Ok, there has been a lot of these posts about "best or worst-shit ever". Anywho I saw puerto's great article about previous WCG attendants and all that, so I started thinking which WCG has been the best imo ?

Of course all players who has participated will say the year they went was best but for the rest, which year had the best gamers, best games, best finals etc...

I would say 2002, with games such as Boxer vs Blackman @ LT, Boxer vs DIDI8 @ LoC and Grrrr vs Elky/Naz (cant really remember) @ LoC -,-

and of course our favourite finals with boxer and yellow (boxer always coming out on top ^^^!)

edit: sry mistyped 2001 and 2002 ;O meant 2002!

ps. strafe sux.

Hmm the Boxer/Blackman game and Boxer/Yellow final was 2002 wasn't it? Anyhow thats the best wcg so far. 2001 was Boxer > Elky in final I think.

Probably 2002. Boxer Blackman Elky Yellow Grrrr...although the final was dissappointing.

2004 was very good too with forU vs testie .... which was a great great game in WCG. to me the best, next to Boxer vs Didi8 @2002 and that John Rambo vs the other Terran dude that lasted more than an hour in WCG 2004 too... awesome game .... Nazgul said it was his favorite game ever

The best WCG (ironically it ended up as the worst) would have been 2003 though... because Smuft had recently won TLT, and smacked Elky in Liquibition 6-2, rolled over Mondragon in some great PvZ games, and he went on that WSL from WGTour. He was in top form, the best foreigner at the time. He was playing perfect Starcraft and he was in that death group with Elky and Saft, and he would probably been sharp enough to bear Grrr... or Fisheye or ogogog (the eventual top 3).

Smuft

2002 no contest, JoseZ beating boxer then beating DidI8 who beat boxer who was beaten by FroZ twice who beat JoseZ who helped Boxer move on to finally conquer it all? was awesome :D, and other groups + blackman first appearance + nazgul + yellow + suker, great wcg :D, tho i wasn't there for 2001, 2000

Aside from the 4 events held in Korea, (2000, 2001, 2002, 2003), Singapore was the best so far.
San Francisco sucked.

It was fun seeing lots of americans though.
But it was nothing like Singapore.
Korea had to have been soo fun.

haha fish

I agree with that though
making it 2004

the group with didi froz boxer josez was the greatest thing EVER though. josez went 2-5, but beat boxer and didi. boxer got 2 losses early and was losing BADLY vs didi, if he hadn't won that game AND if josez hadn't beat didi, boxer would have been out
then tiebreak, didi gets eliminated (which was also awesome) and boxer goes on to win the entire thing

so cool.

01 or 02. I love reps on jungle story. Then the 03-04 maps were kinda lame and boring. The new ones are ok but I cant really keep up with the players and who is who anymore.

2001 Seoul
Very exciting. Took pictures with Miss Australia and it was lots of fun. Playing soccer with other PC nerds while it was freezing outside (I played with pants and t-shirt... I was young at that time).
Very nice closing ceremony and a overall awesome ending ceremony. Most probably the hardest group of death ever (Gundam, Elky, Nazgul, Tomson, FiSheYe, Blast). Very excitable games and an overwhelming Boxer. Very good times.

2002 Daejong
Best ending ceremony party (free Budweiser, super good mood, lots of friendly ppl sharing their polish Vodka, peru rum and other stuff, intercultural clash of friendship also a funny disco night and fucked up stuff afterwards. Funny anecdotes and lots of puke.
Additionally besides the WCG Tournament was a KTF Mobilephone Progamer tournament with Tossgirl, Yellow, ForU (who used scout instead of corsair at that time), Chojja, Reach, Lovedom and lots more, super impressive.
Clash of Titans with Boxer & Yellow.. Oldschool

2003 Seoul
Probably best shot for an foreigner to win that tournament. Also most handsome 2nd place finisher ever !
Besides it was a great WCG due to the huge Olympic Park and great games. Nonetheless probably the weakest korean lineup so far(sigh*). Broadcasted finals in national TV. Huge interest of media, extreme support of players and awesome expierence.

2004 San Fransisco
City of gays and homelessness guys. Super strong aircondition, I had cold&flu. Worse towards spectators and overall low interest in players compared to Korean WCGs. Players mattered less than before (public relation matters). On the other hand a very good expierence. Very nice parties (Slog4 drunk after a german alc shot.. Falling on the floor in the Hotel's garden, talking mad shit. Drinking with Jason, Rekrul and others. And Crow who was capable to bring weed in a tooth tupe all the way from czech republic to USA with the risk of getting arrest. Just to smoke with his fellows some joints ^^.

2005 Singapore
By far the best weather on all WCGs. Nicest people and overall best host city. Worse aircondition ever ( sweating/burning outside; freezing inside ) very well run competition and it almost felt like holidays. I would love to go there again. I recommend that city to everyone. Very nice partying. I went back from the tournament area after I was out and meet up with 40-50 players all drinking having fun (halo, cs, bw, PUERTO RICAN, blackman and many more) CUTE SINGAPOREAN GIRLS ! The day ended and I had to lay down around 24more hours in my bed handling one of the worse hangovers for quite some time (no PUKE!). They also had breakdance competitions and beatboxing. Hell of fun. I felt really sorry I couldn't stay longer.

I am sure there are a hundreds of thousands funny details I missed.. Smuft the "diamond" dealer not able to enter Korea,Elky throwing Chairs after elimination, toxic Gatorade, Cafone partymoves... long long list I am very proud beeing party of the WCG history.

As far as I remember it was like this^^

Well the opening dialogue was
FiSheYe: Good luck
Elky: I will win this WCG, no Boxer and ogogo will lose to my Terran
FiSheYe: errrr first of all you need to win other games..
Elky: you are no match to me, I win this year.

Games start. Korhal photon rush 8min GG.
Gorky Island dual Robo speedreaver rush 7min GG.
15min single elimination Elky is out of WCG.

Super angry, throwing chairs, almost banned from WCG. FiSheYe couldn't enter any of Elkys games as an observer for the next 6months after WCG.

Hrm, best ever..? That would be one that actually featured cyborgs. So none as of yet. The irony is that cyborgs would probably be disualified if they entered...

YellOw played in a WCG against BoxeR? I don't remember that. Was it a WCG Korea game or was it an actual WCG game?

These sites might be of more use than a StarCraft site, where the majority of posters look on WCIII as the dense misformed fetus produced during Blizzards latest miscarrige.

I really liked the 2002 one. I was cheering for boxer as usual and suddently I see him lose his first two games to "Froz" and "JoSeZ".. "Whom the fuck are they?" I thought =[. I'd say its probably the weirdest groups of all time. JoSeZ, the player who only managed to beat the two best players in his group, and lose to the rest. FroZ, managing to beat Boxer in the group and then later on in the tiebreaker too. Didi8 losing to josez, and losing a game which he had 99% won against boxer, Which resulted in him trashing his keyboard. If i'm not misstaken, guards rushed to boxers assistance as if didi8 were going to attack him or something ;O
Winners never quit, quitters never win.

DIDI8 had boxer's number that wcg, he beat him on temple with mass carriers in the warm-up games. Then he threw that game away somehow.

2011, cuz i'll be in it then.

But it had to be either 2001 or 2004 when that SoL. guy beat all the tosses he played against, but got kicked by terrans & zergs . He beat fisheye too and smuft i think (in groups).

Anyway it was a pretty well known player i just can't remember his name.

2002, one of the strongest lineup for koreans, most of the top europeans and americans (counting north and south)

Poor smuft, that's all I have to say .. it would have made an interesting WCG where Canada could have taken 1/2 or 2/3
