I was wondering what the earliest pro game where someone stacked mutas was...I'm curious as to what it was like way back when.

If anyone remembers the first, or among the first way back when, then please lmk...either at least the set and event/year, or a link to a VOD would be awesome.

Thanks.

It's definitely previous to patch 1.08 when I started playing. But back then no one knew about the larvae trick, so people would run their mutas to geysers or minerals to stack them back, every time you made them fly a route you would need to re-stack them.

Shark[gm] is the one who first noticed it, so try some of his VODs between March - May 2006 year (thats when it was discovered)

Does your post make any sense?

No.

Hongjinho had the first remarkable mutalisk harass; July came along and did even better with it [but still using rudimentary techniques]

For the record, Jinho won the huge muta fight against July on Bifrost.

Then it's just as Romad said. Shark demonstrated it with larvae, but it quickly became used with overlords instead.

Does anyone know how to make the stacked mutalisks attack without un-stacking?

My brother said it's with Hold Position, it worked, but wasn't very effective.
Is it just right clicking to attack? A+click? or what?
"Wanna join my [combo] clan?" "We play turret d competitively"

If you group them with an overlord or a larvae (or something outside the magic box) they shouldn't unstack while they attack.
Super serious.

If someone has the BoxeR vs YellOw Luna vod, that's a good example of pre-shark muta harass.

wow... it's incredible that before muta stacking, zerg was not imbalanced, ... and after muta stacking, zerg was still not imbalanced...

you'd think that a huge advantage like this would cause some balance issues? but no, terran just gets better at micro and base layout, and certain maps are bad for TvZ FE like bluestorm.

That video is from 2006 though. Remember the game.

According to tlpd, it was played 2006-08-14

Hmm...yeah, I just watched a July vs Casy VOD in the 2006 Shinhan OSL.

It's interesting to see how relatively imprecise they were back then as to now...haha.

Thanks for your replies.

I'm pretty sure the first stacked mutalisk harass was from Shark[gm], and that the first televised game where it was used effectively was July vs Hwasin (What an amazing fucking game). I'm pretty sure that game made pimpest plays, because the amount of stuff July kills with his mutas is astounding.

Muta micro was around long before July. The first time I saw stacked mutas doing the slinging thing where they dive in and move back repeatedly is in a Yellow rep back when Lost Temple was still the most played map (around about 2003). Improvements such as grouping them with a larvae/overlord and using hold position came later though.
