Following my idea you should be capable of balancing the real ability of players... since a 2500D+ is for sure a better player than a 2000D+...
The way you did it, dividing the number of players in half, just considers a A+ equivalent to a D-. Imagine it like a metal bar that you wish to balance in way it wont fall, if one side is heavier than the other, you just can't balance it on the middle.
