GhostOutlaw, a newly registered member of Teamliquid.net and not to be confused with Ghostclaw, is developing a student-documentary on the Starcraft E-Sports scene. Still in his probationary period, he's asked that I post his message for him.

I am currently working on a documentary about the game Starcraft and need interviews with former players!

I am looking for anyone who played/competed at any major or minor live events or anyone who would consider themselves a professional or former professional player. Semi-pro is great too, so is live spectator!

This is for a documentary film and shooting will be occuring during the month of March.

Please PM me (GhostOutlaw) or e-mail me (ghostoutlaw@gmail.com) for more info and to set up the interview!. Unfortunately this is a low-budget documentary and only those willing to travel to the NJ/NY/NYC can be interviewed.

If you're available to help, be sure to let GhostOutlaw know.

Yay! I can respond to posts!

Ok to answer some questions.

1) Webcam intervews are no good. The quality is very poor, the lighting is weak, and it does not allow for any effects I have planned. It's an absolute last resort.

2) The working title is just 'Starcraft', for now. If I come up with something wittier I will go with it, and totally open to suggestions.

The goal of the doc is to bring light to how starcraft changed the gaming scene both competitively and for game producers. Starcraft is now the benchmark for any RTS game made! As for the competitive scene, well no game is bigger then starcraft. What baseball is to the US, SC is to Korea!

I want to tell the story of Starcraft and what it's all about, how things in the game work, how the competitions came to be and generate exposure. I also want to set up the release of SCII some as well.

Unfortunately one of the key aspects of the documentary is the interviews. The interviews are what I want to use to drive the narrative where visuals just aren't enough. Interviews add not only add a personal touch that people can more easily relate to, but they also add a level of integrity. The importance is on multiple levels.

One thing I may mix it up and make a request is for some audio interviews, but I do need a solid amount of video interviews as well.

My goal is 50 interviews to allow me to have the maximum amount of footage to work with. If I can get half of that I'll be happy. Anything less then 10 though and I may have an issue. The other reason travel is an issue is because I have to work in my university studio to be able to utilize the green screen.

So please, if want to be interviewed and can make it to the NJ/NY/NYC area in the month of march, please let me know! The interviews are absolutely vital!

Hey, I'm in the NYC area, and I'm an avid fan of Starcraft. I can do a short interview if I'm free. In fact, over spring break NYC area starcraft players may possibly meet up for a lan party at web2zone =D
By the way, what uni do you attend?

Awesome awesome awesome guys.

If you are available for an interview or are interested in being interviewed, please PM or email me (ghostoutlaw@gmail.com) ASAP! I need to start scheduling them immediately.

These events in boston you speak of, can you please PM or email me more details with dates of upcoming events or contact information for frequent players? That would be perfect!

On another note, if you or someone you know has video footage from live events (please no camera phones, lol), I am also interested in this! Any footage used will of course be credited but gaining that extra footage allows more content for me to work with.

So if anyone has anything for me please PM or email me ASAP!

Thanks again everyone!

I am not some highly skilled player, like JF or Mondragon. I have been playing competitively since 2003, and I have played in the WCG since then. I finished semi-finals in Virginia in 2003 and semi-finals for USA Atlantic in 2005, haven't competed since. I did go to WCG last year in July, not meaning to play but got put into brackets for Atlantic semifinals since 2 of the competiting players dind't show up. I play(ed) for Revoltados eSports, and was sponsored for playing starcraft and managing the team. Got to div. 2a, and then poker took over. If that is something that you would be willing to put into it, then sure.

Just wondering, when do you need all of this by?

Needed by: The sooner the better.

Do you qualify: YES!

Definitly interested and I will PM you and right now I am going to make an example of you! (The good kind)

CaucasianAsian is basically overqualified for what I am looking for. To be honest, all I need is players (past or present) who are aware of the competitive scene. If your apart of it, great! If your a big part of it, better! If your a spectator or local competitor, thats exactly what I want too!

The amount of information you may posses and can bring forward and explain is FAR greater then experience. Although experience is absolutely and 100% a big plus. Been on the sidelines just watching the big names go at it the entire time? Thats fine! If you fall into that category you actually are unique because you bring a different perspective to the table! Which is what I am going for. So if you think you can be useful, odds are you're right and should get in touch with me!

Again, thanks for the great response so far but keep them coming. The more content I have the better this will turn out! The better this turns out the more exposure it can create bringing more attention, competition and legs to the game!

With the quantity of interviews you want, I'd strongly suggest you reconsider some webcam interviews, especially if you want to get multiple semi-pros/pros. Live interviews would be ideal, I agree, but be a little creative with the webcam interviews and I don't think it'll be half-bad (don't use the full screen for the webcam-- have the webcam interview-feed as an inset with a larger picture surrounding it). Again, best of luck.

Tadzio,

Your absolutely right about that. I have considered doing that and depending ont he overall response I get I may start screening for some webcam interviews. It's more of a last ditch effort though to fill content just because I can only use very high resolution web cams due to technical restrictions of the documentary.

As for the VO question, I am going to try to use the interviews to guide the story as much as possible when visuals cannot be easily explained. That's the nature of explaining something foreign to anyone, a human touch makes the medicine go down a whole lot easier. I am avoiding the Voice of God (see history channel if your not sure what this is) entirely if possible as it's a dated technique and in this point in time considered a weak practice in film making.

To explain a bit more about the interviews, basically what I'm trying to create is a simple greenscreen effect. The TV studio at my school has a setup for greenscreen and I want to do all the interviews on that. From there I can cut in actual gameplay footage, event footage or just about anything I want to use as a backdrop for the interviews. The purpose for this is many fold: for those unfamiliar with the game, they get to meet a player and see some action going on, for players learning the game they get to see footage of how it works and whats going on and it builds a comfort zone. Once you see something so many times you feel OK about it. A brief example is an ad for a soda brand. You've never had it but if you pass a billboard for it every day, see your friends drinking it, see the vending machine for it, see a commercial for it, eventually one day you'll see it in the store and buy it because your brain will tell you 'Oh, i've seen that somewhere, I know it's ok'. Catch is, you've never had it! Brand familiarity, simple concept, applies in so many ways. This is why I want as many interviews as possible done at my studio on the green screen so I can put in whatever footage I want and that fits! Talking heads and VOG are techniques of the past and today considered weak.

Overall I am happy with the response I am getting. So keep it coming!

Although you might not consider any webcams, you could ask people to record themselves if they have a camera behind a greenscreen they can make themselves (which isnt very hard).

what there's no way you're gonna get 50 pros or even top amateurs to travel to NYC on their own budget for this. Maybe you could just do an audio interview, and show pictures of the player.

I am avoiding webcams but they are not completely out of the question.

One reason I am avoiding it is because of the difference in quality for cutting it in. Basically a greenscreen, as you indicated, is not hard to make. You're 100% right, What is difficult, expensive and time consuming is properly lighting it. And thats what makes all the difference.

Just lighting alone will create continuity errors if there is a difference between the shots. This creates immediate problems with utilizing the green screen since it depends on near perfect lighting. I have been working out a way to work with webcams today though and how to effectively fit them in.

That doesn't mean I can sacrifice live interviews, it just means those who felt they were too far away, or, obviously were to far away, LOLEUROPEASIA, will most likely be viable subjects as well!

More info coming but please keep contacting me with your information.

Hey, I did about 100 video interviews last year, though most of them are with WC3 and CS players but you are interested only in the SC ones right?

Here are the threads:

In that Coverage Item you can find for example one with Blackman: http://www.mymym.com/en/coverage/384/26.html

And I also did some with Tasteless on a Blizzard event but can't find it right now, might me somewhere on myMYM under home->coverage

If you need those vids in full quality, lemme know.

I think Ghostoutlaw is right in rejecting webcam footage. The problems caused in format, resolution, lighting and sound are just not worth it. No TV station would accept such footage unless it was a truly compelling subject like UN abuse of people in a warzone or something.

I haven't seen the concept, but I think 50 interviews is way too many. For a typical one hour documentary we do 2 long ones and 5 short ones (fewer, if possible).

I doubt, I hate maths! hehe

Personally I think the best interviews are the ones from WCG USA Qualifier last year... All the guys like Nony, inc and co I interviewed were in really great mood.

If you need anything else, just lemme know... since I don't have the job at myMYM anymore, I got plenty of time

Can you like explain the concept a bit more? Like what is the target audience and what's the goal of the movie?

Storyteller just made a good point.

I want a lot of interviews for a reason. 1) Todays style is rapid fire editing, doing it and doing it well are 2 different things. It takes a LOT of footage to make it work well because of how intriquet the cutting actually gets. 2) I want so many people to show how many different people are actually involved. If I show a doc with a homogenous population, yea i might be able to pull it off but a stronger message is sent if I can show a really wide variety.

This is an example of one of the sequences that I have that I really want to do. This is how I want to open it.

Fade In - Inside Studio

Subject #1
Hi, My name is ----.

Cut to

Subject #2

Hi, My name is ----.

Cut to

Subject #3

My name is ----.

Cut to

Subject #4

And so on. Each cut is accelerating in hold time, cutting to as many players as possible just getting their name in.

Cut to Subject #XX

'Hi, My name is (Ideally someone most notable) and I -'

Audio cut in of ALL subjects, good and loud:

'Play Starcraft!'

Ideally I would want one big group picture of everyone there but I'll make that sacrafice.

Maybe it seems cliched but the message I am trying to send I think it fits. And it's totally open for change since I haven't started shooting yet.

I want to immediately create the impression of a massive amount of people, good diversity, and a lot of energy.

And that's just my intro. But I hope that clarifies why I want so much content. As the editor for this and editing past projects, personally I prefer to work from a feast rather then a famine (of video footage). Although working with the famine has its benifits. (provided the footage is dog poopy!)

Thanks everyone!

I'm holding off on releasigna ll the details of the documentary immediately since it is a documentary. And what I mean by that is, often times it is not unusual for a documentary to be COMPLETELY changed during the time between pre and post production because of the footage gathered or a host of other factors.

Basically my target audience though is anyone who DOESNT play starcraft. Naturally it will appeal to SC lovers and players because it is their interest but the goal of the doc is to create awareness of the existence of this community, the competitive community, and the effects the game has had on culture.

The enormity of the impact of starcraft practically goes hand in hand with how much of an impact WWII had on the world. Cultures have completely changed, both consciously and subconsciously because of this game. I want to show the game, show some of these changes, show what it's like and really give people a feel for the game and the community. I want to raise awareness, create exposure.

Honestly, for class the doc needs to be 10 minutes. Upon me starting my preproduction work it immediately spiraled out of control and will most likely end up being a full length documentary!

And honestly the response here has been the best so far. Although I have gotten response from other places I posted looking this has been the best. Because of that I'm going to tell you guys a little secretsecret.

I decided to throw up a miracle and see if blizzard wants to have any fun with this. I'm honestly not even expecting a response from them. But if their willing to work with me in any way shape or form I would be absolutely ecstatic. Like I said, throwing up a miracle.

I see, I just think it is hard to realize that, as you only have vid interviews that are finished already and you cannot set up an interview with those players making them say things like 'hi my name is... and i play sc'. Like the idea to make it rapid... I think you also need something like the story line. What message should that movie tell the ppl? Is it for casual ppl or the sc fans? etc

I'm directing it towards people who don't even know that the competitive community exists. I want to create awareness and get more people into it. Basically help drive forward the chance to make the American and European gaming scene big like Korea instead of a basement subculture.

You say gaming tournament a lot of people think a small dark room with a lot of smelly pizza pie faced teenagers. Sometimes true but that's really not the case.

What I am hoping to get out of the interviews is 2 stories. One of the players and one of the game itself. Starcraft is released, players flock to game. Starcraft sales reach X million, tournaments start popping up. Starcraft is X years old, WCG/ESWC/ all that fun stuff start hosting tournaments and making this a big deal.

The story is how starcraft came to be what it is now and the relationship between game and players, players and players, players and developers (yay patch 10 years later!), and the game and many other aspects of the world. For example, there is now a Starcraft course being taught at UC Berkley. Another example of this is a professor at (insert university here, i forget at the moment and don't feel like digging through my research cause i'm about to head out) who teaches a military science course and one of his key tools is Starcraft.

Basically starcraft was released as a game and became so much more. I want to show and tell how that happened. The beauty of the interviews is that when I'm firing the questions I can not direct the answers but ask questions that will get coverage of topics I want talked about to narrate the story.

I do have a bunch of this mapped out I'm just hesitant to release too much at one time especially with all the other fun stuff I have going on.

But keep picking my brain, responses might be slow for the next day or so but i'm still reading!

Seeing as they are teaching starcraft in university class in UC Berkeley http://www.teamliquid.net/forum/viewmessage.php?topic_id=86501

You might want to interview some of the students, and possibly the teachers of that class for your doc. Atleast maybe throw that info in there somewhere, because it's quite unique.
They might be able to explain how they are useing intellectual analysis of sc to branch out to other subjects. And makeing it an art(like chess).

But guess you might have to travel to them for the interviews, possibly they have a similar green room on that campus that you could use there if you travel to interview them? I dunno.

Oh, I see where the 50 interviews come in now. In that case you don't really need interviews, you just need voxpops. I still think 50 might be a bit OTT, but maybe I'm imagining it wrong. I would do this:

Find out if there is a big event where SC players will congregate. If not, maybe suggest a party to watch a big MSL match or something. Then you can go there with your stuff and get all the bites at one shot.

Alternatively, since you are planning on having really, really quick cuts, you might be able to get away with just photos of the later faces. Because your cuts get faster, you might end up with

"Hi, my name is..."
"My name is..."
"Name is..."
"..."
"..."
"..."
And then finally insert rapidly changing photos and overlay fake audio... it will be too fast to tell.

That way you can get everyone to send you high res photos in a certain format from a certain angle. Lighting won't matter much because the photos are flashing so rapidly.

Also think carefully about visuals. It was torture trying to get the visual variety in Korea because so often you end up with a bunch of people sitting around and clicking. Lectures are nice intellectually, but visually, they're again people sitting down. Computer gaming does not lend itself to visual media, no matter how many effects are thrown in, so you need to figure out some good sequences, even if it's 10 minutes long. This is especially so if you intend it to be for a non-gaming audience.

Side-by-side Action.

Thats how I hope to solve the issue of the games being a sit down sport.

If you need a good example of side by side action or are unsure of what I am actually talking about, watch the new 007 movie Quantum of Solace. The horse race/chase scene and the opera/chase scene are probably some of the most well-done side-by-side action in film. It's rather difficult to get right but when it is done right, it is remarkably compelling.

Sigh, just gave away one of my aces!

Another reason for the large number of interviews, well 2.

1) I know I'm not going to get 50+. So shooting for that and ending up with less but still a viable amount is what I'm looking for.

2) Not to say it up front but I'm more then willing to bet most of the players will have little to no media experience. The mass amount of interviews function almost as a casting call. If I do 50 interviews I would expect to have a few VERY strong characters in there but still not many. Where if I isolate myself to 10 interviews, I may end up with many weak characters and no one with a strong enough interview to really guide the doc.

Am I going to get 50? Probably not. Would it be sweet? Yea, but if I get 20 that should be more then enough. Engineers golden ratio - 22:1. For every 22 ideas, theres maybe 1 good one. For every 22 people, maybe there's 1 good one! lol

Thanks for the support. Keep the information flowing though! I definitely need to know of any up coming events and anyone available for interview. Numbers are looking great so far but the more the better!

Sounds good to me, although a phone interview to check on their media savviness might work better than having to tramp down with your gear =)

And side by side action is good, but still not enough for a ten minute docu. I mean, the basic shots are:

LS guys sitting and playing
MS guys sitting and playing
CU eyes
CU keyboard hand
CU mouse hand
pull focus mouse hand to keyboard hand and vice versa
Over shoulder shot screen

... which holds for about 30 seconds. You'll need some different scenes... but then, from what you've said, I'm almost 100% sure you've already sorted this out so I'm going to quit having so little faith before you're forced to reveal all your aces =)

Blizzcon is coming up! Unfortunately,

1) Out of my budget and tickets are damn near impossible to get anyway. Last year tickets sold out in about 5 minutes.

2) It's outside of my classroom deadline, although this project will probably go outside of those boundaries anyway.

3) BUDGET! lol

I totally would love to get that footage as there is a lot of good content there but, I'm ashamed to admit this, it just might not be feasible.

On the other hand I am talking to some people about live events and hoping they get to me with osme information on an upcoming live event that I can get some good footage from as well as maybe footage outside the event as well.

If anyone does have some events coming up that they have not mentioned to my (NYC, Boston, down as far as maryland maybe) I'm definitly interested and let me know ASAP!

Also still looking for more interview subjects!

Keep the requests coming!

Update!!!

Ok, here is a small update and some changes.

So far things are going well as far as getting interviews and all that fun stuff. What I want to point out with this update is that I can accept webcam interviews! Basically no matter how far away you are I can now utilize you (although I am still prefering live interviews).

Basically what I need is if you want to be interviewed all you have to do is contact me the same as everyone else. What's important though is that you will need to be willing to work with me. That means you will have to set up a green screen (easy), we will have to sort out a lighting setup (not too bad if you can change locations with your cam pretty easily) and you will need a very good web cam and mic setup. I cannot send you my own but basically if you have an HD webcam and a good mic, you're good to go!

So when you contact me regarding a webcam interview, please include the specs of your webcam. Ideally I need it to shoot in HD, but if it can shoot at 30 FPS and can do a resolution of at least 800x600, it's probably managable.

Being interviewed via webcam does not garuntee screen time in the final product but you've got a better chance then someone who doesn't interview at all, lol.

For the TLDR crowd:

Webcam interviews are go, start contacting me if your interested!

Keep the info coming!

And also I am still looking for a live event anywhere in the nearby states (with a good amount of people) for me to go and get some footage and sound bytes. The sooner the better, but let me know anyway!

Thanks so much guys!

I've actually been PMing back and forth with tasteless and he has agreed to help! So thats good and I will be in touch with him a bit more.

Raithed, I'll PM you and get you some info a bit later, running out the door right now.

Status update:

So far I have 5 interviews scheduled! That's actually really good! (I know I said I wanted 50, basically shoot for the moon, miss and end up with stars or something like that) I am still in the process of scheduling more but I do want to get some foreigners in here to. Not discriminating but I want to display how global it really is.

Remember, webcam interviews and sound bytes are viable so if you were from far far away (loleurope) you can now be useful!

Thanks for all the support so far. Things are slowly starting to fall into place.

I am still looking for a live event to attend, ideally with at least 100 or so people to get some good atmostphere footage and plenty of sound bytes.

the next live event with 100's of people is going to be blizzcon, then wcg.

if you are looking for bits of video of like the crowd, try to download a VOD from an OSL or MSL Final.

Also, if i'm not mistaken infinity[pG] moved to New York from Germany, maybe he's interested.

Is infinity a TL member?

Also I need the event so I can get a bunch of sound bytes from a bunch of players and some video clips. I almost need to direct the clips I'm looking for to get the desired action so I don't need 100s of players, but I need enough to make the event look real lively.

I'm also looking for something very, very, soon. Deadlines are REALLY REALLY lame.

Thanks all!

I just finished a short "video paper" on Starcraft Phenom in S. Korean for my Popular Culture class. Its out on Google Video:

http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=4316536784987943658

I can provide you with some of the background research I found if it helps for your work

I totally just lost sound on my computer, my sound card just went bad. But it looks good. If these video sites didnt compress the shit out of it i'm sure itd look better. Actually inspired me a bit.

As for the research, pfft, who needs research! Have you seen some of the shit on TV?!?! I may actually ask you where you did get some of your video clips cause I think there might be 1 or 2 I want to swindle. Once I get sound back and some free time I will be in touch with you.

Thanks!

Also, not sure where your located, but if you want to be interviewed, that would be good since you do have the background knowledge to present a lot of cool information on tape!

Thanks!

Update:

Tv studio closed all next week (spring break) booooo. No interviews getting done which is lame. I am working on capturing good in game footage as well as sounds and other cool stuff.

I am REALLY REALLY desperate for a few more live interviews though. These are full interviews I'm looking for. And like I said it can be anyone, spectator, player, pro, semi-pro, casual with a good knowledge of the pro-scene and game. Basically anyone who can articulate a lot of good information!

Also looking for soundbytes and webcam interviews of anyone willing.

Also REALLY looking for a live event to go to, big or small where I can get some footage and some soundbytes and short clips as well.

Please let me know guys. I do appreciate all the help and communication.

Hey:

I'd be willing to do an interview. I live in Manhattan NYC, where are you? I've only been playing competitively for a year but I've got a good knowledge of the recent pro scene and I think I can put up a good argument to encourage/publicize Starcraft. However, I'm only 13 years old (could be good or bad - good: diversity, bad: maybe you don't want someone that age haha ^^) =) PM me or email me (pokebunnytaber [at] gmail [dot] com) with info about whether or not you want an interview, and what I should do. Thanks and good luck!

Definitly willing to work with you.

E-mail sent. I'll take the interview either way. If i do end up cutting it out or just using bytes from it, sorry, if some cool stuff gets in, great, if it all gets in, even better! The only concern might be signing a release since you are 13, but nothing too major.

Let's talk diversity. Yes, your young, that's fine, no problem here. Can we get a double count for female? Triple count for (insert random race here)? Lol. Not that we count race or age or anything like that. Everyone in the world is totally colorblind and discrimination free. LoL. But all cool, the more the merrier. I'm not like trying to check off on my list: White guy, Minor, Asian, Female and so on. I don't even care personally. But actually I have had a few females come forward to do some sound bytes and interviews and there was someone else cool who came forward. Totally slips my mind at the moment but they were somewhat important, somehow.

If I remember I'll let you know but hopefully this all turns out real cool. Still looking for a live event and always accepting more interviews.

Keep em coming guys.

Thanks!

Update: CHYEA!

Ok, so it looks like there is going to be a small LAN party this upcoming week. Although not confirmed, it will probably be at web2zone in NYC at some point in the day thursday. So anyone who is interested, check out this thread.

http://www.teamliquid.net/forum/viewmessage.php?topic_id=88517&currentpage=All

I will absolutely be there, with equipment to pick up some interviews and sound bytes. Once I get tired of that I'll probably sit down and play for a bit too!

The more the merrier!

Could use a few more live interviews. If you've been in contact with me already, check your emails! I need to hear back from you to make things official!

But thanks for all the support, it looks like this is slowly piecing together. Oh, and if this gets done as intended (feature length, 42 minutes) by the deadline, I'm pretty sure that's the fastest turn around time for a doc EVER! Lol. My deadline is like the first week of may or something beat like that. But yea, MORE FOOTAGE!

Yea, the length is really gonna depend on a few factors.

Theres a few story elements I need to get. Basically this documentary is going to try to tell 5 different stories (sounds like a lot, but its more of a micro to macro sort of deal so it shouldnt be to confusing). That means each story gets about 8 minutes of screen time if it needs to be averaged. The documentary will be drastically shorter, though, should any specific story not get the proper setup/footage to be told.

And there goes another one of my little secrets about it. Hopefully no one goes ahead and makes a starcraft doc now! Lol. Actually, now that I think about. Storyteller offered to help me out with ideas and stuff, and I shared a bit and haven't heard from him in quite some time.

Sigh, guess its time to go copyright all my stuff...

I have been referred to that once or twice so far. I actually have not had the time but I am going to sit down (hopefully tomorrow) and go through that, a bunch of footage that was offered to me, and take care of a few other things. Today (first day of spring break for me) i took to just blank all my tapes and order a few minor things Ill need in the near future.

Yay for wasting 6 hours to blank filmstock!

Baby-update:

Tomorrow there will be a small gathering at web2zone at 4PM. Anyone is welcome to be there. I will be filiming, maybe even playing (probably not since I don't want to embarrass myself) but it should be a good time.

And more importantly, I NEED THE FOOTAGE!, lol. So be there!

Update!

So I missed out on a chance for some live footage because of..stuff. We'll leave it at that for now, but in any event.

Tasteless is doing all kinds of cool stuff for me, as well as interviews happening over the next week or two.

Apparently I have a deadline for this entire doc of april 21st...sweet. Not happening. But w/e. In other news I am still looking for a live event to get some b-roll as well as accepting any new interviews, as always. Actually, not so much full interviews but really just sound bytes. B-roll and other stuff is coming together and hopefully will be in post at some point within the next week or two.

Also want to add that I will most likely be compiling my current footage and fun stuff as a demo in the hopes to get funding to cover the feature length properly and in more depth. But things actually look good and I am happier with the project more then I was one week ago.

What I could use this week is hi-res images and sound clips of certain lines. If you are interested just drop me a PM. Probably won't take more then 5 minutes of your time to participate in this bit.

Thanks,
Ghost!

Another update for anyone still interested.

Took me a long time but i finally extracted all the sound and music files I want to use. I am still working on extracting video (probably a giant pain in the ass).

I have also received all of The.Crows footage. Lots of really good stuff there. Hopefully tasteless also has his contributions ready soon and crow may have a bit more to put in too. Also have a few other minor interviews.

In short, I almost have all the pieces to the puzzle. Because of that I will be editing a rough cut in the next few days. Basically a rough cut means i set the structure up for it. There will still be plenty of blanks and 'insert image/video here'. So it's not like i'm anywhere near done. It just means I have enough footage where I will actually be doing something.

Post takes a really long time for a few reasons. If I am not happy with something, I can go back and reshoot, if I feel like something isn't covered. Back to more shooting. That and editing just naturally takes a long time. I am also working with after effects to hopefully generate some cool titles and motion graphics.

Also, if anyone wants some real quick facetime in the doc. Send me a hi-res headshot/picture and your full name. I will most certainly include it and also I will put you in the credits! ghostoutlaw@gmail.com

Thanks!

The project is still coming along. I have completed my cut for class.

That cut was 8 minutes and a little rough around the edges. It went over well though, sort of. That cut will be modified some based on the content i receive and the work i do over the summer. I hope to have this complete in its entirety soon.

Unfortunately I will NOT be posting the classroom cut for a whole host of reasons.

1) It's really not finished and its a small piece of a bigger picture. Think wolverine, a lot of people got turned away by the greenscreen leak because they don't understand how vastly different 2 cuts can be. In wolverines case, there was over 15 minutes of footage not present in the leaked cut that was in the final cut. Pretty big deal. In this case theres about 35 minutes not in the leaked cut that will make the final cut, lol.

2) I very much fear blizzard still. Posting my cut up somewhere to be found could draw some heat from them and immediately shut the project down, not fun for anyone.

Those are the 2 biggest players.

And its a real shame I didnt check in a week or 2 ago, I would have loved to be able to attend that LAN to pick up some footage. Although I am more then willing to bet that the LAN center/host would not have allowed filming, as W2Z did not a few moons ago.

Thanks for the support so far. My estimated release date would be for Sept 2009. But take that date with a Blizzard sized grain of salt.

Unfortunately I don't have the official answer to that.

From what the non-managerial staff was able to tell me it is due to the fact that W2Z is closing and they don't want any media attention whatsoever.
