Everyone keeps getting faster, yet nobody seems to improve. At least people dont seem to worry about it as much as they used to.

P user, 115 avg. sometimes gets up to 125 in a short game.

My average apm is like 125-130 without any useless clicks. In my opinion, i don't think anybody can go over 180 APM if they don't do any useless clicks.

bwchart says my average apm is 114 although that includes games of me obsing and saving reps etc id say its a fairly good estimate, i think what matters is what you can hit when muttitasking because my min apm in games can be 30 or 40 and my max can be 250.

also lets correlate this with skill <-- 5-1 pgtour 1152

APM is BS IMHO, especially since now everyone is so focused on purposely raising their APM using logs and real-time APM charters. And everyone that knows about APM and believes in it have 200+ APM. And they usually suck (nothing impressive in beating people in the same old "tournament" maps with startegies ripped from pros). But that's just me.

But interestingly enough, I do admit I reach peaks during the time when I'm most focused in SC, and lowest when I'm restarting to play SC after quitting SC (thanks to games like Pokemon, CS, Diablo II, WC3, Dragon Raja, RO, GB, PS2 games, school, etc.) but that doesn't mean much. =/

The most significant APM measurement would be between *major* battles and whether it's consistent with the rest of the APM rating... and ironically enough, players with superior micro skills or those who win the battle might have a lower APM than their opponent at that time (as for macro, it's really not necessary to smash "z" or whatever a hundred times... buildings have only so many queues, and you'll probably only want to queue two at most, unless you're wealthy).

Oh, before the "hahastoopid u pobly only hvae 40mxa amp neway haha" starts, I have a game jsut barely over 11 minutes that has an average of 944 APM, 941 VAPM, and 1142 Max APM - more reasons on precisely why I think APM is BS. Or how about an observer having up to 2.5 times higher APM than the participants (which there's been increasing sightings of observers with insane APM rates). Or the possibility of having a mere, say 50 or so APM and beating a, say, a ladder finalist with 300+ APM?

But that's just me. =)

on.sp33d, i dont really know u, but i really dont like you. smashing ctrl + button to get apm in the thousands, isnt exactly good ammo in an apm argument, not to mention its been said 34894358903 times, and ur opinion seems really dumb.

apm doesnt matter
the more important thing is how accurately you click and press.
this has been stated many times yes?

a lot of the actions that pro gamers do are useless clicking.

Most really good games are average 150-180...a lot of WCG 2004 people didn't go over 200 in some games they won....APM isn't everything...I could sit there hotkey Overlord and Hatchery and go back and forth and lose without doing shit, but have an APM of like 600 APM isn't everyything unless there is a point

there's no way you can play efficiently under 490 apm. but after 490 apm people are just spamming

this thread is really lame. When I am really "trying" I get up to 270 APM with protoss, however, most of it is unnecessary clicking. This can get me in the mindset that i need to be in, to concentrate on the game completely, but the APM is really not a measurement of anything. it just means that I concentrated, vs my normal games of 150 APM.

This thread should be closed.

I think max apm is more important than overall apm, my apm is between 70-100 depending on opponents skill, and my max is around 180-200. in an average 15-20 minute game its very rare that i have more than 2 "Null" actions. I am P user and win probably 70% of my wgt/gamei games.

I do feel alittle slow vs very good opponents but dont normally notice too much. my reactions are very fast, just dont constantly move my units, or select shit unless theres a point to it.

Yeah, Koreans in Korea do study English so they can speak some of it on a basic level.
He's:
- From South Korea
- Plays Terran
- His name is XellOs2yG
- His APM is looks to be around Xellos's APM
- His post doesn't reflect alot of English. He post in a topic that doesn't require alot of understanding of English
- His first post here, right after WCG ended and promising manifesto that he'd come post in the forums. (Xellos wouldn't lie would he?)

It makes sense that Xellos would come post here right after he is eliminated from OSL because he has more free time unlike before when even he admitted in his interview that he had so little time to prepare for his matches vs Reach, which is exactly what seem to have happened. This all comes together to make alot of sense. But who knows...that might be or might not be the real Xellos

APM is SO overrated though, I really hate when people measure skill by apm.

I'm a Terran user and my APM usually fluctuates between 120-150.
I don't suppose that's too bad since I usually don't spam hotkeys or anything of the sort. Well I'm guilty of spamming in the first few minutes of the game due to boredom.

When BWChart first came out I used to be fixated on obtaining a high APM. While in that stage it was unusual for me to be below 150, nothing special, but I wasn't really learning anything. I remember I used to have a pretty high null count then. I think my skill was in a downward spiral during that phase. APM outweighed my strategical thinking.

After my little addiction to trying to obtain high APM I realized it really didn't mean that much and I started to try focusing on making efficient clicks and what not and I actually seemed to be improving. My mind seemed to be more at ease and I was making less mistakes.

Not too long ago I annihilated a Zerg user who clearly didn't have the fundamentals of the game down. I checked out some stats in BWChart to discover he had an APM of 200+, I found that fairly funny.

It's been said a thousand times before in this forum but APM definitely shouldn't mark your skill level. Sure most of the best players generally have 200+ APM but there's players out there with APM's below 200 that can still give them a run for their money. A good example would be Testie.

average APM: 248
based on 336 games
average game duration in those games: 15:59
hotkeypercentage about 20-25%, (30-35% in tvz)
I had this apm pre-bwchart too.

Max-APM is absolutely totally USELESS. It varies from like 200 to 600 depending on what kind of curve you use (flat/dynamic), and those maxes are about always where u spam hotkeys, or where u press move desperately to save a unit or something. It doesn't have anything at all to do with speed/skills.

If you want to get fast: FORGET ABOUT APM k? if anything, it probably slows u down. Instead, try to be effective when u play, and don't waste clicks. Thats what really make u faster.

Skills > speed > apm > apm-max

~140 apm toss and ~170 apm terran

Here's my recent take on apm. It's useless to compare skill between players, but a good measure that you can use to judge how well *you* are playing in a given game. For example, if I get 200 apm in a tvz it probably means I played very well for myself. Or if I get 120 apm it means I probably sucked / played worse than my usual norm. But you can't extend this at all to comparing different players.

play terran, have about 120-150 i think
been a while since i check, and i REALLY don't care.
if you have enough clicks to do what you want to do, then that's fine.

zerg 80-105 apm average.
i am probably the slowest player on in this thread

but i think its no problem for me to go 150 apm every game by clicking 4 times for every action.
( atm i am mostly clicking 1-2 times for an action.)
yesterday i played a funny ZvsT.
i went lurker/ling and he normal 2 rax academy.
he went out with his m&m army, i flanked him with 3 lurks and 10 lings and game was over after 6 minutes
I noticed that he just send his m&m towards my base in attack mode without looking at them.

after the game he said that he was just buisy with his base and did not look after his m&m
casue he thought they will not be attacked till they reach my sunkens.
the guy had about 110 apm and me 97 apm.

and i thought yeah ,well 110 apm for doing nothing than building m&m and few supply depots.
50 apm would have been enough to do the same^^

Wrong :O
Try playing, say, PvZ then do 4 5 6 7 8 9 0 key to gateways, 123 for units and go attack while constantly setting 4 dragoon rally 5 zealot rally 6 templar rally etc all to where your army is, and you have to update the rally points non stop.

That is WAY more than 180 apm

i still don't understand what is this APM freaking about, a Toss/Terran user with 150 APM(for Zerg +20 more maybe) wisely spent doesn't need no more, if u guys click 1,2,3,1,2,3 or so, uselessly than you should think if u are playing a strategy game or a who is the best clicker game. Though FA's reply tells there is a way to have more(effectively), but i don't think u set rally for those buildings 3 times a minute. And later if u have like 20 gateways it can increase apm a bit, but i still don't think the average needed would be above 150.

it really changes. i can sometimes have around 190 and the next game going up to 300+. i guess that the reason is that when i know that i am gonna win i dont care about playing my best, and also when i have a strat for the whole game i dont care as much about my macro.

Depends if online or offline and what match im playing - TvT I dont need much more than 200, TvP is a bit more and TvZ needs 250.I never ever had 284 apm in an online game(longer than 5 mins..), but had it vs RRB in a 26 min. game on WCG.
Average APM from WCG - 244.

There is one more thing that you need to remember when you check apm =)
APM distribution -> Hotkeys
APM * Hotkeys = speed with which you move your mouse
There is no player in the world which have more than 200 this characteristic
300 apm with 33% hotkeys = 400 apm with 50% hotkeys = 220 apm with 10% hotkeys = 200

As a Terran userv i have about 250 apm in 95% games.
IMHO Apm means nothing but with 100 apm you are not able do some stuff like some nice constant harrass during major battle with constant macroing and microing that battle. And so on.

My regular games are 150ish. Sometimes lower. Sometimes higher.

Yep, imo, 150 apm is sufficient enough to try to do almost everything. Strategy is what is important. Nal_ra has relatively low apm (at least before), but can you not admire his plays?

I looked at the library of my replays and my APM avg is 227 all zerg. I looked at just games within the last couple of months and my avg apm is only 180 :/ I'm slowing down w/ old age I guess :-)
Being a marine is great and all but I really wish that I could be a zergling...

Z 170/210 this is pure apm without unnecessary klicking depends if it's boring game or action game ^^ and I think this is enough why? because with this apm I can control everything I have to (for now) T_T

APM definitely matters actually. The more you play, the higher APM you'll naturally have IMO assuming you're constantly trying to improve. I really feel uncomfortable if I'm ever not doing anything in SC so I don't even see how people can say that above 150 apm is unnecessary clicks. The higher APM your opponent has, the higher I often have to try to attain since usually they're the ones using it to their advantage with harrassing, microing, macroing during battle, etc. You may have lower APM during your practice games but during serious games against someone with hard core micro/macro or harrassment, I'm pretty sure your APM will be pretty damn high. I recall my average apm was probably less than 100 during most games but against some serious competition, it ups significantly.

130-150 P user. My apm has gone up maybe 10 since BWChart was released. I credit that to myself improving as a player, not being affected by the apm craze. I will have games where I get up to about 170-180 or so, but the average always stays in the mid/low 100s.

The focus should be to be more effective with you have, not trying as hard as you can to get your numbers up. I can't even begin to name off all of the players I've seen with rather high apms who were still nothing more than average skilled.

My terran is usually around 180-250 (used to be a steady 290-300). Toss is closer to 150-170 and I've broken 200 with zerg once. My zerg is usually closer to 120-150.

Avg APM high was a 10 minute tvz game on neo gamei with 401. That won't ever happen again =/

And people who said "who cares?" and then flaming stuff, or people like the guy above me who despise apm threads, this isn't a thread where we're trying to prove how apm reflects skill or not. The creator just asked for the number. Lighten up a little. =/

160 APM +/- 20 I'm Zerg player. I don't do clicking like hotkey between Overlords. My APM rises dramatically when I'm using Mutalisk harass and trying to Macro at the same time

Like 130 with toss and 150 with zerg, but so what? Echo, a 1700+ NeoGamei has 110 and is still a fantastic player.

Before I quit last year, I was pulling about 170~180 Toss, that's with out all that unless clicking in the first 3 mins like everyone else seems to do. Yesterday I got on to play with the friends and was only pulling about 110~120.

Hello,

Maybe somebody said something quite like Im going to say now, but I didn't follow the whole topic from the beginning.

The main problem with APM is that many players trying to get as high as possible, but they are archiving this goal following wrong way. Some people try to remember, that they have to be fast during the whole game. Not only to increase the average APM, but they also follow the simple logic, that higher APM leads to victory.

The result of such behavior is a game with really high APM, but full of stupid repetive-clics, or even more stupid selects (1,2,3,1,2,3), etc.

If you wish to be faster, try another way. For start, try to make your APM as slow as it is possible. Try to reduce the amount of stupid clics. When you are sending a scouting peon click once on the target location. If you are trying to reach some raising builng with that peon click once near the location. I saw that many people clicks dozen times for a single move. It will increase your APM, but I won't make the peon go any faster. The same thing about any moves.

Try to achieve as low APM is it is possible. Of course not by waiting a second between every gateway selection/goon build command, but reduction of unnececery clics. Just analize your games and find any redundant actions, that you could live without. When you achieve this not try to go be faster. Not by stupid repetition, but just make faster all things you already do.

You can have APM like 200, but after removal of all stupid actions it may turns out, that you really are about 70. Not because you are slow, but because you waste your time on mindless clicks.

Stupid moves give you 250 APM, but you will be owned by somebody with 150, who dont do crappy clicks.
