I watched hundreads of starcraft 2 matches and i realize one thing :

the more control group key player use , the better skill the player has

The best player like MC , Nestle ....use all 10 control group keys, while the pro player like huk use only 7-8 , and the ign pro leagues players use only 4-6

As my observation, the best player after the 8th minutes is gonna use all 10 keys no matter which race they use Terran, protoss, zerg...

Yes, starcraft not only about micro but macro and i believe if you want to be the best, you must practice to use all 10 key

Feel free to discuss

lol
is this a joke thread?
Nestle? And it is control groups, not hotkeys.
There are more than just control groups, there are camera position saved point on the f keys.

Some race, some units composition would have more control groups heavy than the rest, it isn't the more you use, the better you are.

My setup as zerg:

1-4 army
5 hatches
6-0 queens

I disagree with your statement though.

And I'm pretty sure that is not 100% true because many players spam control groups. I have seen MC use his last5-6 as gateway.

And Huk is not by that logic an 8 control group player. He has won many tournaments and is one of the greatest players in SC2 right now

Sheth binds each one of his hatcheries because in brood war thats what was needed. Idra binds each one of his queens for injects rather then all queens on one hotkey. I beleive losira at the beggining of each match binds his one hatchery to all of his hotkeys. IMO most brood war players are using more of the hotkeys because they are not used to the grouping of buildings and units. Using all 10 hotkeys is probably gonna be more of a micro mechanic then a macro, zerg will usually bind all queens on one hotkey and hatcheries on one, and there army spread out through the remainder for easier splits and two pronged attacks etc...

a lot of korean code-s and code-a players use not even close to 10 hotkeys, the most hover around at 6-7 and their setups are not really optimal if you look at it from an efficiency standpoint.
They just do what they are used to from broodwar and seeing that sc2 is considerably easier mechanicly they get away with being lazy with their hotkeys because they are fast enough anyways

I've seen grandmasters play with as little as 4-5 hotkeys, and only 1 being his army. He was Terran.

Why? Because he can click efficiently in the screen to control the different units within his army. Rather than having one hotkey for 4 tanks, another for the marines and another for the medivacs, he clicks them on the screen since if he's using one he's bound to be using another too.

I think it would be more efficient to setup different hotkeys. I dont want to have to go into every battle ctrl clicking my casters just to get to them. How about if overlords are over the top of a battle. How do you efficiently click then?

People have been using hotkeys to determine pro players since replays first came out for BW. Nothing new here.
