I really don’t understand why because I’ve never found it to be anything other than unusable It’s a pity, I think for most many cases it is better than other methods, has its drawbacks too but it’s a useful tool

Why would you go MOVE MOUSE TO EDGE + MOVE SCREEN + MOVE MOUSE BACK when you can just go HOLD BUTTON + MOVE SCREEN?

I use an Xtrfy mouse, but the associated official software doesn't recognize my mouse and therefore doesn't work. Is there perhaps software from another brand that's free and available for mice of different brands?

It’s insane that more people don’t do it tbh, you can keep your mouse reliably centred the majority of the time, which seems pretty advantageous. Does he really never do it? I’ll have to keep a closer eye on his streams haha. I think there are good use cases for hitting the mouse to the edge of the screen. Retreating and attack while stutter stepping, especially if you’re splitting being one. Perhaps I’m still not a full convert and it’s not 100% naturally ingrained in me but it definitely feels more natural/simple to move in/out of the edge of your screen the ‘old fashioned’ way.

Using middle-click scrolling is inprecise at best and waste more time than it saves. Most pros dont even side-scroll at all because it isnt necessary. You jump through your locations by hotkeying buildings/locations(f-keys) and thats how you move the viewport most efficient. Lesson here is hotkeys/location hotkeys = good, side-scrolling/map-scrolling/middleclick-scrolling = bad. Best to learn the correct way while ure a noob because later its difficult to change bad habits. I play this new game called 'BAR' and asked a fellow PRO why he doesnt use hotkeys more, he said back in the day in 'Total Annihilation' you didnt have hotkeys so he got used to never use em and now cant change his behaviour.

If you hold and drag in a web browser for instance, that movement has a certain speed, so there is an equivalent for mouse work outside of BW.

That's totally unrealistic. Yes, hotkeys are great and you should use them a lot, but there are many instances still where you will want to scroll the screen. That goes for pros as well.

BW pros constantly screen-scroll when moving armies around and fighting. All the time. Scroll wheel scrolling is mostly more efficient here, if it actually worked in BW, which it doesn’t due to settings because you keep your mouse centred. So come to that jump to your base or your macro facilities you’re reliably centred on that stuff already Versus screen scrolling where you can be at the edge of your screen before jumping to something else and have to move accordingly You want your mouse centred, otherwise you wouldn’t have your building hotkeys and camera hotkeys centred Nothing you said was particularly accurate. Wheel button scrolling just outright doesn’t work in BW, but it’s objectively the better way to do it in most scenarios

Dont get confused with what i mean by scrolling, if you need to move your screen to move a unit in a battle thats totally understandable, but you shouldnt move from your base to battle using scroll, thats a hotkey action. To give a great example of perfect usage of hotkeys and as little scrolling as possible:

OK, that's something very different from "Most pros dont even side-scroll at all" which you said before.

The best starcraft 2 players switched to this even players that didn't before, because if you need to move your units downward, you don't need scroll down then move your mouse back up to click. Also when you're dynamically moving your units around this will be the most effective method since you can see where your units are going before you even press, and your mouse will always be in the middle of your screen

I know I am late to answer but I have found a solution. I always use scroll wheel to move in sc2, only that I have it bound to "e" instead since I like that keybind more, this way I dont need to move my right pointerfinger of left mouse button. Anyway, the solution is this: Use a autohotkey script that lowers the sensitivity of your mouse while holding down scroll button, in my case this is E. This is my full ahk script that works very well for me, you can use any ai to tailor it to your specific needs: #NoEnv SendMode Input SetWorkingDir %A_ScriptDir% #Persistent SetBatchLines -1 ; Sätt känsligheten när `E` hålls ned lowDPI := 2 ; Den känslighet du vill när `E` hålls nere (justera om du vill ha långsammare) isPaused := false ; När `E` hålls ned, ändra musens känslighet till lägre e:: ; Hämta nuvarande musens hastighet innan vi ändrar DllCall("SystemParametersInfo", "UInt", 113, "UInt", 0, "UInt", lowDPI, "UInt", 2) SendInput, {MButton down} ; Skickar mittklick när `E` hålls ned KeyWait, e SendInput, {MButton up} ; Släpper mittklick när `E` släpps ; Återställ musens känslighet (vi sätter tillbaka till standardvärdet när `E` släpps) DllCall("SystemParametersInfo", "UInt", 113, "UInt", 0, "UInt", 10, "UInt", 2) return ; Pausa scriptet med höger Ctrl RControl:: Suspend return
