Ok, so lately I have been experiencing zvps that went normally untill this point: "ooowwh, a shuttle, ooowh, 2 rvrs, ooowh, move drones"

This goes on for a while and a few drones occasionally, but... somehow I never ever have enough units to actually kill the shuttle+rvrs.

So, when I'm facing rvrs it's mostly, shuttle, drop, micro rvr in-and-out, kill units, GG.

Ways to prevent this?

Reaver range > sunken range...

Anyhow, I haven't had any 1 rvr drop as of late, so don't know if it's double robo or not, probably not, I'm just slow.

Another thing might be, how the hell am I suposed to expect/anticipate for reavers, I'm the one who is supposed to be using insects, not the protoss

Reavers are not that common PvZ, but if you do encounter them, hope you put a spire down somewhere, and then keep 2 scourge at each mineral mining base. That shuttle won't last long while scourge hang around.

sunken is for slow him down -_-;;instead of a direct attack to drones-_-;

god lol fuking reavers suck pvz. ANY GOOD ZERG WILL SCOUT ANY TECH OF TOSS.... If protoss is proxy'ing zerg should see that something is missing. Sprire > robo unless its a ultra fast reaver (but then zerg can just kill toss with lings) and you can take out the morphing spire. So basicly its a very bad opening with small chances of succes.

i really like tsunami's primary counter = burrow, never failed me.
Nothing better then watching a toss suicide a shuttle with reavers into a defended base with bunch of drones only to see them burrow.

Burrow hydra's, having the shuttle fly over the burrowed hydra's unsuspected, then killing the shuttle by unburrowing

most satisfying thing in zvp -_-;

Good counters for reaver drops =

1. Scourge
2. Lurkers
3. Mutalisks(I prefer these since I usually Muta against Toss anyways)

how is it stupid to keep a lurker lying around ur base? Who the hell sends observers to go with reavers? The lurkers will force him to leave and give you time to bring up scourge.

It takes 11 lurker hits (I think) to kill a reaver, and with all that gas wasted on lurks you cant afford hydra speed/range or muta in time.

Yeah 1 lurker outranges the reaver by far!

You make it sound as if a lurker has the range and damage of a siege tank.

If you really scared of reaver, go spire and go mutualisks. Harrass his base, but keep 2 scourge at home. Seriously. Scourge >>>>> reaver pop any day.

Burrow + 2 scourge + mutualisk is PERFECT counter for reaver drop. Scourge kill shuttle. If he droppped the reavers before his shuttle blew, burrow drones and send your harrassing mutuas to kill the roaming shuttles. Seriously. Perfect!

Burrow + 2 scourge + mutualisk = perfect counter to reav drop!

usually if he is going areaver he is using a 1gate build, witch means iethr he goes templar, corsair, or reaver, In this case, when you see he has less units than normally, youd tech to spire and hopefully you can1. catch his shuttle or 2. hydra/scourge the reavers. Also this enables you to drop on him since he teched right away ;] btw when he see's muta hes gonna go straight to archon/zealot, so you want to tech to hydras asap when your done with the drop ot infact tech to a den so yor prepared when he changes. On the other hand you can go 3rd nat and 3hat ling==>hydra before he goes to zeal/archon. Then again thats just me =]

Toss often uses some photoncannon defense when they go for this tactic. So if they make photoncannons fast and don't expand you can nearly bet on reavers i think. Now i was thinking. How good are mutalisks against photoncannons? With some micro they should be able to destroy enough of them to break the tosses economy and since he teched to reavers he might need some time to get templars or archons.

Okay here's something i've learned from countless deaths to reavers (Still suck vs 'em though - also depends on who uses them). Knowing reavers are coming => Go mutas first and later on Mutahydra. In case you don't have a clue, it's good to keep a few hydra in your main, if for nothing else, then delay. Get spire asap and don't forget to pump up drones. After getting rid of the initial thread, it's important to get drones. If you decided to go muta from the beginning, you shouldn't have any problems handling it, just kill the reavers and expand and mass drones for some time, then start going masshydramuta followed by greater spire.

If you can stop toss from expanding, all the better. Remember to scout the whole map so he won't get any hidden exps (DAMN THEM TO HELL). There's pretty much no point in attacking vs a reavercannoning pure defence toss, rather play defensive and expand. Mass hydra drops might work though, but it might be pretty risky since reavers are often accompanied by corsairs plus he can pretty easily prepare hence the observers.

Playing safely and defensively yet as aggressive as possible so that you don't sac troops is prolly best. I still hate playing vs reavers though. Mutahydra to greater spire is the main tagline anyways =)
River me timbers.

if you are afraid of reavers, dont get an expansion in the early game. problem solved pussies.. boohoo zerg doesnt get a free early expo wah wah

besides, if i were zerg i'd be more afraid of mid-game reavers with speed shuttle than early game slow shuttle reaver bullshit =/

you have overlord's right? :p

Fly into P base to scout. Usually you can tell what they are up to, late game you'll have speed. If a P opens reaver though, you should have enough time to see it with lord (although lord should die to a goon at some point during its scouting mission). If you see/think reaver, go muta.

Go muta and scout well? It's pretty hard to hide your tech in PvZ so if you suspect something fishy with your OL then just go muta instead of hydra. It's not like your hurting yourself because Muta is a good viable opening.

When the toss goes tech I normally go 3 hatch tech. Get mutas and get lurkers. 6 or more mutas and a few hydras will block off any reaver/sair attack on your base. I also make a sunk in main base and expo too just to be sure.

With mutas you can fight off any reaver/dt drop, and with lurkers you can fight off any mass zeal/temp he tries. You are also in a better position to macro hard while skimping defences. And if he still follows up with goon/reaver/sair, just make mass mass mutas and scourge, also try to keep him from expanding. Burrowing lurks or lings there is what I usually do. 2 base zerg beats 1 base goon/reaver any day.

Overrall I found this approach vs protoss tech the most effective.

Spire versus One gate opening is usually a good build anyway. He's either going to fast expo or tech, and spire stops both because one gate => high templar is just ... not done.

Against the sair/dt rush you get scourges.

Against Reaver, you get mutas.

Against fast expo you get harrassment value and force cannons.

Two scourge are seriously your best bet. Reavers lack mobility. Take away the shuttle and they are just slugs waiting to be salted.

Sometimes you get them before he unloads too. Then you are really in good shape.

you have overlords for recon and to detect shuttles. use them (not literally speaking using them for combat; they cant attack). a pair of scourge on those darn shuttles, and a single muta to take out the unloaded reaver. no excess of mutas necessary unless there is a dragoon in the cargo as well. in that case make 2 mutas. recon is everything.

reaver is hard to stop late game because then they usually have more weapons and options to choose from.

if you're dying to reaver early game you should scout better or get a spire earlier.

Yeah burrow is an excellent idea, but if he has a robo, he may also have obs which would render your little burrow idea ineffective. Usually if a toss gets tech that fast (only 1 gate) then he dies very quickly to hydra rush -_-. Hydra's are probally the best counter to reaver drops, or any tech that toss does.
Success is the ability to go from one failure to another with no loss of enthusiasm.
