That's not linked to your online activities outside of work. Start putting all your online aliases on your business card and then it might be a fair comparison.

I has your business address on it and your business phone number and business email. At least mine does. I give it to who I want to give it to. And why do I care if anyone knows this info? I will tell ANYONE why I love MMA and why it's awesome. I had my leg chopped in half so I'm legally allowed to use pot for pain medicine and I don't play WoW.

What's to stop me from googling your name and phone number? I bet I could find your home address in a phone book, online or paper. If you don't want to be associated with your 10-hour wow habit, don't post about your 10-hour wow habit on the official wow forums. Maybe confine yourself to tech support and customer service stuff.

You don't care about people knowing your personal information. Other people do.

I suppose it would be pretty cool if all the ESPORTS guys all created new Bnet accounts and made their names ESPORTS ESPORTS and started posting all over the official boards.

In a lot of fields, your employer knowing you smoke pot is going to make you much less likely to get hired. If you work as a bouncer for a club, then whatever. If you work as an elementary school teacher and that information is readily available it can ruin your career.

If someone wanted to get into your house they could whether you locked the door or not, they could actually go through your locked door if they really wanted to. But you don't seem to be worried about that, so why are you so worried about this? If you dont lock your house then the insurance wont pay for anything stolen. The same if you dont lock your car. Yea you could say what is the point of locking it when i have glass windows but insurances and burglars dont see it quite that way.

If you don't want your name on their forums, just don't post on them. See but that decision shouldnt be there. At least not because of your name. Like I decide whether to be part of a community if I think its cool or not. I dont make the decision based on whether I want everyone to know my real name. It just doesnt make sense. It is not just about the forum Today, we wanted to give you a heads up about our plans for Real ID on our official forums, discuss the design philosophy behind the changes we’re making, I don´t think that´s the end of realid

Customer privacy should be at the top of any businesses agenda. Its not simply an issue about some disgruntled person coming to find you, its more about the avenues that sharing your full name with the internet brings. Think back to the days when people would just type their e-mails out directly, what happened then? There were spam bots that crawled any public forums, and would start spamming you with horrendous amounts of junk mail. With your real name displayed, whats to stop said company from finding your address, which can easily be obtained from just your name, e-mail address and a few other easily discoverable items, and start sending you unwanted mail, try to commit identify fraud, try to vote on your behalf, try to take a mortgage on your name. All of these things while they sound far fetched are within the realm of possibilities. Then there is always the issue of what to do about minors, those above the age of 13, but not above 18, who is going to protect their privacy? In summary, I believe blizzard is making a huge mistake with this and if it goes through in its unaltered state they will definitely reap the consequences when their "community" shrinks accordingly.

As I said I wouldnt get into too many fights they might not see your love for MMA in the same way. Or if an ex girlfriend with an axe to grind accuses you of hitting her. Its just an example of how your internet trail can be used against you.

Even in this day and age gamers will retain that stigma of being lazy to a degree. I don't have to extrapolate this anymore do I? Many people want to keep their real life segregated from their online life. It is quite simple and easy. I think you are intelligent enough to try to see where other people are coming from and understand why they are feeling the way they feel. Than why post on the b.net forums. Avoid them and use TL. Seems pretty basic to me. It's not like they hire someone to hold a gun to your head until you post on there.
