If the like whole 1000 nerds on the internet who canceled their pre-order actually had the power to DIRECTLY influence stockholders, we wouldn't even be in this predicament. You realize how fucking ludicrous that is? Activision stocks went up when MW2 boycott hit over 2 million signatures, then went down when MW2 was peaking 21 million sales. Stocks don't work like that lawls.

We'll be getting some form of chat channels, clans, and cross-server play post release. LAN is yet to be seen, but I'd put my money on there being something worked out in the end. What's with the hate against whining? I am pretty sure that if it were not for all that whining and complaining, Blizzard would never have made all those promises. And even if they already had plans for this (they stated they had none), they certainly raised in priority. There is a huge difference between whining and constructive criticism, and this community, the hardcore players, whines way too much, and it really overshadows the small amount of constructive feedback we give Blizzard. To me, at least, that doesn't seem like a good way to conduct ourselves. Do you really think the small amount of constructive criticism was the deciding factor? Which do you think a for-profit business cares more about, ten thousand people "whining" and saying they won't buy the game because chat channels aren't included, or one person giving constructive criticism by saying "the game is currently missing something, if you add chat channels maybe that would help"? Whining fixed this game. Do you really think a company with a target audience in excess of over 20 million people if you include customers lost to piracy in the original Starcraft cared about the internet rages of less then 10,000 people? Less then 1% of their target audience? .05% of their target audience? Get fucking real. No, if Blizzard listened to its vocal minority of fans, its because they felt that their complaints were legitimate complaints that could be extrapolated to harm the mass audience if left unfixed, and the alternatives they called for were at least somewhat practical and best for the long term success of the game, for reasons they may have previously overlooked. Stop simplifying and polarizing everything to shades of black and white. Blizzard is a company that makes money, but they way they've come to do this is by providing quality products with both niche and long term, as well as mass, appeal, as well as profitable business practices in development and management. Most of the communities goals are congruous with those goals. Blizzard "listens" to their community when a community member brings up a concern that is widely shared, and blizzard determines that concern to be both valid, and applicable to the games long term and short term success. Then, they internally develop a solution based on the general direction and non-specifics of ideas players have suggested. If Blizzard does not feel your complaint is legitimate, no mass pressure from a niche audience will appeal to them. This isn't strictly a business decision either. Blizzard is in the business of making good games, and making a game that has some degree of mass appeal is part of making good games. If I make a game and everyone says its shit but ONE GUY really likes it, should I feel incredibly content and happy as a game designer, persuading myself I made the best game ever with incredibly niche appeal? No, I haven't, and I'd be delusional to think that. Not only is it not profitable to implement things that go "against the grain", its also a decision I wouldn't want artistically and professionally as a designer.

Actually, it makes sense to not allow LAN at the start, but to implement it later, so as many ppl will buy it as possible before LAN pirating is available. (not sure how it would work, but w/e)

In WoW it makes a lot of sense, you can't allow people to constantly switch realms in a role playing game, that would be a mess. Simultaneously if you were never able to change realms it would also be annoying. Paid character transfer seems perfect. In SC2 there's really no harm in a player being able to play with people from other continents, he won't be able to get a cool axe from the US server and bring it back to Europe. Also Blizzard has stated latency as their main worry regarding cross realm play, it would seem rather shady for them to claim that a certain amount of money just makes it that much easier to transfer data around the world when they've done it in older games with a lot less money involved. I won't start throwing insults and begin being pessimistic just yet, maybe Activision isn't corrupting Blizzard but rather Activision is going to get changed by Blizzard, towards a better future? Let's hope so. ![]()

It says you will be able to (at a future date) change servers. It sounds like you'll be able to move your battle.net account to the EU or Asia server, similar to changing a WoW character to another server. It may even cost a few dollars and it may take 24 hours. So it's not quite cross-realm play necessarily.
