This is how WCG Korea is working this year.... (it's sort of complicated)
First of all, there are 3 rounds. 1st Round is the "Nominated Progamer's Qualification Round" 2nd Round is the "Qualification Round" 3rd Round is the "Final Qualification Round" There's also an "Amateur's Round", where only amateur players compete for the Final Qualificaton Round. (note: These names are my translated versions. Other's may call them something different.)
Let's start from the bottom.
Round 1, the "Nominated Progamer's Qualification Round" consists of 22 people. These people are those who were nominated from each Progaming Team, 2 players per team. Since there's 11 teams and only 2 players per team, that makes... 22 people!!! They are divided into 6 groups, with 2 groups having a bye. First place from each group advance to the 2nd Round. (This makes 6 people)
For the 2nd Round, the KeSPA ranked progamers from 4~30 minus last year's WCG winner (fOru), (so it's 26 players) are automatically included for this round along with the 6 players from the "Nominated Progamer's Qualification Round". So, this round will include a total of 32 players. (6 players from Round 1 + KeSPA Ranks #4 ~ 26, minus fOru). They will be divided into 8 groups, single elmination. First place from each group advances to 3rd Round (8 players).
Sometime before the 3rd Round, there will be an Amateur Qualification Round held for all non-progamers to play. 4 players will advance to the 3rd Round.
For the 3rd Round, 4 people are seeded. First is last year's WCG Winner (fOru). And the other 3 are the top 3 KeSPA ranked progamers of June. This round will consist of 16 players. The 4 seeded players, the 8 players from Round 2, and 4 Amateurs who qualified from the Amateur Qualification Round. Lastly the top 3 will go to WCG.
Dates: Round 1: May 30th Round 2: June 5th ~ July 11th (Every Monday and Tuesday) Time: 1PM Korea Time (12AM EST) Round 3: August 5th ~ August 6th
Maps: Round 1: 815 III, Rush Hour 3.0, Arcadia Round 2: 815 III, Rush Hour 3.0, Arcadia Round 3: The three WCG Maps + Rush Hour 3.0
The first round has been played, and the link can be found here.

감사 ~_~ Right as I asked if ForU gets a seed in another thread, this pops up! Thank You. My Question is... what happens to Kespa 1-3? -_-;; They just don't want to play?

kespa 1-3 get instant byes to the final round along with Foru

"For the 3rd Round, 4 people are seeded. First is last year's WCG Winner (fOru). And the other 3 are the top 3 KeSPA ranked progamers of June"

Thanks! This was really needed after all this confusion is the other thread.

of May. We don't know who's where yet in June, and these three have been doing horrible. But probably Oov won't drop 3 spots.

this format seems a lot better than the previous ones. but why the hell do they let the amateurs bypass the first two rounds and put them directly to the final round? that is really weird. basicly they pretend that the top4 amateurs would be as good as the top8 pros (minus the four other seeds) which is obviously wrong. how many amateurs are playing in major leagues? maybe the wcg wants to follow the olympic way where there have always been rules to reduce the number of professionals competing.
i just hope they will use the tv-league-maps for the national prelims so the progamers will eliminate the amateurs.
|
i'm sure getting the spots for the 4 amateurs is going to be really really hard, so the nominated progamers and kespa 4-30 will have an easier time getting there. the amateur round probably includes semi-pros as well

Didn't they use this last year? I remember that they separated Amateurs and pro's then also.
It seems odd that the nominated have to qualify in two rounds, but I guess the first group stage is a wild card thingy for those who aren't seeded good enough, so perhaps it makes sense.

that depends on how you define 'hard'. judging only by opponent-skill the amateur-tourneys will never be as hard as the pro-tourneys. anyway, what difference does it make how hard someones way to the finals was? if he is in and another player that could have beat him any day is out something went wrong.
