A Singaporean teenager of 14 years of age is currently the attention of local media. Her first name is 'Adelyn' ,and she goes by the web moniker of 'Adelyn Hosehbo'
'Ho Seh Bo' is what I believe to be "Isn't it nice?" or something along the lines of that meaning to display arrogance or cockiness in Hokkien I think.
To be brief, this girl slapped her own biological mother and then bragged about it on Facebook.
cb = Cunt. In this usage, it means 'damned'. swee = Good. tahan = Tolerate. kpo = Be a busy body. jialat = Terrible. wha lao = An expression of disbelief/shock. Similar to 'Omg'.
As if such an act of defiance in an Asian culture (Filial piety is a big thing amongst us) was not bad enough, she then proceeded to steal jewellery from her mother and then pawned it all for an estimated sum of SGD 10,000 (By my rough estimation it should be around USD9200). With the money gained, she bought herself a Louis Vutton wallet for probably the only reason why a teenager would do such a thing - bragging rights.
That's not the end to this epic tale though. Are you ready? After purchasing the wallet and bragging even more to her friends, she got robbed by her very own friends. The robbery was reported to the police but as far as I know Adelyn's mother decided to press charges on her own daughter. I'am unsure about her friends though.
If anyone needs translations for the Facebook post feel free to ask =P

Do you Americans have issues similar to these over there? Because in my country things like these are treated so seriously that we will probably never forget this girl until we die and we will spread stories of this insolent fool for centuries to come. Singaporeans are like that =)

Epic fail on the part of the girl. you slap your own mother, which is disgusting in it's own right. then you take 6000 dollars from her. you brag about it by buying expensive things and bragging about it to your friends on facebook. then your own 'FRIENDS' decide to rob the money from you and last but not least, your mother presses charges against you.
I gotta ask the girl, at which point did she ever think that it would be a successful plan????
Woot woot, Asian rebellion Gogogo! Lol.. but really unless her parents are irresponsible, she is in some deep sh#@ This coming first hand from an Asian But really.. Loui Vuitton wallet? that's it? for a 14 y.o Asian I kind of expected more
I believed she pawned her mum's jewellery for 10k, bought a LV wallet for 4k and the remaining 6k was stolen by her own friends. There was also news of her going around a mall and terrorizes people with her gang. She slapped a girl for looking at her wrong.
Why the hell is she on the news? I don't even know why.
That's semi-hilarious, semi-sad and semi-weird... But yes, fairly large fail from the girl, She brags about it on facebook and her friends rob her. Yay!

Thanks for taking time to do this! I'll add it to the OP

Contrary to popular belief some Asians are actually dumb as fuck.

While I certainly believe that she deserves to be punished, I would not wish to put her in the same position as Judge William Adam's daughter. William Adam is amoral, irrational, and an animal.

It's one of the growing problems amongst the youth in my country. I think I'll be writing something about this sometime soon, possibly a blog or in this thread.
Isn't this just a sensationalist topic? Yeah, defiance is rare in Asian cultures (right?), but the only responses or discussions you'll get is disapproval (rightly so).
Greed. Jealousy. Corruption. Most likely... the hearts of Man are easily swayed by materials...they wouldn't cast it into the fires if given a chance...

No: westernized culture and materialism due to the sensationalist and distorted views of mass media set upon easily influenced youths with low moral standards and properly learned sentimental values and respect for their authorities.

It´s a serious issue everwhere else as well.

My colleague spent 3 weeks in Singapore in business and he claims to have gotten small 1 page "newspapers" or "news updates" in his hotel room (was a small, local hotel in a residential area). He asked someone for a translation and among local news there was also a picture of a man who had been convicted of rape or pedophilia (I can't remember which, some sex crime though). It also contained his name, address and his parents name and address.
He got the impression that the newspaper was local for the block and that the man and his family lived in said block.
Is this a common thing to expose criminals in public along with the entire family like that? Seems harsh for the parents.

Is there like, some sort of louis vitton equivalent of mount doom to cast the wallet into? and in so doing bring honour to the hearts of teens everywhere? 3 handbags to the elves, 5 sturdy travel puches to the dwarves, and 7 fine leather wallets to the human kings, something like that?
The fact that her wallet ends up being stolen is not surprising at all. Very hard to resist not to betray them when given the opportunity. It seemed like she'd have gotten away with it if she didn't speak a word after having pawned the jewelery in exchange for money.
Stuff like this is never reported in the main papers but usually on smaller newspapers. There's this website called STOMP where it's filled ridiculous stuff like this. People just like to read about the misdeeds of others I guess.
