You have to keep hosting events regularly to get more regular funding, people are skeptical to donate to an event especially when they see discouraging posts like the one above. You have to be consistent and host tournaments even if the prize pool is just a few dollars, it will be hard, but it will grow over time.

Why do you need much of a prize pool at all? Just $50 or even much less is enough to get people to come. As long as the event is well run, fun to play, and has good coverage, there will be people and support. Heck, even a $0 prize pool can get people to come like with Red Clan Cups, or more notably the first couple of Clash For Char tournaments. It's all really about how you define your success, whether that be number of participants, viewer count, or something else.
And just like GGZerg said above, it's all about consistency. Clash For Char which was run by Qikz had $0 prize pools for the first three or four, but soon enough each one had a minimum $50-100 prize pool entirely crowdfunded.

I highly disagree. Majority of us are grown a** men and we can't be coming to events with 0 incentive... not when we all have to pay bills and take care of family/kids. If we want to play for fun or relaxation we do it in a certain specific time of our own that we can afford to. Having a prize pool atleast gives us an excuse to compete and free our schedual. Thats why I haven't been part of any team or clan war in a long long time. Another thing is I'm positive most of the best players don't even prepair well. For example me and tokyoa hadn't played a single game together in forever untill the tourney itself. If the prize was 1000$+ then we would have some motivation to train prior, talk through discord during the games and show the best of us. I'm sure this goes for majority of the better players. I don't even think EGO plays a big part anymore because who has to prove something? Dewalt? Eonzerg? Trutacz? Bonyth? etc... they all have shown their skill for years and they aren't going to get more hype or happy if they win some small prize pool tourney.

Lol... as a grown man I disagree with you, I don't expect a computer game to provide for myself or my family. And as a grown man I can also decide when I have time to participate and when I don't. But if you have a family and you expect a game like SC:rem to generate that much money that it starts paying your bills, then shit bro, u'r in for a real deep wake up call.
And I can tell you, that most of us that participate in these tournament don't even have a slight chance of getting anywhere near the prizepool. So for us it doesnt matter if its 1.000.000$ in the prizepool or nothing, we wouldnt see a penny anyways because the outcome is the same in every tournament. For some of us noobs CPL feels like participating in the olympics.
So I totally agree with Ty2 that tournaments like RCC without a prizepool plays an important part for the players outside the top10. And a well organized 1on1 tournament without a prizepool that is consistent would attract just as many if not more players then a 1on1 tournament that only focus solely on providing a prizepool for the top players. So the SC scene needs both types of tournament.

You either miss understood me or didn't read well. I don't need a wake up call because if I wanted to try something more with SC I would have done it in 2007. I don't expect starcraft to pay any of my bills and never have. My point was the free time that we do have we can't use for fun and games the way we could when we were youngsters. I was also talking about the higher tier players who actually have a shot at winning something and showing some skill. I doubt there will be much interest for a 0$ prize pool tourney with noobs. But then again thats why you guys got your CPL olympics and thats fine. Even if the prize pool isn't huge I garauntee you stakes and games will be 3x better than a no prizepool tourney. Thats why bsl although is only 1000$ it generates alot more interest than any other tourney and thats FACTS! If you want to put a blindfold its ok, I'm just telling you how it is.

You're toxic... quite often. Also too proud. Just keep it together, will u? You ain't winning anything anyway... Misunderstood is one word!

Thank you for correcting my spelling. I am a proud guy and I work hard on myself everyday. Maybe thats why I can get into top16 with no practice and you are a noname!!! If keeping it 100 and real is toxic nowadays maybe its because we have too many weak men like yourself who can't deal with reality.
|
And what precisely is the reality in question here? Seems to me a guy is trying to provide you and others with a stage to present your skills and enjoy the game you love (in a specific competitive context). Perhaps not ideal... but he's doing something. What do you do.. for the community? Provide much-needed feedback? Voice the perspective of the top-tier players.. as if they don't all have accounts on TL or are incapable of voicing their opinions alone? Who and where suggested that only top-tier players will make a tourney lively or worth playing anyway? You suggested that, and then took it for given. It is not just noobs or top players, the majority seem to float in-between, and they also compose an interesting event. You are quite correct - I am indeed a noname Would take that any day over having your name... which is synonymous with embarrassment. Furthermore one's point is true or false regarding one's standing. Your toxicity comes not in having a good point or a bad point, but in the way you present your point. Nobody claims you're wrong, unintelligent or unskilled in Starcraft. You got the wrong attitude, which serves to destroy things (or people's aspirations) and not to create such. You can just as easily accompany your criticism with some kind advice on how to realistically improve things, so that in the end the originator of the event can work towards the same aim as you. What if he starts small and over time it grows? What if it never grows, but proves to be valuable to others and the scene in general? Are you EVER open to seeing more than what you see at present.......
