When you buy name brand you are buying the brand.
Jin, that's not correct. There is a remarkable difference between handfinished Evisu/PDC/APC/Nudie jeans and some crap from the Gap. Expensive jeans are not for everyone, but if you aren't broke and you aren't blind, you will see that the fit and quality of top brand jeans are far ahead of other brands. If it doesn't matter to you at all, don't call it stupid. I don't make fun of how poor people dress, so I would expect the same from everyone else.

In that case, let me ask you this, say if the same pair of high quality jeans is being sold at Walmart (under a no-name brand) but priced at $150 and one day you saw it in the store while jean-shopping, would you go buy it because you recognized how great the quality is? Now, say if a pair of Nudie jeans is priced 'on sale' for $60 but it is actually Gap quality, which one would you buy? Hypothetically speaking.
Edit: Also, let me ask, have you ever gone shopping in China? I'm not talking the crap tourist malls in Shanghai and Beijing. Do you even know what the quality is like? Any item of clothing, with the equal quality as a name brand, minus the brand, is worth 100 times less than the sale price. Consumers always buy based on brand. We trust what we are familiar with. IMO.

I would jump on that. A lot of the brands I wear are very expensive but the average person does not know them (ie. Kiton, Borelli, Brioni, Loro Piana, Pal Zileri)...
I'm about quality and looks. I detest logos. If China could prove that it could make a suit as well as expert tailors in Milan or Naples, I would believe it. Unfortunately, China is filled with unskilled labor and uses poor materials. If the day comes that a chinese tailor can make a suit better than Brioni, and it even costs less (but no one knows the name), you can bet your ass I'd be wearing it.
My feelings on brands are not typical though. A lot of kids I know with money like to wear stuff with logos... the ugly Gucci (G) logo, girls I know love Louis Vuitton monogram handbags etc... I think all of that is disgusting.

Ah ok, I respect that.
But:

How in holy hell is that untrue.

If it's 36 Inch long fits and feels good and lasts at least for 3 years. Costs about 40 or 50. If non-brand clothing is only for the obese in the USA that's though. In the Netherlands there sre good midrange products you don't have to pay for a hype. I skip the discount stores and the designerstuff. B-brands (brands of the franchise) are 6 months behind the design thats not a big drawback if you consider wearing it for 3 years.

Are you from China? Are you aware of the quality of clothes there?

Unskilled labor is true. Poor materials is not. In terms of quality, labor in China is actually a LOT better than elsewhere in the world. This isn't meant to be offensive or in a joking manner, but little Chinese girls are a lot better at what they do than what machines would do here. I've worked in a jewelry display import company, and the way they put shit together is seamless. In comparison to the machine made stuff in America which is filled with unusable products (ie: corners are bent out of shape, edges don't match, etc), the Chinese made goods are amazing.

Designer jeans aren't made in china, at least none of the good ones are. I don't know where you shop, but probably the most common waist size I find in stores is 32. That's a pretty average waist size, so maybe you're just way to skinny.

Wow just from talking to brand of clothes you go do some shit and insult other countries?
Teamliquid for the win!

S'what happens when you insult a mans overpriced jeans.

If you:
1) Don't currently live in China 2) Have never been a resident for an extended period of time in China 3) Have no part whatsoever in the fashion industry apart from being a casual consumer
then please, please, control your ignorance. Stupid generalizations cause pointless flame wars. I don't want to argue about the labor force in China or about the range of the quality of goods that can be found there, it's seriously a pointless waste of energy.

so apparently this community is populated by metrosexuals?

I wear Buggle Boy, Original 725, Brooks, Cherokee, etc. Thanks

I dont spend too much money on clothes that are for casual wear. Jeans i do spend money on because i wear the pair like 2-3 times before i wash them. As long as the cloth and fit is just right, then it doesnt matter what brand it is. However, as for dress clothes ex. dress shirts, slacks, I shop express (a small brand, but very nice fits), Bananna rep. Its business type clothing, so i spend an arm and a leg on it.

You could also say its populated by professional chefs, marathon runners, professional bodybuilders, professional dietitians, physicians, and computer tech experts
I wouldn't make judgements about the people here based on one thread in General discussion

Bullshit. Please list the top quality products comming out of China. China is an industrial powerhouse which is about to explode. They will make their fortune in mass produced products, not in the high end cottage industries of Italy.
You are really prepared to tell me that "little Chinese girls" know how to pickstitch and make a fully canvassed jacket like on Saville Row? I never insulted China, I am stating a fact. By and large, a great deal of labor in China is very rudementary. That is not to say that China will soon rule the world economy, but it simply is not true that Chinese companies are even interested in rivalling design houses who cater to a very small, selective group... there's simply way more money in what China is doing.
