After the long wait with winner's league playoffs going on the time for round 4 has arrived. With a close round 3 and ever increasing tl participation (about 1000 people last round) it's getting harder and harder to do well in fantasy proleague. With the increased challenge comes a brand new interface, completely automated and with a new trading system, that should make this round even more interesting. If you haven't played fantasy pl before or if you've been in since the start I hope this is a fun and enjoyable experience for everyone.
Fantasy Proleague is a great experience that will make you appreciate and enjoy Proleague more, give you something to talk about with other Fantasy PL participants, and help you better familiarize yourself with the Proleague scene. I have thoroughly enjoyed the previous rounds and it has brought an excitement to watching proleague matches as well as helping me learn all the players.

FAQ:
What is fantasy proleague? Fantasy proleague is a game where you compete against other players in attempting to compile the "best" team of players based on their performances in proleague.
This looks too complicated, how much effort is required? The absolute minimum you must do is simply compile a team, nothing else, thats it. If you want you can get really into it browsing player stats and map balances and looking each week for the "perfect" trade opportunities. Either way fantasy proleague can be an enjoyable experience.
What do I need to do to enter? Use the entry form here, pick 6 players you expect to do well for your main team, plus a proleague team; then pick 3 players you expect to slump or not see much playing time for your anti team. Make sure your team meets the requirements(you will be prompted to change it if it doesn't) and then hit submit.
Rules:
1. Each main team will consist of six different players and one proteam (who score points when they do well)
2. Each anti team will consist of three different players (who lose points when they do well)
3. Each main team must include at least one player from each race. (Terran, Zerg & Protoss)
4. You must designate one of the players on your main team to be the Team Captain (can't be traded and will determine tiebreakers).
5. You can spend no more than 30 points creating your main team. (explained below)
6. You can spend no less than 13 points creating your anti team. (explained below)
7. Each person only gets one entry (feel free to change your team until the first games).
Team Creation:
Just like last round you will be forming a Main Team consisting of 6 players (1 designated captain, used for tie breakers) and 1 Proleague team costing a maximum of 30 points who will contributed points to your team based on their performance. New to this round however is the addition of a Anti Team, this consists of 3 players costing a Minimum of 13 points; your Anti Team players will be subtracting their point total from your total score (time to start looking for those overpriced players heading in to a slump). Note that the Anti Team and Anti Team selections are not related to each other, you may not however have a player on both your Main Team and Anti Team (you're not stupid right?). Your Main Team must still follow the rule of having one of each race; however the Anti Team is not limited by this restriction so you can pick 3 Protoss players if you so wish.
Trading:
During the short breaks between each week of games you will have the option to trade away anyone on your teams; player's will be given a trade value based on their expected and actual performance each week. You may trade any player for someone of lower trade value (or higher for anti team). You are limited to 2 main team and 1 anti team trade per week. Note that you must maintain one of each race on your main team. EDIT: player trades now COST 1 point to make, this is to offset potential gains from guaranteed lineup points.

What I looked for in my Anti-team is players who won't get a lot of playtime due to being outclassed by a better player on their team of the same race, and won't be in lineups due to race requirements.
EffOrt, Shine[kaL], and go.go were my picks.
sAviOr, Iris, sKyHigh, Much > EffOrt
keke, RorO, Mind, Pure/Rock > Shine[kaL].
Leta, herb/Chalrenge/Horang2, YellOw[ArnC], type-b > go.go
The problem with some players is that even if they're doing kind of crappy, they're going to be in a lot of lineups due to race requirements and being the best on their team of a race, so they're destined to win a few. Much comes to mind.

The map pool also has a huge influence on how you should pick your team (eg WL maps were anti protoss and pro terran), so I hope they release the map pool before the games start.

Much might not be played much, (ohohohoho), but CJ is a team that does win matches, so you could still be losing a point every time CJ plays.

Team - I chose July, Stork, sAviOr and sKyHigh because I am a fan of them and they are all fairly reliable. I didn't pick any of the more uber players like Bisu, Flash and Jaedong because they're so expensive. Fantasy is also fairly reliable. His BOs are enjoyable to watch but I'm not one of his fans "yet." fOrGG is really a hit or miss for me. Ever since he won the MSL, he has been slumping forever. I chose him because I'm betting on Flash to help strengthens his style (it will work like Bisu and Best, or Stork and Jangbi, where two players strengthens each other's style).
I wanted to pick team CJ since I'm such a fanboy but I was one point short. So I ended up picking KTF.
Anti - Lomo and Much didn't play much in the Winners League and I am hoping it stays that way in the upcoming Proleague. BeSt is the most powerful macrobot out there. But players are starting to figure out his play style and he has stumping as a result. Let's hope he keeps slumping.

Question: In your example question your anti team had a combined total of -2. You team had 42. So wouldn't that make the grand total 44? Not 40? 42 - (-2) = 42+2 = 44?

its impossible for your anti team to go negative (add score to your total). the best anti team possible will score a combined 0 points. the score just displays it as -2 when its actually 2 points scored by the anti team.
so the main team scored 42, anti team scored 2, subtract anti team and you get 40.

That's 21 points. Upgrading Tempest/Stork to Mind/Jangbi yields the following team, which will be my Fantasy team:
Three players for ace matches and hopefully some reliable point scorers. I'd rather have kept Tempest than Thezerg, but this way I'm less reliant on KTF and have a nicer racial distribution.
Let's see how this turns out.

Stork I believe is going to be a real good grab for only 4 points, I hope he finds the motivation to practice a lot, hah! I also got the obligatory Jaedong to get me some of that streaking goodness.
hmmm... still might rewrite the whole damn thing though. Have to go and check out the new maps and what peeps are saying about them. Has the map pool for the next PL round been decided already?

I had to choose between iris and sea.really for my 6pointer anti-team player, and I went with sea.really just because I like iris more

You lose points; for example say someone on your anti team gets 5 points in a day, that would mean your team loses 5 points for his performance.

First, I think it would have been awesome if the April fools was real. I actually thought it was.
Second, I was wondering where Xellos was in that player list. Updated my team, but noticed Xellos shows up as Protoss on my roster.

Yeah you get a point for being sent out, so the minimum you can get is 0.
A better way to think of it would be this:
Win = +3 points
Ace match Win = +4 points.
Loss = 0 pts
Ace match Loss = 1 pt.

I think this fantasy pl season will be a lot more interesting. In the last season we had lots of similar teams, but now the options are so diverse especially with the Anti-Team on top of it that there are no clear picks. The prices of bisu,flash and jaedong also make teams without them very viable.

thats actually a pretty decent team. I'm assuming yellow is because of point limitations? Of the 0 pointers, gorush looked the best, but after yellow's really impressive showing in the MSL offlines, I would go for yellow too and just hope he pulls something off. If you do have spare points, then there are lots of one point players to use.
Your thoughts with samsung are the same as mine and a lot of other players. They seem to benefit most through specific practice where they know the opponent and map before hand. So everyone seems to be expecting a rebound. free seems like the only competition at 8 points, and stork should be a steal.
I think CJ is going to significantly outperform the other teams, but if you dont have the points, KTF is probably next best
as for antiteam, I thought pretty much the same thing. It comes to whether you think keke or shinekal will outperform the other. I picked canata over iloveoov, since you get the same team points, and I think hes a lot less likely than iloveoov to play (and win).

Anytime's not a bad choice here (though realize, he plays almost all ace games for ACE so far since he joined), but why the WeMade Zergs? These two get most of the playing time and they both win more than they lose, you'd almost be better going with another barely-winner and a 0- or 1-pointer imo.

Yes that's exactly right.
Every point scored by a player on your Anti Team counts against your total score.

I actually think its going to come down to who trades the best. Fluid trading (limited to two per week for main team, 1 per week for anti team) combined with lineups released before games gives everyone opportunities to improve the value of their team. It's risky as the players might not win and you won't be able to switch back, but you can dramatically increase your points scored if things work out like you want.

looking at the new maps for round 4 makes me want to change up(again!)
My team stands pretty zerg heavy, with Jaedong as the superstar, followed by GGPlay and by.hero. Im feeling like the new maps are going to favor T and P a little bit over Z, so maybe some changing up is in order? Anybody trying to metagame from this angle yet? My only terran was Hwasin but now I feel like I should maybe come up with a new gang, emphasizing P and T over Z a little bit, because of the maps! Help! :D

hmm, which anti-team, Mind-Reach-Oov or sea.really-Fbh-Oov, I really don't think Oov is gonna have any success but FBH scares me, he might go and be good again and I think really is gonna win like 40% of his games. On the other hand, I think nada is going to overtake mind as the #1 terran on fox but I can't be sure...and I think reach has been in airforce to long, he's not gonna win. Plus this anti-team has crappier supporting teams. But on my third hand I really really hate FBH and kinda like Reach (guess he grows on you).

Hot_Bid is not dismissing you as a fanboy, he's simply stating the reasoning behind the costs as has been described many times before, and emphasizing the objective nature of the system. Point costs can't be decided based on how we felt someone did, they're based purely on the actual performance of the players in proleague.

I wasn't offended - yes I missed the "almost" in your post, so my fault there and I am sorry for the snarky response. The comment about history being remembered by fans was just as much to highlight my own CJ fanboyness - I don't even remember Jaedong's great performances in the first three games, I only remember the four games after.
My next two paragraphs explain quite adequately why we use previous WL/PL results as the base for determining player prices, it'd be unfair to include other leagues as our scoring isn't including other leagues results, only PL. I don't think my words were very harsh, but some people are sensitive I guess.
Obviously, when you said "wouldn't it make more sense..." we assumed you understood that we were basing it off previous PL results and that you were advocating a different system that included more subjective evaluation. If we did include OSL and other results into pricing (your incorrect assumption), your analysis about cost would be correct. My dismissing you as a fanboy would also be correct if my assumption were true. Thus I was only "dismissing you as a fanboy" on an incorrect assumption, just like you thought our system "didn't make sense" based on an incorrect assumption (that we included all other results). We both "didn't know a damn thing".
Regardless, when I said "to satisfy some fans who think he should cost more" it was directed more at the guy who said "the best player in the world should be 13 or 14 points not 10", clearly a Jaedong fan who felt the prices were an inaccurate reflection of the current BW hierarchy.

This is fantasy proleague so I do expect that players are rated based on teams performance and how often they are used so I agree with the points system. Also is there like a prize for the highest pointer for this event? With that gl to all.

Id take skyhigh over iris anytime. Both are equally good and iris is coming back (previous proleague season was so bad for him). On the other hand skyhigh took the place of the main terran in CJs lineup and i think he has more chances of Ace. By.hero sucks at proleague but can win many games if he actually plays. Rock sucks hard times id choose pusan or spear over him all day. Nada is not that good in proleague, and you have 2 players from one of the worst teams: wemade, i think forgg is better there.

I hope this makes sense, if not feel free to ask questions. As an example let's say Leta (9 cost) plays in two matches the first week going 1-0 with a Team win in the first match and 2-0 in the second with an ace win and team win (4 pts 1st game, 9 pts 2nd game [3 wins * 2, 2 lineups * 1, 1 ace * 2, 2 team wins * 1, 1 Three Win Streak * 1]) = 13 pts for week 1 with two matches played out of 11 for the round: T = (13 / .41) / 2 * 2/11 + 9 * (11-2/11) T = 31.4 / 2 * 2/11 + 9 * 9/11 = ? T = 15.7 * 2/11 + 9 * 9/11 = (At this point we can see he has an estimated cost of 15.7 if he continues on this scoring trend whereas his original cost is 9--these are then weighted based on games played and games left) T = 2.85 + 7.4 Trade Value = 10.21 ( Leta's trade value at the end of week one with him scoring 13 pts over 2 games) Trade Value is directly comparable with a players original cost thus someone with a Trade Value of 9 is rated the same as a player that started at Cost 9. Adjusted Trade Value is what is used in the actual trade calculations and is simply Trade Value * Number of Games Left. Thus, Leta at 10.21 with 9 games left would have an Adjusted Trade Value of 91.89; say free plays one game in week 1 and his new trade value is 9.5 (just picked this randomly fyi), free with 10 games left would have an Adjusted Trade Value of 95. Notice how free's Adjusted Trade Value is higher than Leta's because he has the extra game left to score additional points in.

I think Hwasin for 3 points is a pure steal if his slump is really over AND he played ace matches quiet often... by.hero just seems to be the 1 pointer with the most potential. Hwasin - Low point steal, with regular format again he is pretty much guaranteed to be playing once per match and is a good contender for ace.
Jaedong - Nothing needs to be said.
by.hero - Low point, I was burned hard last season for choosing him but he has improved dramatically and due to this format has a shot at playtime.
Stork - Produces results when he can prepare for a specific match, hiz PvZ has come a long way too.
GGPlay - Problems with previous format, will be a staple in Stars roster for this format IMO, only 2 points.
Fantasy - Due to the massive depth of players on CJ, I chose fantasy over skyhigh. Being one of the only reliable terrans on SKT1 fantasy has much more potential to be played unlike skyhigh.
For anti team -
iloveoov - Don't feel he'll be played much even if I do want him to come back.
Really - Best high point choice IMO, will probably get played frequently however it's the best gamble I found.
PianO - Lucked out an all kill last season but is overall terribad, great for the points.
CJ is a beast of a team who I think will continue their rampage into the next season.

Jaedong will get you to the top of the ranks (mostly likely) but he won't win the contest for you, I'm thinking of playing a more loose style this season, taking more trades and stuff.

hehe this type of thinking (changing your entire roster based on lineups) really killed me last round, but i can't help but be influenced by them....

Yes, but this time there are much more trades avalaible so the lineup isn't as set in stone as before.
I mean if you can chose between Stork which has 2 guaranteed appearances and is a viable aceplayer and the twice as expensive Jangbi which got 1 appearance and is a viable aceplayer things look kinda clear to me.
by.hero vs horang2 is also a guy that probably won't play at all (god knows why) and a guy that plays 2 times for sure...

I missed fOrGG playing Shine[kaL], he should won both this week for my antiteam to perform properly.
I am hesitant trading to 1 Point players that do play, cause more often than not they will loose. For now I will trust in by.hero and at least try to pick up his team points.

Trades now cost 1 fantasy point per trade. This is to offset part of the advantage a trade after lineups are released gains you (the appearance point).
For example, if your team has scored 50 points, and you wish to trade a player, you will be assessed a 1 fantasy point "trade cost". Trading someone off your team would make your team's total score 49. This includes anti-team trades.

basically, enjoy your free week of picking based on lineups people
every week from now on it will cost 1 point to trade a player. otherwise you could rotate every week based on lineups and pick up free appearance points. while it's probably not that big a deal for the regularly played players, it adds a level of depth in that its not such an easy decision to trade a 2 pointer for a 1 pointer who is going to play next week.

Free should net you 2 wins, he should be able to beat great and Young should be a pushover for him?
Hogil has also 2 lower enemys that should be "fair" matches for him (Odin and Spear). But his ZvZ does not look promising with only 12.5% winrate (he played firefist, ggplay, july twice, 815, hyaa and Effort - he won once against July...), his vs P looks promising but his vs T is also highly questionable, since january where he has beaten Mind he was only able to kick Boxer and Puma....
Kal has to face Mind which is "open"
Luxury has to face Upmagic which also could turn out bad.
And Luxury/Kal have the *better* Teams to net them even more points.
I would go with Kal/Luxury... Longterm Kal/Luxury combined should do way better than Hogil/Free (unless Hogil becomes somehow suddenly a good player and Free will rock on).

I think once BackHo returns, he will come back blazing in PL. I dont know why... but picked Stork/NaDa over BackHo/sKyHigh because i think since NaDa's play in the last MSL against Jangbi showed he is still here, and in top form. His play was not only superb, but brilliant. It is a gamble still, but since he has time to prepare, the Genius Terran will prevail. Stork can prepare for any match exceptionally, and thus his PL> his WL. We will see though....

Flash, FBH, and Skyhigh I figured I'd really want on my team just because. Kal's always been somewhat solid and he looks like he'll be playing every match, too. Yellow... 0 points and I heard he did well against someone or other. Horang2 for bonjwa!! I think I only chose him after seeing the lineups. Leaning toward putting another Zerg in somewhere for the sake of 2 in each race, but I wouldn't know where to start with that change.

I'm pretty busy with exams and all, so this is my last minute entry.
Stork and Best are a steal at 4 and 6 points. I think GGPlay and YellOw are undervalued as well. I picked sKyHigh since I needed a 5 point Terran. Jaedong is going to be a beast this round with z-imba Battle Royal + only 6 maps, so Battle Royal would be played basically every match. He's also Lecaf's most reliable ACE, and I'm betting the team is going to go to ACE many games since Jaedong and HiyA are the Only reliable plyaers.
On the anti team, I'm predicting Leta is going to bomb this round. I've seen too many players going on a huge streak in Proleague and then fail miserably afterwards. Doctor.K is an SKT PrOtoss and NeeL is a Lecaf Zerg, so they're never going to be played. They're also 2 points each so that's a nice bonus as well.

My team is going to do very poorly. Very few people picked ACE for their team, despite being zero points and much improved from previous seasons. I think they're going to do significantly better in PL than WL and certainly justify the points savings.

Before signups is over you can change your team as much as you want, but once the league starts you can only make trades in the two days off between proleague weeks. There will be a countdown saying when trade period ends. You get two main team trades per week and one anti team trade. Player trades cost 1 point to make.

For PL R2 semioldguy manually entered 200+ teams users and players into an Excel spreadsheet
For WL (PL R3), we had a much more efficient spreadsheet but it still took forever to update stats and trades
For PL R4, Abydos helped code an automated ranking and trade system
For PL R5, who knows!?!?!?!?

Best has an injured neck, his team only plays once this week and he is not in the lineup, and you lose one point every time you make a trade....
