Well i think that behaviour is kinda troublesome.
From an TL kind of view, i really cant understand why Destiny is still a featured streamer. The biggest problem with this behaviour is not that its hurting peoples feelings (because someone who's familiar with internet slang is probably not even offended by him) but it really does put esport into the "childish corner" that it finally needs to get out of.
I think it really hurts the community in a way that people that just heard about sc2 and accidentally watch his stream may get a wrong impression of what the community looks like. Just imagine you're maybe new to the scene, or come here because you just read an article on some newssite and watch his stream, i highly doubt you would think esport wants to be taken seriously.

No idea why this thread is still open as it just promotes hostility towards each other. If this post is intended to be a level, then well done. If it isn't, then perhaps you should read your final sentence again in the context of the OP. I laughed and thought the exact same thing. It's far and away my favourite post in the thread.

support-us@razersupport.com No. Do not do this. It hurts the scene rather than makes the situation better. Take your emails to Quantic instead. lol how does it hurt the scene if idiots dont get sponsor anymore? How about they stop sponsoring new people since they view the risks of negative backlash being to high for it to be worth it? Yes, so let's hide every bad quality of the community from them. That couldn't possibly backfire. Read the OP please. The point is you should report to Quantic first and THEN, if Quantic doesn't take any actions, talk with the sponsors. Reporting to Quantic will allow them to take action against Destiny specifically. Reporting to the sponsor might have negative implications for all the Quantic players.

Destiny acts like a child literally for a fucking living, and the dumbass SC community keeps on rewarding him for it. Nothing is going to happen due it this, even though the exact. same. thing. happened to orb and it ruined his career.

I don't care what Destiny says on his stream or on Battle.net. That's own3d's or blizzard's job. There's only one thing I really care about, which would be that he's featured here on TL. Pretty much everyone here should have read the commandments and should remember that it clearly says: "This means gratuitous swearing is a no-no" or "Tasteless jokes at the expense of someone's race, gender, or sexual orientation are not acceptable" and I can't understand how you'd be instantly temp banned when you call someone a gook, faggot or whatever here on the forums, when Destiny can still be featured here while he's breaking the commandments over and over and over again.

Dont worry guys soon he will become a full time LoL player and join the community he most likely should be a part of.

The least he can do is show some class and professionalism when going about his work and realizing that in those thousands of viewers there are many different people of all races/ethnic backgrounds.
Agreed. I don't think anybody's OFFENDED about this much. Although someone should tell the Koreans that QxG.Destiny apparently doesn't think too highly of their race, the Koreans don't take too kindly to that sort of thing.

He's obviously a VERY insecure person, and I have noticed that from the day he became popular when Infestors were overpowered. What I dont understand is why the hell people still enjoy watching him after how immature he acts. I honestly think the mature SC2 players have no care or interest in him, but the high school aged players do enjoy it. But unfortunately high school kids have yet to mature. I mean the guy let a pornstar mooch off him, and I'm sure that these high school kids think thats super cool..
People like destiny should be frowned upon in the community. You don't see PROFESSIONAL athletes running around throwing racial slurs at anyone who beats them, so why the hell should we tolerate it? IMO he's bad for this game, and he's definitely bad at this game now that Infestors aren't as strong as they were in the past. I hope the rest of you realize how bad he is for the community and stop giving attention that he no longer deserves. Such comment makes me feel sad about SC2 community as a whole.
Dude, you don't get why he is funny. Ok, that's fine but apparently, 4k+ people find him entertaining. You don't? Then good/sorry for you, We don't care. Saying "mature SC2" players have no care or interest in him is simply self centered. Mature people cannot have a different sense of humor now? "let a pornstar mooch off him"? Be more personal attack please.
Do you see PROFESSIONAL athletes showing their training/daily life as often as streamers?
The attention that you don't think he deserves but still get is exactly what is proving how wrong you are, the "mature" one

I don't see why we shouldn't have a discussion about this, since there have been several in the past that didn't get banned - actually i think they were healthy for our community. I feel like the argument "It's just destiny, he's always like that", isn't valid since other people, ex. Orb, got punished really hard for it. In the end it's up to Quantic / sponsors, but i can't really support such a behaviour, since we, TL, have one of the greatest communitys out there. Would be a shame if incidents like this should change that.

Claiming a statement which includes the words "Fuck off, Gook" as being accurate is just bad taste.

This is an irrelevant strawman. A 100k fine is a hefty penalty, even for a wealthy person, and is the league showing how serious the incident was. There were a lot of human and civil rights groups who were furious over the incident.

What makes something offensive or hurtful is not whether or not it hurts you individually. It hurts others. I know the internet has made us desensitized to those things, but this is a community; a real community of people who deserve respect. What he said offends me.
Furthermore I would never have wanted to share my eSports passion with my friends if I was worried they would be exposed to this. It would offend them, and reflect poorly on this community. It DOES reflect poorly on this community. Thinking that everyone should "grow up" and expect, condone, or passively endorse this kind of behavior is completely backwards.
People say a lot of stupid shit on the internet, it's true. That doesn't mean it has to spill over into our budding eSports economy. You talk about getting mad at those wanting to tell sponsors? Get mad at Destiny for putting us in this position! I support eSports NOT RACIAL SLURS. Blame the person responsible, and expect responsibility to be taken. That is how you act "grown up".
Pretty sure I covered the point about blaming the person "responsible", but since you seem to have missed it I will cover it further. You are responsible for your own actions, if you complain to the sponsors you are completely responsible for it, it is up to you to choose your reaction and I am telling you now that it hurts Esports much more than any racial slur.
This kind of situation would not hurt Esports in any way if people didn't respond as they have. If you have sensitive friends you wish to recommend competitive Starcraft to, tell them to avoid Destiny's stream, as if it weren't for threads like this that is the only place that you would have to witness such behaviour and I am fairly sure his stream has warnings, so viewers know what they could potentially be witnessing.
Ultimately, complaining to his sponsors doesn't even get the desired result anyway because you can be sure he will still stream whether he has a team or not. If you support Esports you wouldn't complain to sponsors because whether you like it or not that is the most damaging out of possible outcomes.
Actually taking responsibility for your own actions and their outcomes is how you be an adult rather than just acting like one.

If Destiny was a player at the very top he would have got kicked from the team.
Now since it isn't his play that he is famous for he, for some reason, is accepted by lot of people that like to tune into his stream.
I just don't pay attention to him because he has nothing to contribute to the community as a player.
|
Actual players like Kobe Bryant have used terms also seen in the OP to very little repercussion.
Ya? Go look up what happened recently with Marlins manager Ozzie Guillen. Then come back and say that what he said had very little repercussions.
|
Doesn't mean the SC2 community shouldn't care. I think SC2 can only benefit from having a more respectful community.
No, I don't want to hang Destiny right now, but I think he should receive a strong warning from Quantic and grow up because this is really childish.
