I personally like to think that he has nightmares about his 2013 SC2 WCS Global Finals series with sOs every time he has to play offline. It isn't Jaedong's fault, but hearing casters flat out root for him to win makes me an anti-fan.

He admitted it was one of those days where he's "playing so bad he's guaranteed to lose no matter what". JD knew Mini wasn't in best form but he felt helpless against it since his condition that day was the worst and he knew he'd lose despite Mini's form. Seems to be mental block

But I guess since there's so few offline games for BW now, it makes the pressure so much higher. And someone like JD probably always feel extra pressure to perform since he was once the best in the world. But he hasn't actually won an offline BW event since 2010 iirc. JD is unfortunate case of a player relying so much on his instinct and mechanical plays and he was a real god when he was young and both of his strengths were maxed out. Now that the scene has mellowed out in favor of more macro oriented style, its no question macro style zergs who have also added newer exciting strategies have started winning ASL. JD doesn't have that "macro" base and it is said that he used to not rank in top 5 or even 10 whenever the teams did some practice matchups against themselves and Woongjin zergs always reigned top (queen/Soulkey). JD also has habits from his glorious days he can't shake off whenever he's in critical moment. It seems like its hard wired in him to micro in a certain way or make split second decision. It may have worked back then when his decision making/micro was instanteous and step ahead of his opponent but not anymore. I'm just happy he's still participating. His mentality is easily the best among all pros IMO.

In the Ginuda interview that jinjin posted the other month he said he would go 36-0 in internal ranking matches.

Yes he would easily rank top in his own team but when combining with other teams he would rank outside of top 5

That, at least for me, was how prime JD operated and now you barely see that coming out when it matters, although his recent ASL entries had glimpses of that. This doubt started at the tail end of Kespa, when he started getting smacked by Flash. No doubt that, if he ever finds it again, he will be very scary once again.

Jaedong stated explicitly in past videos that he doesn't have the same drive to win as before but he will not let his skill drop too much. He also stated that during his peak years, he was not a human, more like an AI training non stop. Pretty sure he is no where near that approach anymore. On top of that he is at an age where he probably would like to meet someone, have a family etc... Regardless he still has the best macro as zerg with effort and soma not being far from him, but his screen still moves twice faster than anyone, I swear bro has a 10 terabytes bandwidth between neurones. That's no excuse, PirateZerg could do it and he was active around the same time.
