Seriously though, anyone who is happy about this is a fucking asshole. Straight up.
proud to be a one then.
i'm not just satisfied it happened, i'm super happy. i have no prior hate towards naniwa, but i don't honestly believe he could have thought after living in korea for a while that this will be taken lightly.
I don't know why so many people are shitting on GOM. Naniwa put them in this position when he disrespected them, their sponsors, us as viewers, his own team, and his opponent. If GOM didn't act accordingly with the public backlash in Korea, it would have hurt their reputation at home, which they absolutely cannot afford. While I do believe that this punishment is extreme, I think its ridiculous that people are calling GOM "disgusting" or "disgraceful" for banning a player who both probe rushed in one game and rage quit in another.

Yes, was Naniwa did was pretty idiotic. However what GOM is doing is first of all denying any responsibility. The classy thing for GOM to do would have been to make an announcement in the style of "We recognize that at least some part of the Naniwa issue lies on our behalf with a format that was not completely thought through. We do however not condone the type of behaviour that Naniwa displayed in his match against Nestea and therefore he will be receiving X." - where X is a harsh warning or a minor penalty.
Instead they're sinking to Naniwas level by taking away a spot in a tournament that has no relation to this one, that he had earned in a tournament not related to this one.
And people bringing up the difference in culture do have somewhat of a valid point. However they also need to consider that GOM is marketing their tournaments as international tournaments, actively trying to bring foreign players into their tournaments. Considering this they should have some leniency with foreign culture and try to meat foreigners maybe not half way but at least somewhere along the road when it comes to culture. It doesn't seem quite reasonable to expect people who have been there for such a short amount of time to be able to fully understand and abide to all Korean cultures and values.
"they're sinking to Naniwas level". so you're defending Naniwa while accusing GOM of sinking to his level? what?

Pretty scandalous behaviour from them - can you really imagine Manchester United getting banned from a tournament for fielding a weakened team in a game that doesn't matter?
A better comparison would be if their players just stood still and let the other team score infinite goals.
More like a team just walks out of the stadium as soon as the game starts.
Actually, in PROFESSIONAL SPORTS, useless games aren't even played. If they are, they don't use their starting lines, instead they play their rookies and developing roster. Get your facts right people, stop living in a box.

I'm quoting this post because Badboyrune sums up my feelings quite nicely...
I am very disappointed by GOMs decision to remove probably the best non-Korean player on the planet from an completely different tournament simply for a minor error of judgement in a game that honestly didn't matter in the slightest.. I was really looking forward to seeing Naniwa in Code S...

When naniwa and Hero threw their games, it was due to the flawed format of the tournament. Having a bad tournament-system produces perverse incentives. We saw the result of that. GOM fails to acknowledge their own part in what has happened, and instead puts all blame on one player. That is not the way to do it.
Only Naniwa threw games. Hero played as well as he could. He didn't go 0-4 because he threw anything.
Did you see his game against DRG? He clearly did not play to win. The commentators mentioned it, and it was obvious in the reactions in the LR-thread.
It didn't look like Hero threw the game at all...just bad decision to cannon and risky sentry drop since he was already so far behind. I think the fact that Nani probe rushed and actually took his hands off the keyboard and made no effort to even micro was throwing the game and thats just not acceptable at all.
Coca threw his game and has been kicked out of Code S and all other tournaments indefinitely...While I think the ban was pretty harsh, Nani getting banned for one season isn't as bad.
Like most people have said in Korea respect is everything and foreigners have to be mindful of that.
Well, lots of bad decisions, bad micro, bad multi-tasking and bad macro is what throwing a game looks like
But to make clear, I'm not blaming Hero at all. As I wrote, it's a result of the bad tournament-structure, that puts players in impossible situations. The real problem is that GOM refuses to acknowledge their own part in what has happened and instead puts the blame solely on the shoulders of the player.

this. I have much more respect for GOM now knowing that they're this devoted to the quality of e-sports. I can only commend them for being upset at naniwa. they're trying to create a high quality piece of entertainment and naniwa just comes in and shits on everything? screw him...
Good decision by gom. Naniwa made a mockery of them through his gameplay. The reactions in this thread is an example of why the korean scene is regarded as more professional than the foreign scene.
Naniwa can go to MLG and call it a joke tournament live on stage and MLG does nothing and let him walk all over them. Gom has more self respect to let that happen to them. I applaud Gom for this decision.

Naniwa was punished by GOM for 1 season, Coca was punished by SLAYERS until they say he's ready, its not the same punishment...
I'm pretty sure gom would have punished Coca if Slayers had not, according to Mr. Chae's statement of the incident. Moreover, because Slayers withdrew Coca from the GSL, there was nothing gom could do even if they wanted to punish him additionally.

They punished them for 25,000 euros? LOL, you know how much money football players make?
you can't relate that to this situation because in this case, they're taking the COMPLETELY OUT OF THE TOURNAMENT.
Well his Code S seed is the only thing they can take away from him. Do you think he would ever pay a fine if they would've fined him?
If a soccer team would come to a match and only stand still it and let the opponent score goals at will, how would the fans react? If a team came to a match and just walked out of the stadium, how would the fans react?
