No. Do not do this. It hurts the scene rather than makes the situation better. Take your emails to Quantic instead.

lol how does it hurt the scene if idiots dont get sponsor anymore?

How about they stop sponsoring new people since they view the risks of negative backlash being to high for it to be worth it?

Yes, so let's hide every bad quality of the community from them. That couldn't possibly backfire.

Or we handle it ourselves without involving the sponsors by contacting teams and organizations. Where`s the backfire in doing that?

harsh, probably not true, but we've all raged on ladder and used offensive words.

calm down and don't make these useless threads. here's hoping it gets closed.

but again, are you a professional gamer. Professional gamers can't get away with the same kind of stuff an ordinary gamer can get away with. DO you have responsibilities to your Team, Players and Sponsors?

I'm certainly not a pro gamer, but I do feel badly anytime I rage and use inappropriate language, as I should. I don't rage too often, but even one time is too many.

If I acted that way in my IRL profession (ESPECIALLY with what I do), I would be out of a job in rather short order.

Destiny got to where he is now not based on good play but heavily with this same attitude displayed in the pic. I can't imagine Quantic didn't know this would continue on his private stream after he joined, so I can't see them getting upset over incidents like this. Destiny conducts himself very well with public events or interactions on Quantics behalf. However I do believe that they know if they were to take action against him there would be a backlash from his fans. Like it or not, he draws a huge crowd to any stream he's on and Quantic knows that.

Also when you make a post like this, expect 90% of the responses to be from his fan boys redirecting anger at the OP. So I don't really understand why you'd post here and not contact Quantic if you had a legitimate concern with his behavior or attitude.
Just chill man.

Let him have his hateful opinions, they do not hurt you, being "offended" is not a reason to ban opinions. You are basically just saying that your opinion is better than his, which is much more ignorant in my opinion.

The opinion that someone is inferior by virtue of their race or sexual orientation is not an opinion we need to respect. And yes, if you're using race or sexual orientation as an insult that by definition means you think they are inferior...otherwise those words wouldn't be insults.

You don't have to respect it, but I/we do not have to respect your opinion that his opinion shouldn't be respected. Your opinion is not better/worth more than his, sorry

How many of you have actually taken this issue up with Quantic before today. Everyone knows that this is how Destiny acts, and I would be incredibly surprised if this thread taught anyone anything they didn't already know. Yet why is it that just now, in the past 2 hours, there is a huge rally against Destiny, against Quantic, and (to a lesser extent) TL.

I strongly, strongly doubt that many if any of you have sought an explanation from QxG prior to this thread being opened. Yet here we are, with so many people up in arms to get him defeatured, kicked off his team, or pressure Quantic's sponsors into forcing them into action. If this stuff is so offensive to you, then why are you only acting now. You should've been on Quantic's case months ago.

I don't support Destiny in this case, but these are just my 2 cents.

This is how "campaigns" work. People acting solely feel their action is insignificant, but when someone organizes a little bit people feel more power being with a group and act. This is true about a lot of movements in general.

Sounds incredibly sheep/bandwagony if you ask me. If you truly had a problem with Destiny before this, you would/should have already acted on it.

Human beings are very bandwagony. This can be seen throughout human history with much more important moral issues than this. You can say they should have acted previously, but in my book the key is they eventually do act. It is way less important when.

I doubt he's going to be removed because he said "don't make any n***** mistakes" to his teammates during the mono battles. Quantic doesn't care. So because 1 guy makes a post everyone all of a sudden is offended by destiny?

interesting, so destiny is like the lone ranger. If he wants to go it alone, all the best to Destiny. Just don't expect Quantic
or any other team wanting to sign him to a long term deal.

Well, was it streamed or not? I think it makes a difference - a very small one, mind you - it would be nice to get the facts straight.

Was it being streamed in this case? I have no idea.

But like I said, he used the exact same words in a LoL game to the other team and that game WAS being streamed with a little over 4k people watching.

I find the amount of people who say things like "grow up", "welcome to the real world", "just some kid on the internet" pretty funny. I don't understand how that has somehow become the soundbyte of the people who defend Destiny on this. Seems to me like it makes more sense the other way around. I've spent some amount of time in the "real world", and I can guarantee you that that shit doesn't fly there. For whatever reason, Destiny is a public person when it comes to the SC2 community, at least when he's streaming, and particularly when he is a featured streamer on a site like Team Liquid.

Grow up? Right back at you.

The OP was making a comment on the game he played in which Destiny used racial slurs. This community saddens me with its lack of understanding concerning racial slurs. Are you really all that stupid that you don't understand that there is heavy context behind racial slurs? Do you think it is any accident that when a professional in any field makes a racial slur its the end of their career quite often?

Its this sort of immaturity that makes e-sports less respectable. Good job on holding us back folks.

Exactly, anyone who actually does this is being insanely selfish in letting their views damage the scene which the rest of us love so much. It's lucky that I am not a TL mod because I would seriously not hesitate to remove anyone from the community who knowingly brings harm to it.

A much less "severe" situation in the "real world", imo. That's what needs to happen.

Actual players like Kobe Bryant have used terms also seen in the OP to very little repercussion.

Oh, really?

How's 100k dollars?

http://nymag.com/daily/intel/2011/04/kobe_bryant_fined_for_homophob.html

Compare that 100k to how much money that guy gets paid and already has been paid. He can probably wipe his ass with 1,000 dollar bills and not even notice a change in his bank account.

This is an irrelevant strawman. A 100k fine is a hefty penalty, even for a wealthy person, and is the league showing how serious the incident was. There were a lot of human and civil rights groups who were furious over the incident.

for Kobe $100K fine is about the equivalent of a $30 parking ticket for an average income earner.
+1 though for using cool sounding phrases like "irrelevent strawman" though..wp!

The point of the post is that there was a public outcry which motivated the league to action in levying a fine on the hefty side of their scale. The base salary of the player in question is irrelevant to whether or not the league took action that was more heavy-handed than fines for other, similar actions in the past. It was used to establish that this is clearly something that runs afoul of the contemporary public and accrues punishment, whether or not you are successful.

Do you think if Kobe decried the public criticism and kept openly using the word "fag" and other racial slurs in competitive play, things would be going so well for him right now? Consider this was a 100k fine for a slight slip up in the heat of the moment. Now extrapolate that to a consistent and intentional application of racial slurs and other commonly accepted offensive terms.

I do not understand why the phrase "irrelevant strawman" somehow detracted from my point. It's a rather common term of art? I don't get it.

Eh... I think rather than my opinion being an "irrelevant strawman" we simply disagree. From my perspective 100k wasn't a meaningful amount of money when I compare it to his level of wealth. I also think kobe is not a complete idiot and either realized he shouldn't continue to do things like that or the team's PR guys stepped in and explained to him very clearly that he could not continue to do that because future repurcussions would likely be much worse. And by worse I don't mean the league fining him but rather the fans/potential sponsorship money lost would become a noticable problem. I highly doubt the 100k fine itself mattered to him at all.

But I suppose this is completely off-topic to the destiny situation so idk if we should continue @_@

Also, personal anecdote of course, but teamliquid is the only place I've ever heard the term "strawman" actively used. Actually, prior to coming here I had never heard it before. I don't know if it's /that/ commonly used.

Yes it is. I have a rational argument for why those slurs should not be used. His is simply bigotry. Freedom of Speech doesn't give a platform to hatred anymore than it does a loon who insists that Santa is real.

does the contract between Destiny and Quantic have a COC a code of conduct clause? If so, then Destiny is in direct violation of it and can be terminated or disiplined at any moments notice.

I feel like the argument "It's just destiny, he's always like that", isn't valid since other people, ex. Orb, got punished really hard for it.
In the end it's up to Quantic / sponsors, but i can't really support such a behaviour, since we, TL, have one of the greatest communitys out there. Would be a shame if incidents like this should change that.

The discussion's been had many times before. People who fall to one side will continue to believe that post-discussion, as will people on the otherside. It's an argument about a meaningless topic where people's opinions will never be changed.

That's the thing, Steven, it isn't a meaningless topic to a sizable portion of this community. You, being white, probably don't realize how hurtful it is being the target of malicious racism on a regular basis. Do me a favor and don't speak for anyone else when you have nothing productive to say. You are simply spreading hate, and it's appalling to me that TL still features you and your team does nothing about your rampant use of racial and sexual bigotry. Just because you have become so desensitized to the use of "faggot" and racial slurs does not mean that they are acceptable in any fashion.
