On Good Morning America Wednesday, ABC’s Jon Karl reported that senior officials in the GOP are now actively strategizing and having conversations about the process to replace Donald Trump atop the party’s ticket should he drop out.
This, after another disastrous day on the campaign trail for the real estate titan turned politician, who recently said that he would not necessarily be endorsing members of his own party in their upcoming elections.
“Senior officials at the party are actively exploring what would happen if Trump dropped out and replaced him on the ballot,” Karl told GMA’s George Stephanopoulos.
He continued, “The answer… is they can’t force him out; he would have to go out voluntarily. And it would have to be the 167 members of the RNC through a complicated process to pick a new candidate. And it would have to happen by early September.”
The situation is truly an unprecedented one. While party officials and Republican establishment have long hoped for the “presidential pivot” of sorts from Trump, it has become increasingly clear that no such change in tone is happening. He sarcastically said of House Speaker Paul Ryan‘s upcoming reelection bid he’s, “not quite there yet” to officially endorse. He further said of Arizona Senator and former party nominee John McCain, “I’ve always felt that [McCain] should have done a much better job for the vets.”
Karl added Wednesday, “He is so unpredictable right now, they are no unable to control his message… they clearly think it’s a possibility.”

He doesn’t’ seem to be having much fun and if we believe the rumors about his staff, they are ready to jump ship. We are still in the first week and he can barely keep on message. They haven’t’ even started campaigning. He has 1/10th the staff of Clinton.
They are right to question if he si going to make it.
Quoting unnamed sources, with basically zero context, is now news? Yeah, this thread has gone to shit.
The right wing never does that. Clearly.
Anyway.
So the source : a four star general. Really shit source clearly, especially when talking about, you know, military issues. If it had been hackers hired by the Kremlin, maybe but that... I expected better.
And for the context : what context do you want? If it was Japan or Lebanon he was thinking of nuking?
If you don't understand why it is a bit of a problem that your champion needs to ask three times why the US can't use his nuclear weapons, be patriotic and never vote again.

I think they'd basically be conceding the presidency if they did that, but the fear is likely that having Trump at the top is going to wreck the downballet

Hayden was not the one who came with the 'Why cant we use nukes' question. One of the 2 reporters did
The reason this has any traction at all is because everyone, including XDaunt, realizes this is a statement Trump could actually make.

It's one of the anchors that makes that claim. I think it's pointless to discuss what Trump may or may not have said to an anonymous source when he's given us enough filmed material for a liftetime of laughter.

Again, the source isn't a 4 star general. The general just happened to be on the show. He's not a source, he's sitting there on a camera.
The source is an unnamed person quoted second hand by the host of the show. Hayden didn't say Trump said anything about nukes. All Hayden said on nukes is that once you give the order to fire them off it's pretty much a done deal.
The source is somebody that Joe never names, so it's gotta be taken with a grain of salt. There's a large IF there.
Hayden himself is actually 100000000000000000000% inconsequential to that clip.

I know Trump is not saint, but you have to remember crooked Hillary is the most corrupt person in history and also a worshiper of Baal.
Damn, republican rhetoric is actually not that hard to master. I might change my position in this thread, it's definitely less tiring from that side.

The idea that Trump makes those jabs at Ryan and McCain out of petty revenge, at such an important time...and people actually want this guy to be president? He is a petulant child with no understanding of the issues.
It's not the media, it's Trump. To claim otherwise is dishonest.
A man who bragged about how unified the Republicans were and then two weeks blows that myth out of the water. He is a thin skinned baby and that strongly dislikes other babies.

I feel like he'd suspend all trade to China or some shit like that as some sort of bargaining chip.

Well he will get in history book as a warning : this is what happens when a whole party plays the demagogy card and disregards facts and reality for a whole decade.
The GOP has been playing with fire for way, way, way too long.
The question is not whether or not Trump will be elected (he won't) or damage for a long time the GOP (he already has), but if Republican leaders are gonna learn anything from that utter fiasco.
