Just like every other industry, the experts and professionals learn from the people before them(if they are smart). So the modern players today are playing with improved and refined techniques in every aspect of how professional basketball players train/compete/heal compared to 30 years ago. I was typing up a post about this when people were throwing out names earlier but wasn't able to finish it and then left work (plus has a little dejavu just now bc I think posted something similar over a year ago).Personally, I prefer the term "once in a generation" or something similar because there has usually been at least one transcendent wing player of that caliber during each generation of basketball. Of course, that's accounting for the evolution of the sport and its players, i.e. "once in a generation" player in the 70's is likely not going to be as good as one in the 2000's simply because of how different and more advanced the game is now, sports medicine/training, etc. There may always be incredible talents in the NBA, but there has never been more than a few at that level at any given time. I am sure many people probably thought Wilt was a player in that same category, but we all know that Wilt in the modern game would not be as dominant. Are Kobe and Jordan rare? Yes, but to say they haven't revolutionized the game to some degree for future players would be counter-intuitive. Could you say that Kobe would be the player he became without ever watching Jordan play and be inspired by him? It is possible, but Jordan gave him a model to build upon. Future players will be looking at today's players for reference, and the game will keep evolving, which is pretty important when comparing players of different eras. now on to this game (woot), just wanted to post that before. Crowd going to be great today ^^

![]() I'm also interested to see what would happen if Boston vs SA in the finals came about. The "old school" NBA Fans would explode on the internet.

They needed a younger, more athletic PG to keep up witht he other guys in the league. He is good as backup PG in his old age.
