Do you think Destiny actually hates Asians? If so, please explain why. If not, realize that there's a significant difference between the racists people rail against IRL (i.e. people who actively try to stop minorities from participating in some aspect of society) and people who use the word 'nigger' (i.e. about 99% of the english-speaking world). Destiny said something that would insult/hurt the other ethnic group he or she is speaking to. He deliberately went out of his way to insult a korean based on his race. Therefore that comment was a racist comment. Simple. So instead of using 'gook', Destiny used 'dumassfuck retard'. You'd be satisfied? No because that would be discriminatory based on a person's disability. Hey I can name at least 10 streamers who have used retard on their stream, wanna write to their sponsors with me too? I didn't write to any sponsors. I didn't even know about this until i saw this post and read up on it. But yeah you should tell those streams to stop using offensive language. Good man! No because I enjoy it, like many others. If people don't like watching streams with profanity you don't have to. Yeah that's why i don't! I watch stephano stream. Funny how stephano doesn't need profanity to draw in a ton of viewers. He can get viewers by being funny and with good skills and commentary. A real professional progamer. Destiny needs to learn a few things from stephano about managing the public. Really? yesterday stephano called hasuobs a nazi and asked him how many jews he killed last night. How easy people forget. Maybe we need sit at the back of the bus signs to remind people why the words have become so taboo. If destiny believes he is fighting for a cause then let him do it on the street rather than being an "armchair hero" for closet racists. Love to know how that goes when he confronts a man who got his father lynched.

My little butt is so hurt by this. This is the perfect exaple of how stupid this sounds. Lol indeed. Anyone who has used "retard" or "retarded "is as bad as Destiny for using gook. It's just as much an insult to the disabled as it is to Asians. Apparently slurs against handicapped people are much more acceptable than racial slurs. You hear Idra call the game retarded all the time. Why is that not a problem? Perhaps retard is more socially acceptable than gook. Even if, objectively, it's just as offensive. Go figure I suppose.
Either way this thread is done.

I take that to mean you emailed quantic's sponsors in this case? Shame on you. I'd like to see the people who emailed the sponsors actually admit to it in this thread, but I doubt they will. And it's telling that they aren't willing to admit it. How do you feel about doing damage to Quantic and it's other players before even giving Quantic a chance to respond? You're Swedish - do you consider yourself a fan of Naniwa? What if he's going to lose some benefits as a result of this? What if this has caused him and other Quantic players worry which hurts their practice mindset? Was there no other way to communicate your opinion to Quantic than to go straight to their sponsors? I think that deep down, the people who contacted the sponsors realize that it wasn't really to carry the banner of justice and do the right thing for esports. It was just to fulfill some cynical urge in them to be destructive and incite drama. And that's why I haven't seen a single person in this thread admit to it directly (though someone correct me if I've missed it). The bottom line is that you're doing more harm than good. We would be better off without you as a "fan". Now let's see if any of them will admit to it in response to this, or if they will just continue to hide in their little holes. i emailed razer. and i stand by it. personally, i think any racism in any form is absolutely disgusting, and im exactly the same in real life. if people i know act racist tell them not to, and if they keep doing it i stop any associations with them. if you are stupid enough to think that e sports can grow beyond what it is right now with behaviour like that your very stupid. and i dont feel bad about not giving quantic a chance to respond because if no one had made a fuss, they wouldn't have. it not the first time destiny has said thing that he wouldn't get away with in any other role, and they have continued to support him. if quantic had chosen destiny over razer they would have been silly, and deserved to fail as a team. and obviously, razer wouldn't have stopped supporting them unless they had no choice. so i dont feel bad about hypothetical situations that were very unlikely to happen. if you want the SC2 community to be consist solely of immature children and socially retarded adults who have no idea how the real world works, then indeed you would be better off without me as a fan, but since thats not what i want, its not something that im willing to give up basic principles to help. and im sure youll laugh at the basic principles bit, but to me, discrimination against anything that you cant help, be it race, sexual orientation, or just a problem you were born with is wrong and should be fought at every moment it rears its head. ive already stated why i think that destiny is actually a racist in the previous thread, and not, as many of his fanboys have said just using it as an expression of free speech, or in an attempt to help bring awareness to the problems, which is another laughable line that has been spouted several times. the bottom line is that while what i did may not have been good for destiny, its good for esports, and TL, to attempt to distance ourselves from things like this. if you want to have a SC2 scene where you can say things like that without getting in trouble, its called /vg/, and its fucking awful
So you're so moved by your disgust for "racists" that you e-mailed razer personally, but you feel that disparaging the mentally disabled is ok:
"the idea that men are inherently better at video games is retarded."
and you felt that the orb situation was silly:
"because people love starting threads? i think they feel important this whole thing is silly, orb shouldn't have said what he did, and people shouldn't have searched his VODs to get him sacked. im not even sure why anyone cares."
yet another "dropping to bronze to off race is retarded, you should off race and then drop."
So is your motivation really the offensive hate-speech, or more along the lines of this:
"destiny might be better than ill ever be, but in terms of professional 'players', hes pretty awful. i think it would be fair to say that hes the worst full time SC2 gamer in terms of talent. what destiny does have is a very loyal following, and its not something he built with indifference. i dont like him, or his stream, but i will say that he puts alot of effort into it, and he seems to realize that hes an entertainer who plays games, and also that its his job, so he better do it well if he wants to eat."
This is probably the most ironic of them all (from this very post):
"immature children and socially retarded adults" vs. 3 lines later "and im sure youll laugh at the basic principles bit, but to me, discrimination against anything that you cant help, be it race, sexual orientation, or just a problem you were born with is wrong and should be fought at every moment it rears its head."

If he did say that then that was wrong. Maybe you find it funny but a lot of germans and austrians don't find it funny. There is a law in Austria that means anybody who denies the holocaust will be jailed. A lot of germans are embarassed by their ancestor's deeds.

Hasu and Stephano are friends. They know each other professionally and socially. They engaged in banter based on their personal relationship. Stephano called Hasu a Nazi and asked how many Jews he had killed. Hasu made a response implying Stephano was an Arab terrorist. Both players were fine with this level of banter. They happily engaged in friendly chat after the match. Don't pretend that these situations are comparable. I thought it was obvious that people address people they are friends with differently to random strangers. Hasu or Stephano have not complained about the content of this chat. If they are comfortable with it, then there is no need for controversy.

It's just insane, literally, a perfect term is we are lynching people, without due process. Like, the community are a part of the freaking Salem Witch Trails. We are being judge, jury, executioner, and supreme asshole. We are not letting these events, process long enough. We are not letting objective questions, and none emotional responces govern things. We are being fucking crazy ass fiends, who just do whatever we want without any semblance of order or intelligence. We are running off emotions, and making all of us look like asses, to everybody, everywhere.
Get a grip Sc2 community, we are honestly pathetic. No, what's insane is the people who try to defend him. I literally cannot understand whatsoever how people try to defend Destiny when he uses racial slurs. I've seen countless people try to defend why he should be allowed to say it. There are very, very few industries that you can actually get people to defend you when you call someone a derogatory racial slur, and esports is apparently and unfortunately one of them.
What do you want us to do? He uses a racial slur on his stream that thousands of people are watching, a thread is made, he comes into the thread saying he would rather keep using those kinds of terms instead of issuing an apology and shows no interest in changing. No one is asking for Destiny to stop saying anything, no one is asking him to be a completely different person, however this whole situation is easily avoided, if people just stop using those words. That's it. It's really not that complicated. Don't call someone a racial slur, don't get this shit fest. Works 100% of the time. If you can't control your emotions enough to not call someone a racial slur then you have some real anger issues. Go ahead and call someone trash or bad or shit or garbage but when you bring their race, gender or ethnicity into it then you are crossing the line into a very personal attack, which makes you look like an immature punk.
The part of this community that is 'pathetic' are the people who come in here and tell people to just get over it, grow thicker skin or stop being sensitive. That's absurd. Maybe some people can get offended easily than others but telling them that they should just get over it when someone throws around language like that is just ignorant. That excuse doesn't hold up in the real world and if we're trying to make this look professional why should it hold up here? Just because you're on the internet doesn't mean you should get a free pass to act like a racist idiot.

You think Destiny is a racist? I guess you do. Maybe you should read something about racism first, or ask someone about it. You think telling this to sponsors will help anyone? No, it's just hurting everyone around. This discussion is a waste of time. Some of you are arguing about things you have no clue about. I don't know where all smart people are. Probably they're too smart to participate in this nonsense. I'm going to join them now.

It amuses me when people in this topic invoke the mythical "real world" to support the notion that this would only happen in the SC2 community.
Let me tell you about the real world. In the real world, we have these things called campaigns. Be they in politics, advertising, any number of fields, they represent a concerted effort to create an image backed by time, money, and effort. It takes far less than the explicit use of a racial slur to end careers and take millions of dollars out of offenders' pockets in the U.S., and we're still one of the most liberal countries on the planet regarding protected speech. In Canada and much of Europe, speech code violations over a period of as long as Destiny has been streaming can land you in prison.
Quantic is waging a campaign seeking funds, exposure, and new talent. They made a colossal error in judgment (relative to the above-listed goals) in signing Destiny in the first place. Now they're in damage control mode, and rightfully so. To the many people who seem to think "the real world" is more tolerant of these activities, please take it from someone who deals with this for a living. Destiny has been given far more leeway in this community than if he was representing any other large-scale organization. The fact that Quantic didn't act before sponsors had to be brought in just demonstrates that the powers that be in that team thought as most of the commenters here obviously do, that they could craft a consequence-free environment and still reap the benefits of mainstream exposure.
No matter how much you want it, you will never get both.
And for those who invoke free speech, Destiny has a right to say what he likes. People who are offended have the right to act accordingly. We are promised the right to be idiots, but not protection from our own idiocy.

Now let's see if any of them will admit to it in response to this, or if they will just continue to hide in their little holes. i emailed razer. and i stand by it. personally, i think any racism in any form is absolutely disgusting, and im exactly the same in real life. if people i know act racist tell them not to, and if they keep doing it i stop any associations with them. if you are stupid enough to think that e sports can grow beyond what it is right now with behaviour like that your very stupid. and i dont feel bad about not giving quantic a chance to respond because if no one had made a fuss, they wouldn't have. it not the first time destiny has said thing that he wouldn't get away with in any other role, and they have continued to support him. if quantic had chosen destiny over razer they would have been silly, and deserved to fail as a team. and obviously, razer wouldn't have stopped supporting them unless they had no choice. so i dont feel bad about hypothetical situations that were very unlikely to happen. if you want the SC2 community to be consist solely of immature children and socially retarded adults who have no idea how the real world works, then indeed you would be better off without me as a fan, but since thats not what i want, its not something that im willing to give up basic principles to help. and im sure youll laugh at the basic principles bit, but to me, discrimination against anything that you cant help, be it race, sexual orientation, or just a problem you were born with is wrong and should be fought at every moment it rears its head. ive already stated why i think that destiny is actually a racist in the previous thread, and not, as many of his fanboys have said just using it as an expression of free speech, or in an attempt to help bring awareness to the problems, which is another laughable line that has been spouted several times. the bottom line is that while what i did may not have been good for destiny, its good for esports, and TL, to attempt to distance ourselves from things like this. if you want to have a SC2 scene where you can say things like that without getting in trouble, its called /vg/, and its fucking awful You should absolutely feel ashamed for emailing Razer, and the fact that you don't means that you didn't read the OP. But it would be devastating to certain parts of Quantic if things continued down this road (and still might be, though there's not much that can be done at this point).
You didn't get Destiny fired. He and Quantic parted ways on their own. All you did was hurt a team that has done a great deal for esports. Because you reacted before you thought, you did more harm than good. If you seriously think he "parted ways cordially" with Quantic, you're obviously mistaken. The fact that this issue came about up to the point that he had to leave the team means that it was a Serious talk. i.e. Quantic said "Look, sort your act out... we're hurting because we're a professional organisation and your non-pc language isn't pleasing sponsors" That is 100% not the point of my post. I could say he was fired, or chased out with a baseball bat, and the point would be the same. The point is that your desired outcome (him being punished for his language) could have been achieved without contacting sponsors, and therefore without harming Quantic. a) I sincerely hope people will learn from this. You cannot expect to be repping a professional organisation and expect to get away with any behaviour you'd like. It's similar to wearing Jeans as a doctor - it's just unprofessional behaviour. If you're in a position in society which requires you to act in a certain mould, don't forget that. b) How would this have been resolved without harming Quantic in some way? Explain please - he was on their roster, he was using expletive language? Contacting sponsors I'd say is the good thing in the long term - now professional teams will enforce certain rules on their players. i.e. Teams (and players) will take this on board, and no such event will happen in the future. c) I think that Quantic have shown their professionalism. When sponsors contact them and they say "Yes, we had a rogue, but we cut ties even though he was popular within the community", I think this shows that the organisation has integrity. If I were working for razer, and I saw that this organisation I was sponsoring was condoning this behaviour, I would have cut ties altogether.
You're really missing the point here. I don't disagree that Destiny was wrong to do what he did. What was similarly wrong was the decision to contact the sponsors with it.
Your c) point is why I have a problem with the decision to contact the sponsors. Quantic could very well have lost their support from Razer, which would have harmed the entire team and esports in general. The same result could have been achieved by contacting Quantic. This would not have harmed Quantic because the sponsors would not have been brought into it. Every time you contact a sponsor with shit like it hurts every team they sponsor.
If you still don't understand, let me refer you to Incontrol's posts on the matter.
And then, really think about what the impact contacting sponsors before contacting the team has on esports.

Why aren't there threads up already? That was totally racist and shit. Just for the record, i thought it was fucking funny and i am german. If they are comfortable with it, then there is no need for controversy.
lol ? even if they are friends couldnt a jew be offended ? or a arab ? thats not excuse.. anyway all this offended crap is stupid f the esports police!

Not to mention the way you dealt with it is kind of a "backstabbing" action in community's eye well, if you think that destiny should use the word gook more, then i advise you to email razer and quantic stating that you think its no in common enough usage , and that you wont be supporting them unless its used at least once every time one of there players does anything in public. id also like to point out that im not 'imposing' 'my' ideology, im stating an opinion to a company, as a consumer, which is completely different. don't try to use ridiculously dramatic statements to back up a massively flawed argument. that's like saying 'by voting for X political party, your imposing your beliefs on others' and with regards to backstabbing, what the fuck are you talking about. if i was good friends with destiny, and hadn't made any comments on the matter, and then i went behind his back to get him kicked off the team, then i would be back stabbing. i guess you could accuse me of 'front stabbing', which would be massively inflating my individual role in this, but at least would make some sense In no way did I say I support Destiny should uses those words.
But what you did in essence was because you couldn't stand him using those words, couldn't argue with Destiny because you think there is no place for racist slur, and you just emailed to sponsors. And no, what you did was not similar to vote, because what you did got sponsors worried and then told the team off and the team had to do something about it.
The sponsors don't look at the context of how the words are used. How is it not imposing what you perceive to be correct and ideal
Backstabbing meant you emailed to sponsors right away instead of trying to challenge Destiny and change his usage. There is a difference between debate and "I will tell your dad" type of action.

This guy understands it, If you are defending Destiny and think we are pathetic cause we don't want racist, prejudice kids representing our community. Then so be it, we are pathetic as a community.......
