Actually, in PROFESSIONAL SPORTS, useless games aren't even played. If they are, they don't use their starting lines, instead they play their rookies and developing roster. Get your facts right people, stop living in a box.

Naniwa was punished by GOM for 1 season, Coca was punished by SLAYERS until they say he's ready, its not the same punishment...

This is just beyond stupid.
Yes, was Naniwa did was pretty idiotic. However what GOM is doing is first of all denying any responsibility. The classy thing for GOM to do would have been to make an announcement in the style of "We recognize that at least some part of the Naniwa issue lies on our behalf with a format that was not completely thought through. We do however not condone the type of behaviour that Naniwa displayed in his match against Nestea and therefore he will be receiving X." - where X is a harsh warning or a minor penalty.
Instead they're sinking to Naniwas level by taking away a spot in a tournament that has no relation to this one, that he had earned in a tournament not related to this one.
And people bringing up the difference in culture do have somewhat of a valid point. However they also need to consider that GOM is marketing their tournaments as international tournaments, actively trying to bring foreign players into their tournaments. Considering this they should have some leniency with foreign culture and try to meat foreigners maybe not half way but at least somewhere along the road when it comes to culture. It doesn't seem quite reasonable to expect people who have been there for such a short amount of time to be able to fully understand and abide to all Korean cultures and values.

Warning or disqualification - 경기중에 과격한 행동으로 상대 게이머나 관중들에게 위협을 가할 때 - During a match, a player shall not offend the opponent or audience with abusive behaviours This need to be quoted, as 50% of the posts still are "he was disrespectful, but didn't break any rules". A source for this would be good though. Personally I really don't like the way nani behaves in general and am happy on a personal level if he gets punished. Anti-fan here, sorry. But I also feels that GOM would damage themselves if they start handing bans out without it being really clear from the rules. So I'm a bit split on this issue. Such a draconic rule. The actions to which you can be punish and the lines that you draw are so stupidly arbitrary. What is abusive/offensive? Manner MULEs? Not GGing? Pausing without PP? Ceremonies? 6 Pool? Probe rushing? Stupid, stupid, stupid and vague rule.

Hey bro, this game meant nothing to me so let put our workers in the middle of the map and get this over quick. I support GOM. Naniwa can just proxy gateway and throw games. Their commentators can twist it into something exciting, not some fucking probe rush.
The difference is the game actually mean't nothing if people decided to probe rush every game then they wouldn't win tournaments and they wouldn't be considered good players. When Idra decided not to play his pool play games in IPL3 should he be banned he didn't even give the viewers any games... IT was stupid for him to probe rush but it was his choice to make

Apparently MLG was really close to disqualifying him at Providence against Nestea because of his pause and calling MLG a "joke tournament" but they decided against it.
GOM just did what MLG didn't have the guts to do. If a player disrespects your tournament, kick him out for the season.

I just sent an email for a refund. Joke tournament...
|
This is probably the worst bending of the rules that I have ever seen. "Abusive behavior"? Are you fucking kidding me?
|
"Warning or disqualification"
even if he did break the rule, he should be disqualified from the current tournament, not banned from the next? everything about this just seems wrong from GOM
|
What does the sponsored seed mean ? And is naniwa banned for 2012 or just 1st GSL of 2012 ?
|
Ok. I'm curious.
What strategies are for GOM ... ok? Is it ok to do a 6 pool? Is it ok to take 4 drones and attack? We clearly see we can't probe rush ...
Soon we will see that the minimum game requirement is 30 minutes and we get 15 minutes to "evolve" like playing on Big Game Hunters 10 years ago.

Yup, and that's also getting punished:

Naniwa did not disrespect GomTV, they disrespected him for making him play useless games and wasting his time. Not only that, they took away something he's been working for from the ground up (his breakout at MLG).

If this is true, then byebye gom, FUCK YOU
|
Wow, this is disgusting behaviour, I will not be watching GSL again.
|
Thank god GOM reacted in a professional way. such unsportsman behaviour should not be tolerated
|
Poor decision from GomTV. With the invitation of other randomly picked "foreigners" into code S the GSL looks more like a charade than a professional competition.
Some punishment was absolutely in order though.

Naniwa said in that interview with Dignitas or documentary when he won MLG that it is worth 1000 times more than the money, also I think everyone know that Naniwa's intentions were winning Code S more than making money, he wanted to become the best. I understand the decision by them, because of their culture etc. But feels rather cheap to as "amateur prize money hunter" especially considering he has showed on several occasions that being the best is worth more than earning the most.

They punished them for 25,000 euros? LOL, you know how much money football players make?
you can't relate that to this situation because in this case, they're taking the COMPLETELY OUT OF THE TOURNAMENT.

Do you understand that you can't win with a strategy like probe rush in a competition like GSL. You might not win straight-up with 6pooling, but you can follow it up and win. That is the difference between these.
