A much less "severe" situation in the "real world", imo. That's what needs to happen.

Actual players like Kobe Bryant have used terms also seen in the OP to very little repercussion.

Oh, really?

How's 100k dollars?

http://nymag.com/daily/intel/2011/04/kobe_bryant_fined_for_homophob.html

Compare that 100k to how much money that guy gets paid and already has been paid. He can probably wipe his ass with 1,000 dollar bills and not even notice a change in his bank account.

This is an irrelevant strawman. A 100k fine is a hefty penalty, even for a wealthy person, and is the league showing how serious the incident was. There were a lot of human and civil rights groups who were furious over the incident.

I fail to see how it's an irrelevent strawman that a 100k fine means very little to someone of kobe's financial status. Care to explain? 100k would be a crushing amount of money for someone like me but to someone like kobe? He may as well have been slapped on the wrist. 100k just looks like a big number to the average person.

NBA players are also represented by a union, and the league can only fine a player a certain amount based on the current agreement with the union. So you can't look at Kobe's finances when evaluating the fine because the union/league probably structured the penalty based on how it would effect the lowest paid person in the league. The NBA min salary for 2012 was around $490k, which after taxes would make a fine of $100k extremely high.

Yeah, I figured the fines were capped and that's why it was only 100k but my entire point was in regards to kobe himself not to a random bench warmer.

Let's make racism an intolerable offence within the community - far more sponsors will show interest in SC2, if fighting bigotry for its own sake isn't enough.

Hello,

I would like to express my disappointment in Razer's decision to sponsor the Starcraft 2 player Destiny, and his team Quantic, in light of racist comments regularly made on his stream.

Like many players, I see his comments as representative of the type of culture his sponsors wish to foster. I consider continued sponsorship of Destiny, either directly or through his team Quantic, as tacit approval by Razer of the use of racial slurs meant to divide and inflame.

As such, I cannot morally justify continued use and purchase of Razer products.

All the best,

Well, you're doing the scene more harm than good, after being told this would cause more harm than good. Actually contacting Quantic, the people who are most relevant to this, would help the situation.

I'm actually okay with people complaining directly to sponsors if they feel bad about what Destiny says in this case.

In the case of orb EG didn't know that he had that kind of baggage, and people took orb's racist comments straight to the sponsors. That was incredibly unfair, because the community didn't give EG the chance to do any in-house discipline or damage control as a reaction to new information that came to light.

In the case of Destiny Quantic knows exactly how he acts and hired him in spite of (or perhaps because of) it. There's no new information in what the OP posted at all, and Quantic doesn't care. This is the appropriate time for those that feel he shouldn't have a place in this community (I'm not one of those people, by the way) to go to the sponsors, because at least we know in this situation that Quantic had their chance.

As i said before Destinys agenda is not racist its just to play games and entertain, i am almost certain he's soul is not racist and even care about anything that has to do with that blacks are less worth than any other human. So give him a harsh warning and im 100% sure that he will stop using any racial words. He will use retard, but your allowed say that right.

The problem with your logic is that this is real life, not a cartoon. Destiny is not saying these things to be funny, he is saying them with malicious intent and no regard for the person on the other end of his attacks.

I think you need to google what 'malicious' means. It's pretty obvious that all of Destiny's BM is to be funny and increase his publicity.

I like how Destiny pretends to not be a 'real' racist. He comes off as someone who has taken one too many community college philosophy courses. 'They are just woooords, man, they don't mean anything'

yes, write to sponsors. Let's punish the whole team for your viewpoint.

we are not trying to punish the team, we are trying to put pressure on the team to enact disciplinary measures

Let him have his hateful opinions, they do not hurt you, being "offended" is not a reason to ban opinions. You are basically just saying that your opinion is better than his, which is much more ignorant in my opinion.

The opinion that someone is inferior by virtue of their race or sexual orientation is not an opinion we need to respect. And yes, if you're using race or sexual orientation as an insult that by definition means you think they are inferior...otherwise those words wouldn't be insults.

You don't have to respect it, but I/we do not have to respect your opinion that his opinion shouldn't be respected. Your opinion is not better/worth more than his, sorry

Yes it is. I have a rational argument for why those slurs should not be used. His is simply bigotry. Freedom of Speech doesn't give a platform to hatred anymore than it does a loon who insists that Santa is real.

I find it hard to belive that you have a rational argument for that, since slurs can only harm your feelings, which is easily countered by growing a thicker skin. In my opinion you are just a person that holds you own opinions for more worth than others, a kind of opinion "racism" in some sense.

I think you are the one who needs to be googling. His words were plainly said in anger and intended to be hurtful towards the other player in an attempt to vent that anger.

You are moronic and doing this like this will drive away companies from supporting e-sports teams. Message the team, threaten to contact sponsors and wait for a response. Luckily Razer is experienced in e-sports and this is unlikely to do too much damage, if this were a company less invested you could have just severely hurt a whole bunch of people.

Now see, I dont think you actually stand by this...

You could have just contacted Quantic.

when one make the kinds of comments Destiny on a continuous basis one leaves themselves open to this kind of reply. If this gets Destiny fired will he now try to play the victim card? Or will he go through that tear-jerking heart warming "personal evolution" that Orb did?

the suspense is killing me.

NO! NO! This needs to stop right here right now! This is the orb story all over again. This thread is filled with hypocrites who have nothing better to do than to run around trying to ruin other's careers. Do you have ANY idea how fucking hard it is to obtain a sponsor? You can trash talk Destiny all you want, but do NOT start whining to the sponsors. You can be offended all you want. Nothing happens when you get offended. But you step over the line the second you start trying to make someone lose their jobs.

All this talk about "ruining esports". This is it, right here. Not Destiny or Orb for calling people names. But YOU for trying to ruining their jobs.
