To claim otherwise is dishonest. Well he will get in history book as a warning : this is what happens when a whole party plays the demagogy card and disregards facts and reality for a whole decade. The GOP has been playing with fire for way, way, way too long. The question is not whether or not Trump will be elected (he won't) or damage for a long time the GOP (he already has), but if Republican leaders are gonna learn anything from that utter fiasco. Are you the one we call to get naked pictures of Hillary ?

I was "for" Brexit, I'm not for Trump at all. Still it's really interesting that the entire occident is basically in the same situation : a degenerescence of the public debate and politics (with retarded candidates everywhere and a lack of debates), a dissenssion between what the mass media/the elites think and a big part of the population, the rise of new figures with rather odd positions, etc.

I would argue the GOP did not have a choice. The democratic party, as an idea, was significantly better poised to stay relevant in a society that is advancing rapidly, faster than ever before.
I think it's really important to take a look at the social conservatism that was acceptable 50 years ago and compare it to today. It feels like forever right now, but think about what the world was even like 20 years ago, before the internet created an extremely connected English-speaking world.
Social conservatism is plain and simply on its way out. The democratic party was ready and waiting for this and it is just making things easier at this point. With college enrollment rates skyrocketing and the impact of the internet, the GOP had no choice but to double down on crazy. The majority of the country is, by nature, gravitating away from the idea of Christianity being an important part of American politics.

There were approximately a thousand civil servants running the whole of India which was already one of the most populous nations on earth and they were all extremely educated and dedicated career administrators. Obviously it wasn't perfect but given one administrator per 350,000 people it was remarkably efficient and effective.

The great thing of the internet is that contrarily to people i talk with in paris, there are much less of those.
It's not my role on this forum to tell you what to do and how to behave, but don't expect people to take you seriously if you go around with such a vain approach.
Anyway. Back on topic.

I imagine they are skeptical of that. By trying to be a shitty version of democrats, they just end up losing the religious base, get horrible turnout and only ending up winning the right of center folks.

As for Trump being a dangerous lunatic, ye, I do think he is.
I've contributed substantially since day one. If your input is to mix ad hominem with sexist gravellous jokes, I am not interested.
So again, I posted about Trump being a result of the GOP praying on people's fear for years. Do you have sometging to contribute, for or against, or is your only answer is to talk about naked pictures because that's the only thing a woman running for office inspires you?

Whitedog, your posts do have this tone of dethatched pleasure at watching people struggle to deal with their nation’s populist movements. As with the Brexit, the close we get to the vote, the more personal this becomes for people. I have said it before, but we have close friends that are terrified of Trump. Their children are being told by other students that Trump will deport them. So if you bring the snark, don’t be shocked when people fire back.

I mean, that's one of the truly extraordinary things in this race; that the guy managed to go so far with such amateurism and such a bunch of complete morons surrounding him.
That being said, you have to remember that eight years ago, Palin was on a presidential ticket, which is quite extraordinary too if you consider who she is.
Again, I am hoping that this election will be a vaccine fot the GOP and that they will seriously, seriously get their shit together.
And I believe they will because it's increasingly clear that they can't win an election with this kind of people. Palin was a self sabotage and such is the entirety of Trump's teams and strategies.

She's decently pretty, doesn't look like a white female, and apparently has links to the Tea Party. I don't think Trump's team looked much beyond that, especially considering she was hired at the very beginning of his campaign.

The Republican party tried to move toward the center on immigration reform. The base revolted.
If you can come up with a way for the Republican party to move toward the center without the base revolting and primarying everyone with Tea Party candidates I'm sure they'd love to hear it.
