But interestingly enough, I do admit I reach peaks during the time when I'm most focused in SC, and lowest when I'm restarting to play SC after quitting SC (thanks to games like Pokemon, CS, Diablo II, WC3, Dragon Raja, RO, GB, PS2 games, school, etc.) but that doesn't mean much. =/ The most significant APM measurement would be between *major* battles and whether it's consistent with the rest of the APM rating... and ironically enough, players with superior micro skills or those who win the battle might have a lower APM than their opponent at that time (as for macro, it's really not necessary to smash "z" or whatever a hundred times... buildings have only so many queues, and you'll probably only want to queue two at most, unless you're wealthy). Oh, before the "hahastoopid u pobly only hvae 40mxa amp neway haha" starts, I have a game jsut barely over 11 minutes that has an average of 944 APM, 941 VAPM, and 1142 Max APM - more reasons on precisely why I think APM is BS. Or how about an observer having up to 2.5 times higher APM than the participants (which there's been increasing sightings of observers with insane APM rates). Or the possibility of having a mere, say 50 or so APM and beating a, say, a ladder finalist with 300+ APM? But that's just me. =)

the more important thing is how accurately you click and press. this has been stated many times yes? a lot of the actions that pro gamers do are useless clicking.

Yeah, Koreans in Korea do study English so they can speak some of it on a basic level. He's: - From South Korea - Plays Terran - His name is XellOs2yG - His APM is looks to be around Xellos's APM - His post doesn't reflect alot of English. He post in a topic that doesn't require alot of understanding of English - His first post here, right after WCG ended and promising manifesto that he'd come post in the forums. (Xellos wouldn't lie would he?) It makes sense that Xellos would come post here right after he is eliminated from OSL because he has more free time unlike before when even he admitted in his interview that he had so little time to prepare for his matches vs Reach, which is exactly what seem to have happened. This all comes together to make alot of sense. But who knows...that might be or might not be the real Xellos

I don't suppose that's too bad since I usually don't spam hotkeys or anything of the sort. Well I'm guilty of spamming in the first few minutes of the game due to boredom. When BWChart first came out I used to be fixated on obtaining a high APM. While in that stage it was unusual for me to be below 150, nothing special, but I wasn't really learning anything. I remember I used to have a pretty high null count then. I think my skill was in a downward spiral during that phase. APM outweighed my strategical thinking. After my little addiction to trying to obtain high APM I realized it really didn't mean that much and I started to try focusing on making efficient clicks and what not and I actually seemed to be improving. My mind seemed to be more at ease and I was making less mistakes. Not too long ago I annihilated a Zerg user who clearly didn't have the fundamentals of the game down. I checked out some stats in BWChart to discover he had an APM of 200+, I found that fairly funny. It's been said a thousand times before in this forum but APM definitely shouldn't mark your skill level. Sure most of the best players generally have 200+ APM but there's players out there with APM's below 200 that can still give them a run for their money. A good example would be Testie.

based on 336 games average game duration in those games: 15:59 hotkeypercentage about 20-25%, (30-35% in tvz) I had this apm pre-bwchart too. Max-APM is absolutely totally USELESS. It varies from like 200 to 600 depending on what kind of curve you use (flat/dynamic), and those maxes are about always where u spam hotkeys, or where u press move desperately to save a unit or something. It doesn't have anything at all to do with speed/skills. If you want to get fast: FORGET ABOUT APM k? if anything, it probably slows u down. Instead, try to be effective when u play, and don't waste clicks. Thats what really make u faster. Skills > speed > apm > apm-max

Here's my recent take on apm. It's useless to compare skill between players, but a good measure that you can use to judge how well *you* are playing in a given game. For example, if I get 200 apm in a tvz it probably means I played very well for myself. Or if I get 120 apm it means I probably sucked / played worse than my usual norm. But you can't extend this at all to comparing different players.

i am probably the slowest player on in this thread ![]() but i think its no problem for me to go 150 apm every game by clicking 4 times for every action. ( atm i am mostly clicking 1-2 times for an action.) yesterday i played a funny ZvsT. i went lurker/ling and he normal 2 rax academy. he went out with his m&m army, i flanked him with 3 lurks and 10 lings and game was over after 6 minutes I noticed that he just send his m&m towards my base in attack mode without looking at them. after the game he said that he was just buisy with his base and did not look after his m&m casue he thought they will not be attacked till they reach my sunkens. the guy had about 110 apm and me 97 apm. and i thought yeah ,well 110 apm for doing nothing than building m&m and few supply depots. 50 apm would have been enough to do the same^^

The focus should be to be more effective with you have, not trying as hard as you can to get your numbers up. I can't even begin to name off all of the players I've seen with rather high apms who were still nothing more than average skilled.

Maybe somebody said something quite like Im going to say now, but I didn't follow the whole topic from the beginning. The main problem with APM is that many players trying to get as high as possible, but they are archiving this goal following wrong way. Some people try to remember, that they have to be fast during the whole game. Not only to increase the average APM, but they also follow the simple logic, that higher APM leads to victory. The result of such behavior is a game with really high APM, but full of stupid repetive-clics, or even more stupid selects (1,2,3,1,2,3), etc. If you wish to be faster, try another way. For start, try to make your APM as slow as it is possible. Try to reduce the amount of stupid clics. When you are sending a scouting peon click once on the target location. If you are trying to reach some raising builng with that peon click once near the location. I saw that many people clicks dozen times for a single move. It will increase your APM, but I won't make the peon go any faster. The same thing about any moves. Try to achieve as low APM is it is possible. Of course not by waiting a second between every gateway selection/goon build command, but reduction of unnececery clics. Just analize your games and find any redundant actions, that you could live without. When you achieve this not try to go be faster. Not by stupid repetition, but just make faster all things you already do. You can have APM like 200, but after removal of all stupid actions it may turns out, that you really are about 70. Not because you are slow, but because you waste your time on mindless clicks. Stupid moves give you 250 APM, but you will be owned by somebody with 150, who dont do crappy clicks.
