That's a terrible analogy :/ Yelling "nigger" out to 5000 random people you see in public is WAAAAAAAY different from saying "nigger" on a stream to 5k people who have chosen to listen to you and are actively on your stream (and most likely know already how you speak).
if you are a public figure and you just don't shout 'Nigger' because you are basically promoting the use of racial slurs.
no you're not.... if destiny goes and says "hey everyone, lets call people nigger all the time!" then he is promoting racial slurs. I would like to think that in 2012 people are smart enough to figure out that if someone says something they dont have to say it as well

The community is getting retarded. Destiny was incredibly harmless. He's just a stream star who has fun playing his games, and people gravitated towards that. To clean up his act and become a nice guy would completely separate him from what got him to "community icon" status in the first place.

care to provide some examples of public figures using it and not having a huge shistorm brew immediately afterwards?

In the end some people need to understand that even it might look like u are alone when u are streaming or playing over the internet there are allot of people that watch u if u are a professional gamer. Is that destiny decided to offensively express him while he knows 2k people are watching him and that’s stating something. You might be comfortable when u are at home streaming thinking u are alone but u are not. He doesn’t seem to be able to acknowledge that fact and starts blaming it on other stuff. Internet is a media to be able to express your opinions but it’s also a media that allows u to be in the public from anywhere in the world. So as Quantic Destiny I believe he did wrong expressing himself like that on his streams and games but as an individual he is entitled to do whatever he wants.
So the questions u should ask yourself if u believe a professional athlete or gamer should be able to offensively using downgrading words to their opponent when the represent sponsors and teams?. The community seem to be clear that they don’t and I fully agree. Do I believe Destiny is the only one that should be hold accountable for this . My answer is No!.
I think EG should clean up there act on Idra. I think every team should make it clear to their players that they are not allowed to shout out words like fag, nigger ect when they are repesennting there team in sc2 games. They can do whatever they want on their free time or when they are alone. If destiny likes to rage on ladder his welcome doing it on a smurf account but I don’t se the point being like that when his representing his team.
your idea of "would you shout nigger in a mall" is so damn stupid it hurts my head. To watch destiny stream you have to go to TL, you have to click destinys player, wait for the site to load, sit threw a add and THEN you get to watch him. IT WAS YOUR DAMN CHOICE TO BE THERE! nobody forced you, nobody put a gun to your head, there is nothing you could possibly doing on that stream then watching destiny. At a mall your shopping, at a subway you're going some place, you are on it not to be entertained, not to listen to others, not to watch others, but for yourself. This is NOT the same with a stream, you are there ONLY to be entertained.... and if you get offended, and you are no longer entertained you can LEAVE! there are so many other streamers that you dont have to watch this one, you dont have to sit there and be offended. YOU DONT HAVE TO BE A DAMN WHITE KNIGHT AND TRY TO BRING SOMEONE DOWN. holy crap man, just like TV, if you dont like it, change the channel and stop the bitching.
This is exactly why he should be by himself and not on a team.

let me tell you how the real world works. See the title of this thread. thank you.
It's a shame that Destiny couldn't simply take responsibility and apologize like an adult. Everyone makes mistakes, but defending his use of hate speech was basically just asking to be released from Quantic. Whatever, now they have an excellent team.

What is every rapper ever? Seriously? You have never heard a rapper say the word nigger in public?
While we're at it, lets boycott every actor who uses a racial slur in TV shows and movies.
And before you say "oh it was part of their character they aren't racist." Isn't that essentially the same situation for Destiny? He kind of had no relevance in the competitive scene because he really wasn't all that good. So, what's the best way to become popular and make money off the masses? Create a character that everyone loves to hate.
He did these things on his stream for entertainment. If you didn't like said entertainment, simply don't watch it. If enough people found him offensive and simply just tuned out, he would truly have no relevance in the scene and eventually be removed from quantic and feature list due to just wasting space and being an offensive prick.
And for those who claim to be victims of his vulgarity in-game. I believe there are censors on this game for a reason...
If Destiny had done this at an event, this would be fine. But the fact is that he was laddering on his own time (just like orb) and it should be treated as such. For the people screaming about becoming mainstream (and thus SC becoming a legitimate job), do you understand that you can work all day, go home, use all the hate speech you want (so long as it ain't hurting nobody) and go to work the next day and nothing will happen? And no, it doesn't matter if he was streaming at the time, his stream has a mature/offensive language warning. It's as if we are attaching a moniter to people's entire lives that beeps if they do one thing wrong. As far as I'm concerned, Destiny was just another ladder player like one of us. If the person he played against was offended, he could have reported him to Blizzard and been done with it like everyone else as opposed to starting a shitstorm which has now hurt a man's livlihood.

People need to calm the fuck down.
No one is trying to silence destiny. Its just that if he's going to be sporting sponsor logos and whatnot, he's gonna need to be more professional. He wasn't going to be more professional, which is necessary when sporting Razer and Quantic logos, so they parted ways. What exactly is the issue? If you're upset that someone isn't permitted to throw around racial slurs while sporting their company's logo, I think you should try to find other places where this is accepted. With Starcraft 2 making its way into news papers, television news (DH on Swedish TV, Sundance interviews on local news stations), its only natural that voices like destiny's are going to be pushed aside. No one is trying to make him stop what he's doing, its just that the scene is outgrowing his immaturity. All the teenage kids who enjoy his stream will still watch, but there is nothing wrong with the mature, future thinking portion of the community to shun him and make sure he doesn't burden us with his attention grabbing, immature shenanigans.
Wish people in general in this community would just calm the fuck down over drama and enjoy the game. If you don't like what a player does on HIS stream, don't watch it, and don't give that player your eyes for him to get revenue, pretty simple ey.

To be fair, he's streaming it. The argument isn't really whether or not we should invade their personal life, because Destiny is choosing to reveal it to us. But I still don't think it's a big deal either way. You simply don't have to watch the stream, and as you said, it already gives a blatant disclaimer that offensive language is used.

do you know what racial slurs are? show me a white rapper saying N word. I believe you.
This group of people would make the 17th century residents of Salem blush. I'm so sick of the community being occupied with shit like this. There are far more profitable and rewarding things to put our effort into.

Stupid arguement. Saying something when you are ACTING is acting. It is generally accepted that pretending on TV is pretending... but when you are a butthurt gamer being supported by major corporations and meaning what you say to a fellow competitor... not the same. Go back to lurking on the forums dude.
It's not about esports at all, it's about his representation to those who support him. Not just his sponsors, his team. Vulgarism is not entertainment. He used that side of him way wrong and to the extreme.
Let me ask this... Destiny had a very good friendship with a team called Eleven Gaming back in the day, which Warden was a part of. What causes a grown man to be so two faced?

The problem with what you're saying is that if you worked all day, and used all the hate speech you want, and someone working with you heard that, most people you worked with would change their opinion of you because it's not socially acceptable to use hate speech.
