This is totally outrageous, If we want our community to grow we need to start thinking before talking/posting. We need to take special care on the selection of words we use when we want to insult/offend someone. I mean, we want them to feel bad but not too bad.

Here's a list of words we all should eliminate because some people's feelings might get hurt beyond our original intention of hurting them.

faggot - offensive to the gay community
nigger - offensive to the black community
gook - offensive to asians(?)
spic - offensive to hispanics
retarded - offensive to mentally challenged
rape - offensive to rape victims
snipe - offensive to war veterans
nuke - offensive to descendants of hiroshima survivors
grammar nazi - offensive to descendants of concentration camp survivors
murdered - offensive to people who've experienced death in family
cancer on the community - offensive to people who've suffered from cancer

Also, don't do drugs and eat vegetables, ok?

Always that joke argument.. Do you want to hear soccer players calling each other faggots in all of the post-match interviews? I don't think so.

Have you ever played soccer/sports? It happens all the time during the game.

Insulting someone while laddering is not like insulting someone in an interview.

Destiny saying bad words? Get out of town! It's his trademark. People don't tune in to see a top class zerg, they wanna see the dramas and that's what he provides. Just be happy you beat him and made him rage and move on

people like orb/destiny/randomtroll will always exsist so by your logic we should cut to the chase and kill esports/sc2 sooner rather than later?

Destiny doesn't have empathy because if he knew what the words meant to some people, he would stop using them. His opinions that either its "stupid" or "illogical" to have such negative feelings attached to racial words just means that he simply does not understand individuality.

"Ignorant to other people's feelings"? Maybe if I spammed him with messages after the game, or added him and told my stream to harass and stalk him. Maybe if I messaged him on Skype or sent him e-mails. Calling someone a nigger/faggot/gook/cheese/piece of shit/queer/mother fucker/step-mother fucker etc...at the end of a game before leaving? You honestly think that people who rage at the end of games lack empathy? You should be a psychiatrist!

If I knew what WHAT words meant to WHAT people? Lots of people find different words offensive. List of possible offensive words -

faggot - offensive to the gay community
nigger - offensive to the black community
gook - offensive to asians(?)
spic - offensive to hispanics
retarded - offensive to mentally challenged
rape - offensive to rape victims
snipe - offensive to war veterans
nuke - offensive to descendants of hiroshima survivors
grammar nazi - offensive to descendants of concentration camp survivors
murdered - offensive to people who've experienced death in family
cancer on the community - offensive to people who've suffered from cancer

Now, here's the fun part. Without sounding like a bigot, I want you to tell me which words I can and cannot say, and why certain groups of people are special enough to have certain words not said for them, and the others are unworthy of said "protected status". Good luck!

I love this at the end..."His opinions that either its "stupid" or "illogical" to have such negative feelings attached to racial words just means that he simply does not understand individuality."

Because nothing says individuality like taking offense to a simple word spoken out of context that at one point in time was used to insult a collective group of individuals.

Eh, I could be humble here, but nah, fuck that. I'm pretty damned good with people. Ask anyone who sees me at any MLG, I'll stop and sign anything or take a picture with anyone, regardless of the length of the line. People that you guys hold to much higher "friendly" standards, though, such as Day9, Huk, Nony, and others? They SPLIT the second they think a crowd is gathering and they do their best to stay away from any places where they could be mobbed.

So how do you judge whether someone is "good with people"? Is it based on the facade they put up when they know they're under the public eye? Or is it based on how they actually interact with other people?

Ah, my bad. I was unaware of the several hundred year old stream viewers I have. I'll try to cater to that audience more.

Seriously, though? You want me to cater to an audience of people that define themselves based on some insulting words that someone said about their ancestors hundreds of years ago? If we played that game, there are tons of other words we should cut out of our dictionary (for just black people, I can think of the word "boy", "negro", and "colored", and I'm sure there are many more for many other groups of people).

Maybe then he will learn his lesson that he should respect other cultures and other people if he wants to be respected himself: that respect is earned and not a right.

Ah, now here, I'm going to have to call you a brainless fucking piece of shit. I can't even believe you would have the audacity to fucking call me out on something like that. You have absolutely no fucking idea what I have or haven't experienced in my past. A lot of the immature and childish bullshit that you call "hardship" (OH NO SOMEONE SAID NIGGER, OH GOD HE SAID FAGGOT, OH NO HE MADE FUN OF MY PANTS) PALES in comparison to a lot of the shit I've had to deal with in my life. Maybe the difference in perspective is one of the reasons why I'm able to look past absolutely pointless bullshit like this and someone like you turns it into the focal point of a huge discussion. You want my child to get bullied in high school? Seriously, I would dedicate all 130 lbs of my tiny frame into the beating the shit out of you if I ever saw you in person wishing that on my son. If you think the only way to learn respect about someone else is to suffer, then you're sadly misguided, and incredibly stupid.

It's also completely blowing the situation out of proportion to contact the sponsors. There are much more reasonable ways to communicate your opinion to Quantic, and you haven't even given them sufficient time to respond. If you consider yourself a fan of this community, you shouldn't do it. Otherwise, I hope you realize that the community would be much better off without you.

Don't be naive. It's not like Destiny acting this way is new. He's been doing it long before Quantic ever picked him up. They know about it, and they don't care.

i'm also disappointed that destiny, for all his "people skills", hasn't learned any PR from the orb situation. people seem to think every situation is one where they as a unique, proud individual is being threatened, when even a cookiecutter apology can go a long way. if not to the community, then to warden. at least nobody will be writing your sponsors, you know.

why is this community so stupid sometimes?

Sorry, "PR"? You want to talk about respect? How about treating a community of people like humans, and not a mindless hive-blob of blithering idiots waiting for you to appease them with hollow, empty, meaningless phrases that everyone finds kosher?

You may not like what I have to say, but I will go down in flames screaming nigger/gook/spick/faggot/queer before I ever release a pointless cookie-cutter apology. I'm honestly disgusted and disappointed that you, as a human being, find meaning in these bullshit PR moves that other people make.

I'm tired of public figures that stand for nothing, and instead merely try to act as a mirror, reflecting back onto other people whatever it is they want to see.

I'm disgusted and disappointed in you as a human being that you have no empathy for the people that your racial and hateful slurs affect.

How do you not know that just because you think its okay doesn't mean everyone else does? This isn't even about religion or free speech. Its about using words that you know hurt people just because you think they shouldn't hurt people. News to you, just because you think people should act a certain way doesn't mean they do.

I'm going to stop responding to thoughtless post like this until you respond to my questions earlier.

Tell me which words a person should/shouldn't be allowed to say, and then tell me why some groups of people are protected while others aren't.

You must really think that people give a shit about you responding to my posts or that I personally give a shit. You are offensive and ignorant and you don't deserve getting paid to do what you do. That's really all there is to it.

I could care less if you stopped responding to my posts. Please do. In fact, please just stop posting in general. The less bullshit that you have to spew the better. Please take your stream offline and just stop streaming too.

Dear Razer,

I have purchased many Razer products over the last several years, and am glad that some of my money has been spent on the Starcraft 2 community. However, I am disgusted by the behaviour of one of the teams you sponsor, Quantic Gaming.

Steven "Destiny" Bonnell, a member of Quantic Gaming, is a popular entertainer known for his angry outbursts. He frequently hurls racist abuse on his stream, an example of which can be found at http://i.imgur.com/iaSWu.jpg

This behaviour is unacceptable. Bonnell was dropped from his previous team, Complexity Gaming, for this behaviour, and Quantic Gaming signed him up with full knowledge of this.

I will not purchase any more products from Razer, and will encourage my friends to not purchase any products from Razer, until Razer ceases sponsorship of Steven Bonnell, either through his dropping by Quantic Gaming, or a cessation of sponsorship for Quantic Gaming as a whole.

haha, now THAT is pathetic, or better yet, where can i file you for slander?
that's what the next person with your attitude should do.

person B did X and I put effort into hurting him.

*clap*

btw, why again is it "unacceptable" ?
ohhh because some people think it's offensive. one day, it will be "unacceptable" to call someone "cool".
it's rather funny actually, because it makes no sense.
anyone who feels offended by those kind of words has every right to feel this way,
but at the same time, they should reflect and be ashamed.

??

What Destiny did was legally acceptable, but ethically can have some implications that bother some people, myself included. Asian myself, I do take offense to what was said.

That's not slander at all. I am strongly considering sending a message to Razor Gaming as well stating my discontent with one of their partners.

When Destiny was on Korean server someone told him that the most insulting thing a Korean could take is to be called "dog people". Destiny then used that phrase whole time because he realized that his usual bm words on NA ladder didn't have much effect on Korean players.

As a community, we have two options: One is to treat Starcraft as a random video game. The second is to make it as professional as possible and be proud of it. I actually don't play any other game anymore or follow any other community except Starcraft because I hoped that this community is different to others that I'd involved before moving into Starcraft.

I'm not disappointed in Destiny at all. Just disappointed in Quantic; because they're the one that makes decision whether to allow this to happen. I've always been a fan of Quantic and hope the don't fall down the path of a "personality and bm" team.

IMO freedom of speech protects and should protect the stupid things Destiny says--from government interference. Twitch or Quantic or anyone else with their hands on Destiny's purse strings are not obligated to respect Destiny's freedom of speech.

My problem is not what he says as much as it is the positive feedback he gets for it. It shows immaturity in the community.

I used to think Destiny's humor and intelligence at least evened out his stupid angry comments, but I haven't been too impressed with either lately. First he got really serious about being legitimately good at SC2, so he stopped being as analytical and funny about his games--but then he started streaming LoL about half the time. When he joined Root, it seemed like he was committed to becoming a top-tier player. Now, the last couple of times I have checked on his stream, he was playing SC2, but talking about how stupid the game is...

To me he is self-destructive and not in a really entertaining and compelling way. I just don't watch him anymore. But YMMV.

It seems that some people think its just natural to spout racist slurs when they lose a game. I just don't get that. I'd also wager that a big majority of people don't do that either.

How are racist terms your goto words when you're pissed off? I can understand being nasty after a rotten game. It happens. I just don't understand how that results in talking like a Klan member.

Seems to me if racist crap is your natural, goto method for trying to insult someone, then you've probably had some practice at it. You probably do it a lot. And if you think that isn't relevant to your character and how you view other human beings, then you're kidding yourself.

Well Destiny enjoys to argue the concept of context when using words such as these. You could probably equate a 1v1 sc2 game to basically any time of sporting event that is 1v1 except by adding the computer barrier (yay for being anonymous). Online, Destiny cannot be touched and therefore can rant all that he wants and pretend that words have no impact unless you let them.

This is an argument that takes all responsibility off of the sender of the insult and places all blame on the recipient for letting it get to them. A scary precedent if you ask myself that attempts to justify his actions. I would be 100% convinced in the real life situation that Destiny's skinny frame would not hold up long against someone who did not take the insults lightly.

I hate how nasty some people can get online, i've accepted it, tryed to change my own ways in reducing my BM. Most importantly, I don't want to see complete apathy to internet BM. I get some pretty hardcore BM every few games which I shrug off but I will admit that after playing WC3, dota, HoN and now SC2 that BM is tiring and i'm sure people didn't appreciate my BM in the past. (usually one-liners but still myself being a prick).

For a start, those emailing the sponsors should take no blame. The logic that they're causing E-sports harm by informing the sponsors about the actions of someone under their banner is ass-backwards.

One day someone with influence may decide to take it beyond the scope of these forums, and then it's done for. A journalist with an influential blog on a site like Forbes might decide to one day make an entry about one of these situations which keep cropping up, because these threads certainly are popular. Would we go and post in the comments asking him to take it down because it might hurt the scene, perhaps? No, that would be retarded. Keeping it quiet and sweeping it under the rug to "protect E-sports" is not an option. Prevention is the only sensible option.

This is a warning to not take an insular view on this type of situation - I've seen posts in places not connected to SC2 who will email sponsors at the drop of a hat and have done in the past. The argument that it's just the internets will not wash with the general public, they'll see what's going on here and kill your credibility before giving you the time of day. You'll be tarred with the same brush which was used on the fighting game community recently.

You should be pointing your fingers at Destiny and other high profile players for constantly giving them reasons to do it. Destiny doesn't say it, people have no reason to send mail. You should also point fingers at the teams choosing these types of players on purpose - I would be far more suprised to see a member of Team Liquid taking part in these sort of antics that I would members of other teams because I know TL use their discretion.

Amazing, amazing post. I don't understand why people always feel the need to ignore bad things that happen. They need to be addressed and responded to accordingly.

Simply ignoring this because "IT'S DESTINY GUYS XDDDDD" is stupid. If Quantic doesn't want to do anything, which is extremely clear considering they picked him up for his abrasive personaility and since they have done nothing in the past to correct his behavior, then going to the sponsors is a must.

Sick account that was created to post in this thread bro. I like how your name is parkjimo, why is that? Want to make a name that sounds asian so you have more of a right to be offended? GTFO

Guess what, this hasn't changed anyone's opinion of Destiny. His stream is a history of controversial behavior and his success is largely due to his uncensored conduct. His supporters don't interpret his manner as bigoted and obscene, regardless of how you see it. Anyone supporting his sponsors because of him is still doing it. The people contacting the sponsors are just the haters trying to capitalize on an opportunity to do him damage. They have no regard for the consequences to the SC2 scene in general, so there's no point telling them to stop. I would hope that sponsors would be reasonable enough to understand this anyways. So keep acting like this is such a big deal. It's not.

How to email Razer:

1. Go to http://www.razersupport.com/index.php?_m=tickets&_a=submit

2. Click "Public Relations - USA"

3. Type in a message like the following:

I will not purchase any more products from Razer, and will encourage my friends to not purchase any products from Razer, until Razer ceases sponsorship of Steven Bonnell, either through his dropping by Quantic Gaming, or a cessation of sponsorship for Quantic Gaming as a whole.

does anyone else think that this is unreasonable or this guy has not read a single thing in this thread

It IS unreasonable. Honestly, the only reason people (like the butthurt 12 year old above) are so quick to email the sponsors is because we made such a big deal about NOT emailing the sponsors when the Orb situation erupted. Now people think "Ha! If this makes them angry, then good!" Not realizing how imprudent such a move is.

Destiny is very intelligent and can defend his behavior with reason and logic, taking a philosophical stance on the meaning WE put into words. Whether it's right or wrong, emotional attacks against him are simply going to fail here. If you don't like Destiny, do as he suggested ... don't watch his stream. But don't fucking punish the rest of the community because you think you are being a civil rights hero via TL.

Philosophical stances dont matter hell racism and bigitory dont even matter really. Esports is growing and once you get past a small little grass roots thing throwing around words like like nigger and faggot just dont fly. Period. Full stop. Context dont matter, what you mean dont matter matter, what it all means in the greater geopolitical sense of the united states of america dont matter. Sponsors wont attach themselves to people like that. No matter who it is. Even Rush Limbaugh that guy says some controversial and offensive things but even he cant come out and say fucking faggots or damn niggers. Hey end of the day esports stays small things like this wont matter if you want it to grow this has to stop because the whole thing is held up by the almighty dollar not whos right or wrong and people will go after the sponsors and they will not tolerate this shit.
