While I don't think he should've had to part ways with Quantic I do believe he should've been dealt with somehow (Quantic suspending him from the team for a bit or s/t similar would've been good and also making sure he doesn't use the language on stream etc). Either way I don't think this was necessary. But to the people who are defending him, you are responsible for your own actions and it these actions are never justified. You should never use racist or homophobic language towards someone. Never. It's not acceptable. You can cuss on your personal stream yeah. You can do other things, but certain language should never be used. You don't call someone retarded. You don't call someone a faggot or gay or cock-sucker or anything homophobic like that. You don't call people gook, chink, spic, nigger, etc. Those things are never acceptable. You get frustrated? Cuss! Cuss all you want. But the other words are not acceptable. Nor will they ever be. That being said, I wish Destiny the best of luck in the future, even more so if he stops using those slurs completely. No, I can say what I want, and trust me, I have family members who know better than anyone here what "real" racism is. If a person like me who have family members whose close ones died in the holocaust, and who lost a friend in a terrorist attack, can be okay with what Stephano and Hasu told each other, you can stop being a worthless PC weakling, grow a spine, and realize that what Destiny says on his stream, he can say on his stream.

I would argue it's for the best even if it was a few unnamed people. I don't want a community for a game that I love being represented by people who are so willfully ignorant of the meaning of their own language.

On one hand i’m kind of disappointed, as i thought this forum had supposedly a more mature audience, after skimming this thread tough, its obvious that the same angst teens found on /b/ and reddit are here too. On the other hand my confidence in the SC2 community as a whole has improved. Now i personally haven’t sent anything, as i could not be bothered to, however i talked to some small SC2 communities that did so, and the word was unanimous, this event was just the last straw that tipped people over (even some that were his fans). It’s completely ridiculous that some people in this community are fighting to make it thrive while we have a /b/tard redditor, running around spewing memes calling everyone niggers and gooks and mods faggots just because he has an army of edgy drones that like to circlejerk to him. He lacks even an ounce of professionalism. Imagine if a professional tennis player started hurling racial across the net during a match, refused to apologize and even went as far as to attempt to JUSTIFY it. His career would be OVER, no do overs. eSports will never manage to gain legitimacy while the community as a whole seems to support this kind of bullshit. Teams should know they can't stand by and allow one of their members (who represent them) to do shit like this and get away with it, and not have to require other people point it out to them. One would think that a grown man that quit his day job and has a kid would know better than to shit were he eats, but I guess he just can’t control "le" redditor in him. My hat off to the people that are actually concerned about the community and stay classy destinydrones

I've never met Orb or Destiny in my life - why would I dislike them. I even liked Orb even with a BM reputation until that thread came out. It wasn't so much the heinous act that did them in as much as the subsequent actions - Destiny playing around with racist and discriminatory language and Orb lying to his employer. If they had been apologetic I believe the community would be much more forgiving.

I'd like to see the people who emailed the sponsors actually admit to it in this thread, but I doubt they will. And it's telling that they aren't willing to admit it. How do you feel about doing damage to Quantic and it's other players before even giving Quantic a chance to respond? You're Swedish - do you consider yourself a fan of Naniwa? What if he's going to lose some benefits as a result of this? What if this has caused him and other Quantic players worry which hurts their practice mindset? Was there no other way to communicate your opinion to Quantic than to go straight to their sponsors? I think that deep down, the people who contacted the sponsors realize that it wasn't really to carry the banner of justice and do the right thing for esports. It was just to fulfill some cynical urge in them to be destructive and incite drama. And that's why I haven't seen a single person in this thread admit to it directly (though someone correct me if I've missed it). The bottom line is that you're doing more harm than good. We would be better off without you as a "fan". Now let's see if any of them will admit to it in response to this, or if they will just continue to hide in their little holes. I didn't e-mail Quantic and I am ashamed to say I didn't. In the future I will and if you want to I'll PM you everytime I do. I don't know why you think I or anyone else would be ashamed to say they e-mailed the sponsors?! You make it sound like it such an embarassing or shameful thing e-mailing sponsors saying they shouldn't support players saying "gook" or using other racial slurs! So far I have only e-mailed sponsors to praise them for supporting various tournament. I started doing that after InControl had a good blog/post about how important that is. So in the future I will be consistent and not only e-mail sponsors when I want to praise them but also to say they shouldn't support players that behave like Destiny. Racial slur is not ok. I don't give 2 cents about how cool you or anyone else think Destiny is. If he wants to be part of a professional team then it's time to act professional. Manner up or gtfo.

I'm perfectly fine with eSports not growing at all, I enjoy the competition of playing RTS and thats enough for me. If you kids want to play neighboorhood watch and go looking for trouble, have fun but your not going to get much out of it, ask Zimmerman how thats working out for him. If you're going to talk down to people, at least do it right ;\

No. Just because some people who have experienced said things (which doesn't matter anyway and hell I can go point to my own family for that as well, being Czechoslovakian in ancestry) are tolerant of it does NOT make it okay. Slurs are not justifiable. Never will be.

I'm saying that it isn't my ultimate concern. Some things are more important to me than my entertainment. However, from a growth perspective I also think that the community is very shortsighted if they are concerned with having immediate and large viewing numbers because that won't last. If what is attracting the audience is novelty and childish behaviour, then things will die off faster than they started as people go to the 'next cool thing'. If we want to grow Starcraft, then it has to be about more than how much money are we making at the moment and trying to make sure that what we are creating is something that is high-quality and lasting. So it is true that a degree of professionalism won't grow E-sports, but the lack of it may prevent growth.

I would probably get along with both people in real life very well. But I have had many other friends and acquaintances like that, where we get along, but I do NOT agree with their use of such inflammatory language casually. It makes you sound ignorant, and I don't want to be associated with ignorant people.

But the fact is you watch the stream because of the words and terms he says. Lol you really expect people to have nothing to say about members of their community using hateful language? Please.

its just reddit being reddit. the /r/starcraft community is the worst thing to ever happen to starcraft (and would of been the worst thing to ever happen to bw if it was around during its time). they're all a bunch awful fucking people who don't think about the impact and consequences that their little "boycott" will have on SC2 days, months or even years from now. /r/starcraft is made up of a bunch of pitchfork wielding, witch hunting, tight assed little cunts who believe their personal opinion is the only right answer to anything and if you dont share their collective opinion or share the same train of thought as them or act differently or without care or try to dismiss them and their presence or "power", they will do their best to ruin you. the collective narcissism that reddit posses is second to none as far as online communities go and its honestly fucking scary that these kids can quickly and efficiently influence million dollar companies who are genuinely interested in this scene within hours to the point where you can dismantle teams, ruin players, and ruin reputations all within 24 hours or less the BEST thing that could happen to the SC2 "esports" community would be for /r/starcraft to shut down and nothing like it to ever be recreated. the stupidity, arrogance and general stupidity spewed by that subreddit is something i dont think ive ever seen before and something i never want to see happen to any other community thats trying to grow simply because too much power lies within the hands of mouth-breathing idiots. yes i know ill probably get banned or something for posting that but its seriously fucking ridiculous that the reddit community keeps going after sponsors and players livelyhood simply because they dont agree with their message or opinions. seriously people, man the fuck up and stop acting like children who run to the teacher everytime another kid says something mean or something you dont like. I think something to add to the fact that Destiny was technically at work, was that it's a public forum. Ladder is a public forum, because you are conversing with many different people. Streaming for obvious reasons can be added to this. This puts it into the socially acceptable category, as well as the professionally acceptable category. And yes, I've never seen the value in insulting anyone. It's not fun, it doesn't help anyone, it actually makes me feel really bad about myself, and the few times I have insulted people, when I was younger, I've always apologised. I don't really understand why anyone would do it. Even if someone insults me, I usually don't feel the need to insult back. I just can't see it leading anywhere good. That being said I do enjoy good banter, or trash talking, but there's definitely a line to draw, and Destiny went well past it.
