Poll: What race should I main?Glorious Protoss Master Race (37) 42% Idralistic Zerg (30) 34% Terran Op (22) 25% 89 total votes Your vote: What race should I main? (Vote): Terran Op (Vote): Glorious Protoss Master Race (Vote): Idralistic Zerg
Title says it all. I got to diamond with Zerg and flip flopped between Zerg and Protoss for a while before I stopped playing for about two months. Now that i'm back i'm still having trouble deciding what race I want to use. Use the poll and if you'd like post reasons for why I should pick the race you chose. Despite the poll I may be swayed if I get some particularly good arguments, so don't feel like it's pointless to use one. Eventually i'll post the race i've chosen in this thread. Thanks everyone! (despite the names in the poll i'm not being biased, I'm just trying to be funny)

I voted Protoss. oGsMC does wonders with it. Nice dynamic range of units and capabilities. Looks badass. War of the Worlds.

I play Terran, and I'd suggest them. Taking aside any bs about races being OP, or easy, or all that crap (as it will either be fixed or it shouldn't effect your decision.) I started off playing Toss back in the Beta, and had a ton of fun with them. Nice opportunities both macro and micro wise, the ability to be aggressive or defensive. However as the beta ended and I hit retail, I got bored of them. It probably had something to do that whatever I did it had to include gateway units. Successful strats of 2 gate robo, 3 gate robo, 4 gate, 1 gate FE, 2 gate starport, etc. Always the gateways, and honestly, I found that boring. So I moved to Terran. I feel like there are just more options as Terran, more openness in what you can do. Admittedly this was back when things like ghost/mech was viable against toss, but I feel the point still remains. The only really core unit is marines, and even then if you're creative you can completely bypass them and use other mineral sinks like hellions. On top of that I love the mirror matchup (and see it as by far the best mirror in the game). It's dynamic and shifting, and isn't the hell of ZvZ (not speaking from experience, rather what I read constantly here) and the litteral mirror action of PvP. You should get tanks, but if you want to play a different style you can MmM and abuse the mobility. You can go heavy ground and rely on zel'naga towers to give vision for your tanks (negating their vikings temporarily). You can focus on the air, have few tanks to defend, and use your air control to win. Overall I find it just as fun as any other matchup, instead of that 'oh god' I got when I hit a PvP.
Just my 2c, don't take them as gospel (only a mid level diamond), but they are what I have experienced. And please don't bring balance into this.

Ask yourself if you like losing in SC2. Then you can decide what race you wanna play. I don't enjoy losing games so you can assume what race I play

When you see pro matches, what race do you most often sympathize with? I know it depends on the player too of course but the race that you most often cheer for is most often the best one suited for you.
Usually for me anyway, although i admit i cheered for Nestea when he played MarineKingPrime in the finals GSL Season 2

You go toss if you want people cheering for you like...

For me though, choosing would be based upon how much "fun" I have with a race versus how much I want to win. In my case, I chose toss because it was more balanced in that department.

I am trying to go through the same process, I think maybe choosing a race will help me improve much quicker, especially now that I am in the masters league as random . For the past 100+ games I have been keeping track of my win rate with each race, did you try this? I found some surprising results, in beta I originally mained Terran before going all random since release. Now my terran win percentage is like 45, while my zerg and toss are more like 65. I suggest keeping track of these and see what happens. I still can't decide between toss and zerg, was going to do toss but I really hate pvp..zzzz.

Protoss mirror is a pain, if you pick zerg you'll just get all-inned non-stop. Go Terran!
|
It kinda depends on what style you like to play. If you like harassing you should pick terran. If you like more of a strong 1 punch late game army pick protoss.

Since you started playing terran you'll have a higher MMR when you start with terran, and then when you start losing as whatever race, you'll face easier opponents etc.

No, I'll give you a hint. The alphabet that the race starts with is T. =)

Pretty much this. I play Protoss, but seems Terran/Zerg are so much more fun/inventive to play/watch. More options to harass etc.

If you're not sure which race you like best, play random! Eventually you'll either start liking one more than the others, or you won't, in which case you can just stick with random.
