She was planned to be a minor throw away character originally in sc1. She was originally supposed to just die when she got left behind.
So the intricate story of SC1 was just a fluke? That explains the SC2 story and storytelling...

One reason why the portrait of Kerrigan and the CG version of Kerrigan is so different is in what I said.
The portrait is 2D, the CG version is 3D. Now, that being said, they are SEVERELY different even considering that. But the picture that Raynor has of Kerrigan is quite different as well. So who knows.
To anyone who is saying Kerrigan is a late addition: What the fuck? Kerrigan is HUGELY important in every single campaign. I don't know what you guys are talking about. Blizzard is damn good, but I don't think they are so good to add a "late addition" into the campaign so flawlessly and with such great importance in the story.

In an interview on Sclegacy, Chris Metzen admits that Kerrigan's role in the original SC1 campaign was only added during the later stages of development. But, yeah they still did a good job with it. You can note that Kerrigan is quite absent in the Protoss campaign of vanilla SC. She really was supposed to be a minor character at first.

cinematic kerrigan portrait = attractive
honestly when i get to 1000 terran games won.. im not even going to use nova's stupid portrait.. both zerg and toss have badass portraits lol.
and this is why i don't use my kerrigan portrait, she is bland and dull. same goes for just about every terran portrait... they need some kind of expression.

the 2d portrait is a 3d rendered shot... im just saying, no one sat there and drew a perfectly looking 3d model in 2d with a graphics tab. they would have touched it up after the shot was taking...
so in saying that.. why couldn't they grab the 3d model from the cinematic and use that for their shot..

And what's with the fucking goliath and vulture portraits. WHO WOULD EVER THINK THOSE GOGGLE THINGS are even REMOTELY COOL? So awful.
The goliath got absolute butchered in terms of the unit itself, the portrait, and the voice. =(
