I'm a diamond Zerg player and I have been recently trying to develop an early pool build that will work EFFECTIVELY against Terran.
Of course, the reason that early pools arent used against terran players are because of the wall off. When the Terran doesn't wall off or gets a late rax for some reason, its practically a GG.
Overall, how effective are early pools against terran as opposed to toss or zerg?

I don't think it would work on any map but steppes.

Unfortunately, a terran going for anything except a low ground 14CC will have a wall up before your lings arrive, and even 14CC on big maps will get the wall up. On maps with shorter rush distances, or against a guy you KNOW is going for a CC-first build (like a friend or something), it might work. Some people try to drone scout super early and use the drone to block the wall from happenning, with very limited effectiveness. Typically, an early pool won't work against terran.
What's far more popular is the roach or baneling allins off of 2 hatcheries (but few drones) that punish quick thirds from terran.

You have a number of options to do early damage - and they have become rather popular on ladder and competitive play with outside rax, greedier scouting and cc first and is definitively something to use and master.
Here is a couple of options.
4 Drone pull (Catz used it famously vs marineking, but threw the game after he did considerable damage) I think he droned normally just that he sent 4 drones when he hit 9 (You can easily fiddle around with the exact timings ingame)
''Basically macro at home while you harass as much as possible with 4 drones, if you get the free scv building rax and pull more than 5 scv´s, it has already profited. ''
Nesteas 9 pool - Check the tl strategy forum for it, it is much better than 6 pool to defeat outside rax, proxy 2 rax and cc first.
''He pulls every drone except 1-3, basically a free win against everything that puts rax outside your wall. Execute it like all other early pool builds by sending a drone in advance to block ramp building. If kill cc first or outside rax, just bring home drones''
*6 pool seems humorous bad at doing damage, I tried it for fun against Mouz´marinehero and even tough he went cc first it was a surprisingly close battle.*
6 pool will get there before supply depo if it goes unscouted.
However you do really need to send an early drone with 7-9 pool.
You also have violets light pressure: Basically drone to 10 and take that 10th drone for scouting, it´s very early but can harass cc first with blocking and basically drone harass a lot.

Oh yeah against proxy attacks, low-grounded rax, or low-grounded CCs, etc-- anything where the terran's wall can't go up and his units are scattered-- a fast pool is excellent. It's not really possible to scout this sort of build and retroactively react with a 6 pool though.

the person who 6pooled to masters did it by getting 5drones to the enemy terran base before his wall can go up. make 6lings and send them there and terran has no wall, fight with 5drones+6lings, while 2drones are at the base getting 80 minerals a minute so 3 lings a minute reinforcements
you do this by scouting right 3drones right after dropping the pool (on 4player map) then when you have 120 minerals send all drones except 2 and when pool pops make 6lings
forgot to add, 5drones enemy base, 6lings, 2drones home is 10food. after making the 6lings you can extractor trick out additional lings over 10food it costs 75 minerals for 10-11food lings and 100 minerals for 11>12food lings
