Btw if he keeps playing LoL, he should rightfully be defeatured since he can't hit a good elo with 200+ games.

But to the people who are defending him, you are responsible for your own actions and it these actions are never justified. You should never use racist or homophobic language towards someone. Never. It's not acceptable. You can cuss on your personal stream yeah. You can do other things, but certain language should never be used. You don't call someone retarded. You don't call someone a faggot or gay or cock-sucker or anything homophobic like that. You don't call people gook, chink, spic, nigger, etc. Those things are never acceptable. You get frustrated? Cuss! Cuss all you want. But the other words are not acceptable. Nor will they ever be. That being said, I wish Destiny the best of luck in the future, even more so if he stops using those slurs completely.

Why would I tell friends to get involved in a community that tolerates and encourages the use of racist/bigotted language? I would rather the community shrink and mature than grow and stay in its current form. Of course, if it could grow and mature together, that would be ideal, but I have my doubts. I don't wish anyone ill and I'm not out to ruin anyone's career and I'd love to never see another incident like this again, but if these incidents help the community to grow up and mature, then I think it is ultimately a good thing. 'Growing E-sports' isn't just about numbers - that is very short sighted. It's about making a sustainable industry and community and not just tagging onto something that will rise only to crash and burn at a later time.

Anyway I am kinda neutral about all of this, sure he acts like a prick and makes it profession out of it but this part caught me some interest: There were a few options on the table when we were discussing things, but all of the options left Quantic in a really rough position. It is kinda sad that table didn't have any option similar to: "I'll stop acting like ego-trip driven crusader for "free speech" using ethnic, racist and homophobic slurs; I will clean my act while still keeping my interesting schtick and I will start practicing much more and focus my playtime to actually achieve something on SC2 pro scene." ![]() It shows to me Destiny's personality better then anything he says on his stream. I also wonder how he will continue supporting himself (and his family?!) with 1000-1500 viewers after all of this*? *I don't follow Destiny's stream that much, I sometimes plug-in and in last couple of days I've seen him streaming only LoL with around 1300 viewers, same number he has at this moment. I only guess viewer count will drop even more when he plays SC2 without TeamLiquid.

You've got to remember, though, that insults are still insults, no matter how socially acceptable they are or will become. At work or in public, it would obviously be rude of me to insult others. Hell, it would be rude of me to use vulgar langauge without insulting others. But when I'm at my friends house or when I'm out drinking or when I hurt myself or lose in video games, I can be loud and I curse. I have a bunch of friends of other ethnic origin. Two of which do not want anyone, not even their friends, to say "nigger." The rest I know are fine with it, with the exception of one guy who's fine with his friends saying it, and his friends only. That shows how different people are and how some people have grown to accept the word more than others. This could be due to accepting that people are different and some simply don't like people of other ethnic origin, or it could be due to them simply being down to earth.

I don't care about streaming hours, I'm telling you you're wrong because there's a link on Incontrols twitter not 2 days ago talking about streaming on EU, along with 2 other tweets about streaming.

- racism in general - the SC2 community We should realize both Destiny and Orb did not get what they got because of racism and not because it was the community will. They got sniped by any few people who've had sufficient reasons for personal vendetta to email sponsors - for whatever reason they could find that would work. We should rather discuss how unsafe the public SC2 figures are from such snipes, because absolutely everybody has some dirty laundry to get sniped for.

First, all the pillars of SotG have explained why we shouldn't email SPONSORS when we get mad at players or teams (I think it was the episode about Grubby's endorsement ending?). I think their point is a good one, and even if I disagreed (which I don't) I'm not making a living off computer games, so I'm not really in a position to have an informed or relevant opinion to the contrary. Don't email sponsors when a player does or says something you don't like. Not because it "hurts esports" (it does), but because you gain nothing real from creating tension between a team and its sponsors. All you get is a power trip from knowing you helped get a player kicked off a team. Just support another team more--if only there was a team that made a conscious effort to only recruit cool, nice, thoughtful people--and that team made an awesome community website that basically became one of two places to get SC2 info on the net... Second, as Destiny himself said, he is the least likely person to be hurt by these tactics. I don't feel bad for Destiny himself, because he BENEFITS FROM CONTROVERSY. The worst thing that could happen to Destiny would be for him to say something outrageously offensive, and....nothing happens. Third, Destiny's gain from associating with Quantic has declined. I am least confident about this part, as it is based on my outdated personal observations: when ROOT died, I think it really hurt Destiny. He had finally found a team with a solid group of teammates that were his friends, and wanted to help him achieve his goal--to be a top-tier player. While he has had times of intense focus (Korea trip, etc.) Destiny has also made no bones about being committed to both LoL and SC2. To me this evolution means that he is focusing on being a personality and a one-man-show rather than a top-level pro-gamer. Good for him. If you don't like it, do what I do--don't watch him. I don't like Rush Limbaugh. I don't like Howard Stern. But you cannot deny that they have talent or intelligence or business-sense. And I bet you don't go figure out who sponsors the TV shows, movies and radio hosts you don't like and try to take them down. Fourth, Quantic's use for Destiny has declined. When Destiny joined, Quantic's roster was: Josh "Agh" Bland Colbey "RockEr" Robinson Nick "DarkCell" Murray Joe "Shuffle" Moloney Michael "theognis" McClelland John "Baz" Bednis Phil "PhiliBiRD" Baird Plus inka and sase So, in terms of big-time, big-name, big-draw players, they had Sase. Destiny gave them added recognition, which any team needs to get off the ground. Quantic sent Destiny to Korea to train with Startale, and, if I recall, it wasn't that long after that Destiny took a long break from SC2 and was streaming only LoL for a while (my chronology could be off there). Since gaining Destiny, Quantic has acquired Naniwa, Sase has shown himself to be amazingly good, and they got a Korean terran. Quantic has big name players fully committed to winning, and have a player that made GSL Round of 8. People know who they are, and know they have players in contention for the major tournaments. For an unknown team, all publicity is good publicity, but once you've made a name, it does not make business sense to keep a "publicity player" who brings negative attention. It's just business, and it's not our business. Destiny leaving Quantic was going to happen eventually anyway (Liquipedia shows a lot of turnover at Quantic in general). You people with your pitchforks and emails to sponsors are impotent to make any meaningful, much less positive, change. Bad publicity makes Destiny more money--he truly loves the haters--it's not just a defiant "fuck you" statement. Warden, you make some cool guides (I'm assuming it's the same guy), but had you not posted, I would not have heard the word "gook" in, like, six months. You have just as much right to complain about Destiny's treatment of you as he does to be a dick (and if someone is harassing you, you are certainly justified in exposing it/complaining)--but also consider being the bigger man and just ignoring assholes on the internet. You will probably be happier (though, having never gotten someone fired, I can't remark as to how satisfying it is). "Support content you like, ignore that which you don't."--Jesus Christ, Son of God, if he had the internet.

Esports won't grow because of a 'professional image,' it's all about the money. Heck, just look at Idra, although to be fair he has cleaned up his act a fair bit.
