I went for singapore's WCG today, and I thought I'd share with everyone how it was like, and most probably, how the grand finals would be like this year.
Can't say much about organisation and how smoothly the games ran cause I wasn't participating, but i thought that this year the organisers actually put in much more effort into "decorating" the place (or the entire event). They invited a lot more companies/retailers/clubs to set up boothes at the hall, like Samsung had a huge ass booth that greeted you as you entered, that added some "spice" to the affair. I mean, as I left, there was some on-going activity there that attracted quite a number of people, even middle aged non gamer types.
Then again, gamers don't really give a shit about that. Organisers also had improvements this year in the gaming aspect though. One such were the multiple PLASMA TVs set up that showed FPviews of players while they played. On stage, they actually had some kind of "wcg challenge" where they offer samsung mp3 players and vouchers to people who're able to defeat pro players, and these matches were projected onto big screens. not sure if they had one for SC, but w3x and fifa2k5 were being played while i was there.
Format for the games this year was actually bo3 even during the group stage. and only 1 from each group of 4 qualified. (as opposed to last year's 4 of 6)
More miscellaneous shit. The t-shirt looked tonnes better this year. It actually had colour, as compared to last year's black and white. they had nicer lanyards this year as well.
thought it might be interesting. results are here but they were still unupdated when i checked despite the games having concluded a while ago. nirvana(2002WCG grand final top8?) is seeded in the quarterfinals due to him winning a lanshop preliminary. firfan seems pretty good too. past B level player on pgt. http://www.pgtour.net/profile.php?a=view&id=60699
This year's WCG singapore has been very successful with the organised management and huge gaming community support. DOTA (defence of the ancients has been the most popular game with over 48 teams of 5 taking part.) gaming site like www.DOTAsg.blogspot.com and www.gamesync.net are doing coverage for the games played. I believe that the Grand Finals will be even more sucessful.
close, Nirvana was top 12 in 2001. I was amazed at how many people are still coming out for BW in Singapore I think that the event sold out (may be wrong) which is awesome.
But seriosly, don't let Marine or Johnrambo win this time.
P.S. Singapore sending 2 FIFA players instead of 2 Starcraft players is lol.
JohnRambo is from Malaysia but Singapore has no retictions on who can play in their national finals so a bunch of Malaysian players from Inferno Mas-1 are competing. Infact, Johnrambo won the Singapore finals last year but because he didn't have citizenship he couldn't compete for them (second place kRez went instead)

I think this is stupid because.... the previous years host countries always had at least 3 players.... the fact that we have only one player shows how silly it is.... when to fly a singaporean player to singapore is free.....
