Hi,

I'd just like to clarify a few points. I've been with TFL since the beginning. TFL has only officially OFFICIATED 2 events for WCG and that was in 2003. Specifically the Toronto qualifier and the Canadian Finals we provided the manpower to setup and referee the matches. TFL was helping out the community and received NO compensation for those events in terms of money OR prizes. The accusation that we would take prizes from players for ourselves and sell them is COMPLETELY FALSE. I personally know Fernando Aspiazu and I know he would not make such a statement that TFL took any prizes for themselves. It was probably a misunderstanding as he was aware of the fact TFL was in no way responsible for prize distribution.

The unfortunate fact that some players never received prizes for a WCG event was never confirmed to me by any of the players. As far as I understood it some players received their prizes months later and TFL assisted working with the players and WCG to ensure prizes were shipped. To reiterate, TFL has never been responsible for the delivery or awarding of prizes by any 3rd party organization. I can say with confidence that each and every event TFL runs itself has awarded cash and prizes on-site which can been verified by looking at our photo gallery (www.torontofunleague.com/photo).

In 2004 TFL did not run any events on behalf of WCG. A few TFL volunteers who helped in 2003 did help out in 2004 but it was a separate undertaking on each of the members involved and in no way associated with TFL. I was one of the coordinators who travelled to various events in the US and Mexico. It was strictly a private undertaking for the travel and experience. Each individual, myself included, were paid to travel and setup these tournaments at various locations as dicated by WCG. Once again I'd like to state that we had no involvement beyond officiating the events and reporting back to WCG who had won which games. Prize distribution was handled by the central office. Also for the Mexico finals (I was there) we had about 6 people from Canada who helped setup the network and officiate some of the matches. The bulk of the team in Mexico was comprised of another organization based in Mexico so while I was down there if there was any difficulty communicating with any player we would ask one of the staff who spoke spanish to translate. Most of the time the players spoke and understood english. It was actually quite an experience to meet players from another country who took the same interest in gaming as I do myself.

In regards to the question of the amount of money we charge for our upcoming BYOC event. We realize that the cost maybe more than some are willing to pay, unfortunately we received no cash sponsorship for this event. We however did receive over $25,000 in prizes from our sponsors and set the price for our event accordingly. I won't bore you with the numbers but any LAN organizer will tell you that its not cheap to run a LAN. Its even more challenging in Toronto as venues within the city limits cost way more than in any other city in Canada. I can tell you that TFL makes very little money if any money at all. We run these because we are gamers ourselves and like to have fun at events and meet players from across North America.

Sorry for the long post, hopefully this clarifies any questions or concerns. If you have any additional questions I'll be happy to answer them as best I can. One final thought, and I seem to have difficulty getting this across but BYOC events are to have fun and relax with people who have the same passion you do. While we do have lots of prizes and competitions the focus should be on having fun and having an entire night of gaming with lots of people you can finally yell at and put a face to the voice

There was some interest in having a Toronto LAN a while ago.

But that was just a LAN (team games, games for fun, etc.), not a LAN tournament. Also, we were going to use a net cafe, not BYOC.

yeah what happened to that, a cheap low-key event downtown mostly just to meet people, hang out, and play some friendly games would be awesome.

Yeah, I was hoping for something like that. I remember asking that one guy where his friend's LAN cafe was, and that was it.

Well, if anyone shouts out a weekday, time in the evening, and a LAN cafe in downtown Toronto, then I could probably show up . Just, not today or in the next few days because I have the flu .

damn, i'd most likely show up but paying 40$ to play in a lan tourney just does not sit well with me where the prizes are just about the same price.. it'll be like i'm paying to win my money back

There will be raffle tickets for every participant, so even if you don't win a tournament, you still have a chance of getting those godly graphic cards, sound cards etc.

Thanks for the support guys. Well we have a very small turn out for Starcraft but it was to be expected as not much notice was given. In the future we will give out much more notice to the Starcraft / Warcraft communities. We did giveaway lots of stuff including DLINK routers, Ktec mice, and a few LG LCD displays. If you want a full tournament wrapup please visit www.torontofunleague.com and also have a look at the photo gallery.

I hope more people come out in the future, I know there are lots of you Starcraft guys lurking around. We do this for fun and not profit, there wouldn't be a TFL if it wasn't for the gaming community support.

Hope to see some of you in the future!
