The hackers have all the advantages early so I'm not really surprised by this. The longer a game is around the harder it gets to hack because they find more and more of the security holes and fix them.

Seriously, if you're caught hacking, perma ban. There's no reason not to do this.

They need a ZERO tolerance policy. Too many times in too many games (XBox live is notorious) they slap these people on the wrist over and over. They just keep doing it! They need to BAN their accounts permanently the first time cheating is confirmed.
This is the only way to clean it up. Make the punishment severe. Another option would be to use all the stuff in the EULA about how blizzard can do what it wants with your personnel information. If you cheat then we give your Phone number and Address to everyone you cheated. If these people are unafraid of serious repercussions the problems will get worse and worse. I personally think everyone who gets cheated should join together in a class action lawsuit against the cheaters and sue for half the cost of the game. Because these scumbags are ruining a lot of peoples gaming experience.
But I'm sure the first option would suffice. When these little babies go whining to their mommies that they need another 60$ to buy the same game they already bought. I bet their will be a few astute parents who start asking questions. Or just flat out say "NO WAY!"

Deep down you know we all dream of doing this

Ya, maphack sucks but at least its not an instant gg button. The best think to do is to just report suspicious case to Blizzard and let Blizzard know that we want a robust anti cheating system. If enough people voice their stance on this then Blizzard will surely try harder.

Personally, I try not to get too angry when getting noobed by hack. The way I see it, they will never truly enjoy the game. Also set me a challenge to improve my timing and scouting to a point where it doesn't matter if ppl hack or not (Obviously, still working on this :D)

As a (lead) programmer on many shipped games I can confidently say you can prevent hackers with proper programming. Simple as this: don't transmit data to a player about units in fog. Then, run dedicated servers rather than peer to peer connections so there is no listen server. This is done in HoN and works fine.

The problem is blizz sends information about the other players in the game to you for performance reasons -- sending information about units as soon as they bust out of fog causes problems under laggy conditions -- stuff won't appear until the packets arrive and are processed. In Blizz games, you know about those units while in fog to prevent the lag, but this allows map hack to happen.

Personally I'd take no map hack mode for ladder matches then shut it off for tournaments where you can see that the person isn't hacking to get the better performance.

it's really hard to prevent things like map hacks. the reason is, hackers already identify it as a worthy exploit, so every time its patched, they'll make a new hack. even without proof, i believe your situation is true for the above reasons. during beta, hackers probably didn't care much to exploit the game because of constant patching and lower player base, but i'm sure a few groups will go all out on this game now. fortunately, 99.9% of hackers are bad

I have yet to encounter it, but I've been accused and reported to Blizzard 4 times already for hacking
The first was for walling in as Terran in one of my placement matches >_>
The second and third were just because of observer coverage
The fourth was because I was trying really hard that game to keep my stalkers active throughout the map, and I found a guy's proxied Stargate, then later his hidden Gold expansion.

I really wish people would at least just watch the replays before freaking out about this stuff.
Man, do I not keep this up to date, or what?

Hopefully reported people who are found "guilty" will have their accounts suspended/banned to set an example.

People who hack aren't doing themselves any favors. When Blizzard does catch them hacking they will need to purchase a new copy of the game so GG to them.

That was a really good job by Blizzard, but an anti-hack-check at the start of every game would be way better!

Yea, hackers take more time looking at your base. Play on. Its pretty much no biggie unless you're going to do some mega cheese.

If you find anyone in nz hacking point me to where/who they are and i can roll them for you irl <3 i agree tho it should be instant perma ban, not sure why people want to use maphacks and such i mean sure your top of your ladder or w/e and win a game or two ....... but its not going to get you to JD/Flash level of gaming thats what the hard work and practice are for.

I think map hacks are always going to be a thorn in the side of honest players, I've not encountered them in Starcraft 2 yet, but its unfortunate to see they're becoming available already. Hopefully they will not become very widespread.

So long as Blizzard committ to policing battle.net and keep releasing regular patches I am confident that map hacks will not become a huge problem.

Once Blizzard start banning people and potential hackers realise they've thrown $60 down the drain hacks will be used less and less. Hack that annoys me most though is in BW, the drop hack. People would use it heaps in UMS maps. I mean wtf?

Man, they should adopt the same Anti hack proof like WoW, there r several bot for WoW but they get detected in like a day or so, and I think if blizzard did somethin like that for SC2 it would be better. I also think an IP BAN and a HWID Ban would be the best

I wonder if Blizzard would be able to get their warden program to detect public map hacks automatically.

After all they could essentially download it themselves and see what it looks like on their computers and have warden identify it in the computer's working memory.
The person who says it cannot be done, should not interrupt the person doing it.

I've played a (confirmed, at least in my book) map hacker in retail already. Blizzard tracks everything you do. Every third party app you're running in the background they are privy to. It's incredibly invasive DRM that I am principally opposed to. However, if there's ONE upside to having your privacy violated, it should be a guaranteed cheat-free gaming enviroment. Blizzard needs to deal with these losers, and deal with them adequately (i.e. permanent banning).
You can figure out the other half.

The sad part is that the good discrete hackers will be able to play throughout the only available league in starcraft without anyone knowing. Just having a revealed minimap is really sufficient to having a huge advantage and if the hack is private then there's nothing anyone can do to stop that.

Hopefully blizzard will utilize banwaves as they've done in diablo and wow, that way when 50'000 people get banned simultaneously it really sends a message.
