Each year, some countries stop sending bw players which is sad for the game and for the people, so it is nice to see a wcg qualifier that manages to gather that much people.

Your lack of knowledge hurts the eye, Puertorican...not that he didn't deserve the shit for being BM as he was, but you're no better. Plus, you lack real knowledge to throw shit around. Shut up, will ya?

Maybe have prelims to allow for a free trip, but allow people who want to come and play to do so if they want to as well. Its stupid to have these regionals and have some places be stacked and have others where no one shows up. THat combined with the online qualifier is dumb. I know this year as well as last year id have considered playing if i could just go to a regional or straight to the us finals. The online shit is bullshit, the regionals are a waste of time but at least you get to play in person and not online in some stupid ladder.

For some reason, I missed it when it was posted and today I was feeling kind of nostalgic so I google WCG Guatemala and this popped out. I am the leader of the StarCraft Community in Guatemala so I will answer the questions made, just because I can I guess: On September 04 2007 10:07 littlechava wrote: 70 people is pretty impressive O_O was there free food there or something? No free food =P, actually I had to contact personally each person to "show up" if I recall correctly the qualifications took place on an Internet Local (PC Bang as they are called in Korea). On September 04 2007 10:34 CaucasianAsian wrote: The only Guatamala player on ICCUP with any games in the past season is Nightmare.gt who might be Chivu in an AKA? How has Guatamala done in the past in WCG's? I can't seem to think of any players have a name for themselves. Nightmare was another player, and we never had a great run on the WCG, yet we were thankful to have the chance as many other countries with more skilled players weren't able to, as someone pointed out this was a sponsor issue, sponsors picked the games they were going to support, that is why I tried to "help" more the sponsors so I had a chance to convince them to pick StarCraft instead of FIFA for example. In 2006 if I am correct the sponsor picked FIFA and though hundred of players signed up only a few actually showed up, I told them we had around 80 players, and 70 showed up =). On September 04 2007 11:45 mAKiTO wrote: The sponsors in your country decide what games to give spots, technically I think every country has a spot in wcg for every game, they just need to find a sponsor EXACTLY! in my case, I manage to get closer to the sponsor by helping them reaching the players and that lets us have a Starcraft tournament. On September 04 2007 12:10 Manifesto7 wrote: That being said, what is the best way to get a spot in WCG? Have SEVENTY fucking people show up! Damn that is awesome, good job to whoever got the word out in that country. Keep it up! Thanks =P. To further explain, after I manage to become a collaborator of the sponsor I learned basically all the countries can send players, but then a sponsor on each country has to organize the qualifiers, in Guatemala for example the first place got travel to the Grand Finals, later I find out each country has 3 slots, so basically if I cover my expensed I could have traveled, the sad thing I find out this later when WCG was not longer taking place in my country. On September 04 2007 12:16 littlechava wrote: did you go beside? were all of them actual players or a bunch of guys who just wandered in there and decided to play? 70 is pretty ridiculous, especially for such a small bw country I contacted them, basically call every and each of them, sadly we don't have that many players anymore but we continue organizing events, currently, we have the Guatemala StarCraft II League with 21 players, and planning to start the next one in January 2021. The current league has a Prize Pool of USD $115, and we are aiming to get a similar prize pool for the next one, we don't have a sponsor yet but that is the plan =P. And ONLY ONE was chosen too. Very nice and good luck to Chivu Though this is an old post I am going to make sure chivu gets your message, he was the one that always defeated me but I am proud of having such a good player/person in our country.
