How is probe-rushing an unimportant match offending the audience or opponent?
Sigh....
Every mule drop ever.

I can only commend them for being upset at naniwa. they're trying to create a high quality piece of entertainment and naniwa just comes in and shits on everything? screw him... Yeah on the one hand I respect them for that but on the other hand I reaaaaally dislike them handing out Code S spots based on pure popularity (to Sen and Idra lol) and not to more deserving players

Chances are I'll get banned for the language I'm about to use... but... FUCK YOU GOMTV. You've just lost so many viewers.
User was temp banned for this post.

Yes, was Naniwa did was pretty idiotic. However what GOM is doing is first of all denying any responsibility. The classy thing for GOM to do would have been to make an announcement in the style of "We recognize that at least some part of the Naniwa issue lies on our behalf with a format that was not completely thought through. We do however not condone the type of behaviour that Naniwa displayed in his match against Nestea and therefore he will be receiving X." - where X is a harsh warning or a minor penalty.
Instead they're sinking to Naniwas level by taking away a spot in a tournament that has no relation to this one, that he had earned in a tournament not related to this one.
And people bringing up the difference in culture do have somewhat of a valid point. However they also need to consider that GOM is marketing their tournaments as international tournaments, actively trying to bring foreign players into their tournaments. Considering this they should have some leniency with foreign culture and try to meat foreigners maybe not half way but at least somewhere along the road when it comes to culture. It doesn't seem quite reasonable to expect people who have been there for such a short amount of time to be able to fully understand and abide to all Korean cultures and values. "they're sinking to Naniwas level". so you're defending Naniwa while accusing GOM of sinking to his level? what?
Yes, how doesn't that make sense? Two wrongs don't make one right. If someone does something stupid, is it the right thing to do to be equally stupid back?

that doesn't even make sense. they're banning a player knowing it will decrease viewership for the sake of upholding their rules.

I think Nani was just made an example of, GSL and the scene in korea has a ton of pride and feel like they can't let it slide. I wonder if it would of been different if it wasn't against Nestea?
Both sides are to blame, Nani should of just played the game out even if it was less than 15 min game all-in and GSL needs to make sure that their format isn't so shitty that the players have to play "pointless matches".
|
I don't think GOM should do it, but it is their right.
I feel that there is double standards at work since MC/Stephano should get some type (pun!) punishment for writing stuff in game. But whatever.
I will continue to watch GSl though but my motivation to buying tickets just dropped off by a couple of percents..
|
I expected Naniwa to escape punishment because he is a foreigner.
|
Gom should have given Nani a token financial fine too then - fine him a thousand dollars and he won't do it again.
|
Well, if there actually is some rule than Naniwa is pretty screwed.. not much more to say here
|
so many people throwing hissy fits threatening to cancel their subscription...
oh you gotta love the drama
|
Why does it bother you guys that NaNiwa is being tossed from GSL January?
It isn't like NaNiwa has any respect for GOM or their tournaments.
|
Isn't that the exact same punishment Coca got for fixing a match?

GOM just did what MLG didn't have the guts to do. If a player disrespects your tournament, kick him out for the season. This has nothing to do with guts. MLG isn't a tournament that will make an exaggerated decision just to set an example for other players. GOM on the other hand justifies most of their decisions on this premise.

Pretty scandalous behaviour from them - can you really imagine Manchester United getting banned from a tournament for fielding a weakened team in a game that doesn't matter? A better comparison would be if their players just stood still and let the other team score infinite goals. More like a team just walks out of the stadium as soon as the game starts. Actually, in PROFESSIONAL SPORTS, useless games aren't even played. If they are, they don't use their starting lines, instead they play their rookies and developing roster. Get your facts right people, stop living in a box. Yup, and that's also getting punished: http://www.guardian.co.uk/football/2010/feb/18/wolves-fined-manchester-united They punished them for 25,000 euros? LOL, you know how much money football players make? you can't relate that to this situation because in this case, they're taking the COMPLETELY OUT OF THE TOURNAMENT. you can't force fines in GSL like you can with sports, but the point is if you don't take games seriously in any sport, you will get punished. Even useless games
The point is, the punishment was too severe, god people are slow.

My small contribution at least. Just did too. I'm a Naniwa fan so obviously I'm biased but if any other player did the same thing and was punished the same way I'd still do the same. The ruling was so ridiculous

Yeah because a player obviously not taking the two biggest tournaments seriously enough to show a hint of respect towards them and getting absolutely no punishment is not hurting the legitimacy of the sport.
