I wanted to try a new opening in TvT and i saw a VOD with nada vs control where nada opens with a 1fact-1port opening. He then pumps tanks and a wraith which he uses to harass control with. I wanted to know what was the basic BO for this opening and what is the general principal behind it. Is this a viable opening or is it just something you have to be really really good to use. Thx for any replies

you kids. The basic build is of course fac -> port

But seriously why are you asking for the build? You just say you saw it in a vod? So just do what nada did. You will obviously need tanks to stop early attacks and probably a wallin to halt vultures. If you go gas before rax you can do 1 fac tanks (with siege) and 1 port cloak wraith. I used to do this a long time ago and it is a fun build that is bad vs 2 port wraith openings.

Good vs fast expand coz you can get dship early and own his nat.

weak vs 2 port as wat to ToKoreaWithLove said
weak vs 2 fact -> 2 port switcher as well

conclusion: weak vs everything cept fast expo, not a really recommended build

thats as far as i know =O

And in TvT no one goes for fast expo... well actually I played one today, he picked Zerg (I thought): I did 2 rax, saw he was T, got gas. Attacked with 3 rines and 5 scv, did some small dmg, teched to 2 port wraith... harass, drop cliff his fast expo... he fucked.

You have to make a wall so he won't scout it. If it gets scouted the guy will go 3 fac vult and own the tanks. Or go fast cliff drop or something like that, I really wouldn't recomment 1 fac exp in TvT. (I wouldn't recommend it in any mu.) Go 2 fac exp, or you just won't have enough units.

a vod doesnt always concentrate on one area, or somebodys certain build/build order. and i think you pretty much drop his cliff(use wraih(s) to keep pesky dropships away and set up containment(being safe) or just tank push right over ur opponents base

i always do i fac port
its good for your fast exp, coz u can place your tanks well posicionated(your cliff/lt) or went 1/2 wraith to avoid early tank push
but its bad vs 2 port or tank+turret containmt
you'll be wit problems after =P

its a pretty flexible opening. not really good vs fac port port since you cant use wraiths and need to turret up fast while opponent can do a lot like keep pressure up, just scare you with few wraiths and have expand really fast. vs 2 port I would make ebay fast and make turrets at main (2+) and try getting your natural with a turret, making cc later. vs unsafe 2 port users you can use few wraith + cloak harass (collect wraiths, dont lose them!).

vs 2 fac vulture/2 fac goliath you will need to pump tanks constantly and get a siege, especially against fast push kind of attack.

In all fac port vs build I'd suggest you get either goliath/tank or wraith/tank shift after getting your natural.

if you have a vulture or two and a rine alive, I'd keep them patrolling the map. Random turrets are really annoying when going fac/wraith.

when facing someone who goes fac port or fac port port type of builds or 2 fac into 2 port with not many ground units, sometimes its better or easier to add few ports as your midgame continuation and go just on 1 fac and few ports + mass wraith pump. Its pretty hard to say much about these situations, but mass wraiths abuses the length of wraith/tank => tank/gol/drop tech switch and insufficient number of anti air units early on, unless opponents also makes mass starport ;D

This is good build if done correctly. You make 1fact -> 1 port add on immediatly and wraith + cloak. you go harras with 2 wraiths with cloaking, if done correctly, you can kill dropship if your opponent did 2fact gol drop build. then after 2nd or 3rd wraith you start pumping out tanks and research mode -> Wraith Tank push opponent. Very effective since he can't drop units in the middle of tanks because you have growing wraith force. You also have to expo when you go enough money, usually before tanks, or after 2 tanks + mode depending on how your wraith harrasment did, and what your opponent is doing. Another option is to make dship and cliff your opponent. No one likes ++3 wraiths and 2 tanks on your cliff, very hard to clear that

fac port is good for getting a fast contain, with wraiths for sight/harass and the tanks for siege. it's really not that good against any offensive builds, like 2 port, 3 fac vult, or 4 gol drop

wraith addon wraith or wraith wraith addon for me. no point in addon wraith wraith since 1st wraith is late and 2nd wont have enough energy for cloak.

Without further explaining myself, I think that on LT it may be the one build that works kind of well against anything.

Vs 2port wraith aswell as 2fact->exp+2port or whatever was said you'll still know exactly what he does with good scouting and you'll never be behind really.

It's not the ultimate build perhaps but for me, who don't know TvT all that perfect, it's a start to use when I want to be in the game for sure.

Walling is a must, otherwise 3 fac vulture-mine strat kills you pretty badly...
