ScienceRob, stop threatening to find where people live. Have you ever broke into a stash house before? How well did that go?

Uhh, what?

This is the most retarded post of the thread.

And that is saying something.

That wasn't my point diamond. My point is the chances of someone picking your house to bulgarize is quite low (this is saying a lot as I have lived in some shitty apartments) yet the majority of people, and I would speculate you as well, still lock the door when you leave.

I know why I lock the door when I leave. I know that if I don't lock it I will be fine, most likely, but there is no point in taking a chance.

You're not forced. You willingly post on the forums knowing that your name will be revealed. Forum is a privilege, not a right.

costumer service forums? tech support? sometimes you have to post.

You are afraid of mortal retribution for customer service and tech support posts?

And even then, you obviously have non-forum options. You could contact the company directly, or post your tech problems on TL.

You are pretty savvy with internet privacy there are thousands that arent also ignoring the massive facebook privacy fuckups recently.

Having said that though I wouldnt go getting involved in too many fights or that love for "violent games" and MMA may be useful information for someone. I could find your Twitter account, your MMA blog and your TL account which would then lead onto your ustream accounts and casts. I also appear to have found a picture of your parents house. That was found pretty quickly and you know what you are doing though I would advise not using the same identifier everywhere.

I'm about as calm of a person in real life as you can get. The last true fight I got in was when I was in 5th grade. Nice try though.

My Twitter is all over the place: twitter.com/iccupdiamond
my MMA blog is now defunct so good job with that.

And you found a picture of a house. Wow. I live in a city with probably 20k houses. So yea....

Diamond,

With all due respect, get over yourself. It might be fine for you, but other people depend on keeping their information private.

Legal information can almost certainly affect your future employability. Medical information as well. And that's just things that can be done legally. Much worse things can be done outside formal employment. For example the medical history of a HIV patient being made public will most certainly mean that he will get socially ostracised.

Just because nothing has happened to you does not mean everyone else will enjoy the same luck.

iCCup.Diamond that is like saying that closing your doors is paranoid behaviour. I mean what the chances are that somebody will assume that they are open, and will try to enter? Is it really that much lower then being spammed by somebody for no good reason?

That is not how odds work, the only relevant thing is how many people will read your post on BN. Making post on other forums don't influence that.

I don't see what prevents people from just searching names on the government public database records.

Finding things like divorce documents, mortgages, marriages, siblings, criminal cases, etc. can be found pretty much instantaneously.

this is as far as people need to go. a guy doesn't have to carry out your 4-6 in order to mess things up for you. thats the point people are trying to make, also that 1-3 are really really easy to do

I will concede that I have never lived in any bad part of a city, merely in a very cheap apartment several times. My point remains the same, even if it is reduced to a selective group of homes that do not require locking but are locked never the less.

People can do this anywhere to anybody, though. If you were in the newspaper or a high school newsletter for honour roll, they can slap your name into Google.

Please don't try and tell me the odds of a burglar breaking in your house to rob it are as low as the scenario you are all laying out. Cause I GUARANTEE you have a MUCH better chance of getting your shit broke into than a b.net forum rage nerd flying several states if not multiple countries to hunt you down based off of material they found online.

You realize based off the info you guys got off my name you would be looking for me int he wrong city right?

quote]How about your medical and legal information? Maybe you wouldn't even care about those, but a lot of others might. It's not hard to think of a scenario where you can completely fuck someone over by releasing that information. And believe it or not, there are gamers who can get that info. And don't think all of those people are going to be mature or responsible (although they should be).

What do you want to know. I suffered from a ruptured spleen in second grade and had it removed. I than had a Slipped capital femoral epiphysis when I was 19 and had 3 surgeries to correct it. One was the cutting of my femur in half to reposition my leg. I suffer from chronic arthritis from having my leg cut in half and all so I am a medicinal marijuana user. Other than that I only have had minor bumps and bruises over my life and that's my cliffnotes medical history.

What more you want?

Diamond, you're a good guy, but I really think you arn't thinking this through.
I for example in my last job was capable with no paper trail to me, kill a person's internet with just a name. I had in fact looked up multiple of my wow guildies internet connections who I was good friends with back in the day to see what they're connections were like when I was bored at work.
If I were inclined, after being pissed off at somebody over the internet, I could just go through and cap their connection with an admin tag to not be removed without explicit admin permission. it would be burried, they may complain about their speed, it would go through endless paperwork and get buried for up to 3 months, at which point it would be restored to normal, when I'd just do it again, so how would you like to be unable to play any games, stream, or even watch youtube on your connection at all because you pissed off the wrong person on the internet?

Condesing ScienceRob's analogy.

Keeping your name safe is liking locking your door. It's highly unlikely that you'll be burglarized, and they could get in anyways if they really wanted, but you lock your door anyways to be safe.
