The issue is simple, my sister just bought a new laptop computer and immediately out of the box it had issues with the keyboard (half the keys don't register key presses, the other half repeat the same letter multiple times).
Since the Laptop is only a day old, I was going to get it replaced (got it from newegg).
In order to return it, all passwords need to be cleared, however, my sister unknowingly created a login password with the multiple letter / no letter problem resulting in a password different from her intention (don't ask me how she got the same combination twice, I've tried to duplicate the results and failed).
So I need to:
-clear the login password, but... -there is no disk backup to recover the password - no Windows 7 disk to reformat the hard drive and reinstall Windows
Any way to get rid of it without violating a warranty?
This is the laptop: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834214406
thanks!

ophcrack would be what you are looking for
Just burn ophcrack to a cd, boot up the pc using the cd, then get the hash and look it up with online rainbow tables.
http://ophcrack.sourceforge.net/
edit: You want the livecd version

I don't think it's a random password, it has to be close to what she intended, but since some keys don't work and others result in multiple presses, there is no idea of knowing what it could possibly be. (for a password intended to be ABC123 it could end up as AAAAC133 or ABBCCC1112). I'm a little nervous doing this, it wouldn't leave anything detectable that would violate a warranty would it?

Trinity Rescue kit. Boot into a stripped down Linux live CD basically, with recovery tools. + Show Spoiler + Note: Norton has a couple of warnings about this page, it's the correct home page for Trinity, which I've used before, but since I'm linking you to a site with an exploit tool and a security warning, it's a good idea to let you know.
And this won't do any damage, it's just software running off a CD that lets you modify the registry as data.

reboot hold F8 and go to the windows recovery console. Hopefully it will let you login, perhaps as $homegroup user, then select command prompt, or shift+f9.
Net user administrator /active:yes
then
Net user administrator p@ssw0rD
"p@ssw0rD" can be anything you want. Once you get in reset the password with the on screen keyboard.
Then start button, type in cmd Hit, ctrl+shift+enter
type this in the command prompt,
Net user administrator /active:no
Make sure you use a very secure passwords, atleast 1 number and uppercase letter and a space..
If that doesnt work, youll need an ultimate boot Cd.

I finally scoured some information on how to restore the system to factory settings without logging in. There is practically nothing useful on the laptop since it is so new.
Apparently on Toshiba laptops the recovery "disk" is actually hidden in a secret partition on the hard drive, so I was able to get rid of the password.

Ugh, Toshiba. Fair warning: If you ever need to update the BIOS on it, research their official BIOS releases first, they don't pull the download down over minor things like a bad BIOS update that bricks some laptops randomly, or put a warning on the DL page.
I'm still slightly bitter about that.

Give you a hint, trying to start a Mac/PC flamewar doesn't go over well here.
