Lately, we've seen a blossoming of the dark archon in both the pvz and pvp matchups. I'm sure this isn't completely novel, but its certainly the first I've witnessed of it on a regular scale at the professional level at least. Recently, in the Proleague Movie used a Dark Archon to feedback-snipe templar against M18M who ironically used it just before him in a match vs Perfectman of Oz to do the same thing. Both times I've seen it used, its been extremely potent, and its a wonder why more players aren't doing it. Yes there's a cost associated with it, both for apm and resources, but if it can quickly stop 3 templars from storming your army, it could save you tons of headaches during a battle. That said, there's not alot of players that have apm to spare that they can easily afford to do this, and it usually comes at a cost of microing other units or macroing and its reminiscent of Jaedong's comments about the inclusion of a queen into the zerg mix.
The vod of M18M vs Perfectman is below:

The sweet spot is around 13:50
Now, if you watch the battle, he forgoes all ht for more units and a dark archon, but uses it almost exactly the same, forgetting about it in the middle of the battle and forcussing on microing other units, but just like a ht it wanders unharmed through the sea of enemy troops, until either side starts to retreat. I'm not going to crunch numbers on resource cost for including a DA, but obviously if you play a similar style and forgo high templar, the apm required to micro DA is much less noticeable.
Altogether, it wasn't a game-changer, and with or without the dark archon, M18M probably would have won, but it sure makes for some exciting games and brings about a new dimension to PvP.
PS: Yes I know there are some old threads about this already, but they were written back in 2005/2003, and I think that, considering its appearance in 2 pro-level games, it requires further attention.
