On NPR today there was a story about a stray cat in japan who was appointed station master of a rural trainstation. I would rather put a stray cat in charge of US foreign policy than hillary clinton
I'm afraid you're in for a disappointing election season my friend. No candidate is bulletproof.
Bernie Sanders is, my friend. Bernie Sanders is.
You guys realize that Sanders is going to be a one term president, right? He's like the second coming of fucking SOLON

Bobby Jindal is such an interesting character - the guy was appointed to a state cabinet position at the age of 24, and was the president of the Louisiana State University System at 28. That's insane.
I know his pedigree (as a New Orleanian), and that's precisely why its so sad that his administration has been a complete disaster. He's such a smart guy, yet he's lived up to almost none of his potential. He could have been the most influential politician from Louisiana since Huey P Long (who could have been president if only he hadn't been assassinated). He pawned it all away for cheap political points, and now he'll never be more than the Indian governor of a shithole state.
I've always wondered if politicians really believed what they are saying. Some hide it poorly (Mitt comes to mind), but others really make you wonder. Some of them held illustrious careers prior to politics, but then suddenly they enter politics and former colleagues are shocked by how radical they are.
One example is Ben Carson - phenomenal doctor and a huge leader in the medical field, but many including his former co-worker are very surprised by his political views.

LOL. How about this. If Sanders loses the general election, I have to write an essay on why America is the best country ever. If he wins, you have to write a book report on Capital, Vol 1

oh fine, that would actually be useful. I've been meaning to read the federalist papers anyway. it's a deal
When I assign writing assignments to my students, I don't assign page length requirements. that's for drones. Your essay should be of an appropriate length to adequately address the topic.
edit: actually, you know what, fuck it. Maybe I will just read the federalist papers and write an essay explaining why they support bernie sanders for president. shouldn't be too hard
I wish I could show you this speech Sanders gave tonight in Madison, make you watch it, and then have you look me in the eye and tell me you truly believe that this man is not going to win by 60 percent or more in 2016

No they wouldn't - because they would just spout counter rhetoric that may or may not be true. But they'll state their counter-point confidently and with conviction, and the average American voter won't know who to believe.
The average American voter does not go out to research each and every talking point for truthfulness. More often than not, they'll believe what they want to hear. And for many of them, believe that Sanders is socialist, which is close to communist, which is un-American.

Admittedly ignorance is not an easy thing to beat, that's why it's going to take the grassroots movement to get people out there and explain to them how full of rhetoric and empty on substance his opposition is. Though I think you're being really gracious Rubio who has never really done what you said under any sort of pressure.
Walker maybe, but he won't get far if he can't sort out Wisconsin first. Going to look pretty bad if Walker can't get a crowd bigger than Bernie did in his own state.

What little Hillary has said has been distancing herself from Bill? Other than the fact that Democratic presidents have done better on the economy before and after the last republican one.
WASHINGTON/NEW YORK, July 1 (Reuters) - The U.S. Department of Justice said on Wednesday it is investigating whether U.S. airlines worked together illegally to keep airfares high by signaling plans to limit flights.
The Justice Department wrote to major U.S. air carriers demanding that they detail decisions to limit the number of seats they offer, and what they've said about those plans to investors, securities analysts and the public.
Airlines contacted have been asked to provide "available seat miles on a regional and system wide basis" back to January 2010 and a raft of other data.
The top four U.S. carriers American Airlines Group Inc , Delta Air Lines Inc , United Continental Holdings Inc and Southwest Airlines Co control some 80 percent of the domestic air travel market.
The four confirmed receipt of the regulator's letter and said they are cooperating fully with the investigation. News of the probe sent the Dow Jones U.S. airlines index down 2 percent.

True, but that was a long drawn out primary - not a decisive win. The big worry for Sanders is fundraising and building the campaign ground game - these were things that Obama did especially well in 2008. If the primary drags out, Hillary's advantages in fundraising, campaign ground-game, and connections with local party leaders will be difficult to beat (she raised something like $45M compared to Sander's $8M). Granted money isn't everything, but there's a reason why people are worried about billionaires and corporations injecting billions into politics - it's important.
Since we're TL, I'll make this analogy: In 2008 Obama had a worker lead over Hillary, so he was mining more and had a better economy (fundraising). In 2016, Hillary is on 4 mining bases, while Sanders is on 1 mining base. Now I've seen games where players with far fewer workers and bases have won, but generally the longer the game drags out, it favors the player with more mining bases.

Actually, I'd say that the longer the primary goes, the better chance that Sanders has. The biggest problem for him is that people don't know him, whereas Hillary is a household name. The longer the primary goes, Sanders get more opportunities to make himself a publicly known figure.
And really, the only thing that Clinton has over Sanders is her name and the fact that everyone already knows her. Sanders would crush Clinton on the actual issues, and Clinton has so much shady baggage that she would be pretty bad candidate to pick.
Marco Rubio and Scott Walker are more electable than Bernie
Walker isn't even remotely electable. All anyone has to do is say, "Hey, look at those liberals in your neighboring state that have done literally everything better than you have!" and his campaign will sink. The man has left Wisconsin a wreck.

Southwest is a bro. I was a complete idiot and booked a ticket from New Orleans to Atlanta when I meant to go the other way. Found out at the airport, went to the ticket counter and rerouted me through Tampa free of charge. Also, 2 free checked bags.
United sucks ass. Flew to Taiwan (that leg went okay). Coming back, we got delayed on the tarmac in San Fran for 3 hours, ironically after a 4 hour layover. Missed my connection in Houston, waited at ticket counter for 5 hours to try and get on a flight. Ended up staying at a really shitty hotel overnight with 14 bucks worth of meal tickets for 2 days.
On Bernie: he's a nice guy, probably even smart and passionate. That's not going to help him beat Hillary. Even in the crazy hypothetical world where he becomes President Sanders, can you picture him shoving anything through Congress? He could get the most ridiculous mandate, and Congress still wouldn't budge. He's just as hopey and changey as Obama was on the campaign trail, except no one has really called him out on it.
