Not everyone is named John Smith man...

If you are concerned about it, simply don't post in their REALID FORUMS.
Problem solved.

What if my real life name was Willie Stroker?
I thumbs down this idea

I just googled my name. Sound weird I know. But what came up was f'd up, my facebook link was there, plus a list of a few of my friends full names who I know for a fact don't care about anonymity, but does that leave them open to people finding out info about them and doing what ever they want with it? By giving your name out you can potentially effect people around you.

Obviously, this fixes the problem. Still, some people would like to be heard.

Take them to court if you feel that the reason they did not hire you was because of a google search. They would have to explain the detail of your decline to the judge with ample proof and if it is not sufficient enough proof to back their reason, you have yourself a successful lawsuit .. This is the naive view of what's going on. Practically speaking, many employers use google/facebook to find out information about applicants. Furthermore, they don't have to mention to you when you are "no hired" that they did such a search on you name. Even furthermore, there's a strong argument to be made that information via google/facebook is publicly available and thus admissible in such decisions (analogous to how an employer can judge you if you come drunk to an interview vs. professing your love of keggers and frat parties on your facebook page). Admissible in regards to the potential employer searching up your name in google and finding out information, yes. Using that said information to deny you from employment is not. The denial of employment would need to always be based on a specifc aspect in which the employer finds that either, you are not qualified for the position in which you are applying for or the position you are applying for is no longer open due to a sudden or non sudden change in business needs or the position was filled. Following under the assumption that some other members of the forum have in regards to this predicament can be applied to anything else on the web. They can google your name, find out that you won 1st place in a chess tournament and you think that if the person making hiring decisions doesn't like chess (because their father died to choking on a chess piece or something ridiculous like that), can deny you from employment soley because you play chess? I'm sorry homie but that's discrimination and is definitely against the law if it's used to deny you from employment. If you feel that you have a case in which you were denied employment because of that, then as I said, you can bring them to court. If they have proof that your decision of being hired was not based on that or you have no proof otherwise, how can you blame a forums about Starcraft being the reason you were not hired? The real world operates differently to how it is supposed to. Companies are supposed to employ people without bias to gender, race, age and many other things but reality is very different and its very difficult to prove. Much better to just not provide them with the ammunition in the first place.

Well it should kill a lot of the trolling.

Problem solved. All of their forums will be realid. We basically don't have any way to give feedback without our names attached.

Yet another fail by Blizzard. Fail after fail. This is a time when almost everyone knows NOT to give out personal details unless they have no other choice.
I don't post on their official forums anyway and people will use fake identities. The most important thing here is how disappointingly stupid Blizzard are becoming.

Is it to much to ask to use your in game avatar on the game forum ;(

Every time someone asks a legitimate question about the change, their post is deleted...

Exactly man. Like I've said a couple times ... if you do a yellow page search on me only 3 results come up. 1 is some random guy, the other is myself and my dad. Gee I like those odds of them picking someone I would care to see not harrassed.

Wrong.
Please read the entire thread, or at least the last few pages.

i must be thick but doesn't that mean no minors will be allowed to post due to the risk involved? since sc2 is a game for a wide spectrum of players i don't get it at all i wouldn't let my kid give out his real name online .. and i doubt i'm the worst on the issue
of course it's the forum not the game, but still getting info and discussing the ins and outs of the game is a part of the fun, to not be able to do it in the company's forum seems counter intuitive, not to mention so stooopid from a commercial point of view anybody else thought of this or messaged blizz about it?

If you're stupid enough to put personal information on the internet anything further than your name you deserve all you get to be honest, I'm more than happy for people to know my name, it does not bother me, good luck trying to glean any further information from knowing it - even if you can get as far as figuring out which one of the many people I share my name with.

I'm. I don't know what to say. Such a rediculous reasoning.

haha so at first i was ok with this. really what is the downside to just showing your name on a forum? but then i tried a few things using my own name. the online yellow pages yielded the exact location of my house as well as phone number. when i googled my name the first link i got was another person with the same name as mine and their facebook account. apparently he is more popular than me =[. and when i switched google to images on the first page i found some old pictures of me from high school (they are actually kinda flattering =].) so overall this will definitely deter me from posting, but i still will probably post stuff that i really think deserves changing
