Is this really imbalance or just poor play?
The Protoss literally sat back, defend, defend and starved me out. There was nothing I could do, drops were shut down easily by cannons hence I had no choice but to engage head on.

First I want to point you that the protoss knew all the time what you where doing for the entire game because of the observers while you knew 0 zero, nothing and he countered your army composition correctly. Big, adices: place a Sensor tower over your army rally point and a sensor tower on every base. It looks like a big investment but it's not because you float a lot of gas anyway and you will counter his scouting by a great margin. You had a whole lot of medivacs why not send a medivac every 2-3 minutes to fly all over the map to spot hidden bases, because as you see on the replay he had 2 bases of which you didn't know anything and a drop there would have cutted great his production. In your army of vikings you should add 2-3 ravens for their point defense drone to defend against the stalkers every battle. Macro wise you where fine in my opinion. But seeing his templar and colossus army I would have switched to more marauders and more ghosts and I don't understand today trend of not using siege tanks against protoss. | ||

On May 08 2012 18:43 Espy wrote: Is this really imbalance or just poor play? . first of all, rephrase this terrible question on the game you were never ahead economically. any small econ advantage you might have gotten with your faster natural was canceled out by his hidden 3rd base on numerous occasions, after killing off a small number of units you try to press some advantage you had by continuously stimming your standing army into the orange/red with 0 energy medivacs floating over-head. of course those are going to get cleaned out by reinforcements, and of course you are going to lose any lead you might have had from winning the preceding engagement for instance: units thrown away in such decision making errors: 16:30 22 marines 10 marauders 3 medivacs 27:30 14 marines 10 marauders 1 medivac (8 marines 4 marauders 2 medivacs should have been killed as well, but escaped with low hp) in general, very little attempt to deny observer scouts in mid game. scans were just not utilized correctly. specifically, you did not need to scan the natural 3 times just to see if you could drop the main. you shouldn't assume you can drop a 2 base protoss, and to use those scans for that purpose only hurts you. take those 3 scans, make 1 of them a mule, and use one in a way you ACTUALLY could stand to benefit from by killing the obs following your 1st main army for entire minutes, and when you actually need to use it, such as when you are pushing the 3rd at 16:00-- you CANNOT be blindsided by those templars. you had the money to, but never invested in more OC's. you had 3 of them in the mid-late game, when you should have 5+ (in base or not). you should always have energy for scans before and through every engagement (especially if you have ghost cloak). you had banked plenty of resources at max when you could have done this and imagine how much more extra money you'd have to do this without having to replace the units lose in those decision making errors you had the ability and the resources to start ghosts sooner, but you did not as time goes on, your opponent spends more money and attention to feed backs/observers/storms, you invest less and less money and attention to scanning for obs/sniping/emp. so no, this game was not decided by balance or even slight micro errors. | ||
