It's a relatively new gaming platform that works like hamachi. Right now most of the starcraft players on it are Chinese but it's open to everyone. Some neat features are: everyone has their ping displayed next to their ID, good selection of channels, can instant message and chat just like on B.net, supports Dota, SC and WC3, and probably the best of all, supports a ladder that ranks by levels.
I played on the US server today and it seemed very smooth but I was only playing vs Chinese people. The interface looks decent and overall everything seems well-done. It's basically a new battle.net except it uses technology similar to hamachi, and you can't create channels. Give it a try. This may finally be my chance to interact with non-chinese beings. Msg me at anytime for game.
edit: this thing has anti-hack too and it works
also, before you play, make sure you tunnel him and he does the same to you, right click on his ID and select tunnel.

Its not that new thing, it was actually posted here like a year ago or so, but for some reason not many people started to actually use it.
This really should replace Hamachi as our non-latency gaming client.

and inc I know you're licking your chops waiting to stomp me with your toss but in these 4 months I've lived in bw seclusion in China and watching you foreigners like a chinese spy satellite, studying your every move, I've come out brand new and my zerg is more chinese than ever, the balance of power has shifted...msg me for game
|
Oh didn't know it was old, it only appeared in China recently so I assume it's new, it's a big deal here cuz now chinese people can finally play with foreigners without b.net which 99.9% of sc players don't have cuz everyone uses pirated copies.

most chinese still lag with foreigners on it?

less than any other method that was used previously, in China southerners use one company's connection and northerners use another, the northern connection is better for foreign connections but worse for domestic, the southern vice versa. Progamers in China have access to both so they're able to play with foreigners but most top chinese gamers practice in their homes so their connection is shit, that includes hbq
with this gg thing people with the shit connection can play with much less lag from their homes

I've been using GGClient for games with friends because of Bnet's latency issues and my friends' unwillingness to get Hamachi. I've never seen anyone else in there though.
|
Is this better than hamachi?
|
anyone wanna play? (cough incontrol cough)

We just need koreans to play in it and it'll be perfect.

It is old... it is famous in the WC3 scene. I wonder why SC players dont use it, since I think it is pretty good. Should be better then Hamachi actually. But it cant kill EVERY lag 100% (for example with Chinese). Well...

I admit, I played someone who was skilled finally. He was a good T, really just outplayed me TvT
|
I've been using it for quite a while...there are a lot of DotA people on it ;o.

ggc has been out for a while, and yeah it's really popular in wc3 for both dota and melee my friend always has his wc3l matches on them usually
and supposedly the delay and pings are "slightly" better on hamachi, but ggc is a lot more stable
you guys are familiar with the thing where sometimes when you try to get a game with a few people on hamachi, some people can see the game and join it where some people can't? haven't had that happen with ggc for me yet

I played with someone from Taiwan and it lagged
|
you have to tunnel him first
|
Hmm, so no lag with China? i will give it a try.
|
Just consider 3bars as playable, thats the border line. It could go from lag-torelable to lag as fuck.. GGC is old, twas primarily used in wc3 leagues in competitive play and of course DotA. Initially, skill level in SC is comparatively lower compared to iCCup.

how did you get it to work with iccup launcher? i can't figure it out

Used it a while ago with Manit0u, he's from Poland and I'm from eastern Canada, very noticeable difference compared to battle.net. I wrote a thread on it when it first came out and it was in beta... you can read that here!
You can see the date is from 2005, so indeed it has been around a while.

well... when i used it, it sometimes crash.. when ggc crash... u d/c from the game.. hamachi never crashed for me in the past.
btw the quality of random dota games on it are garbage. lots of brazillian and filipinos who dont speak english well.

This is kind of unrelated, but I can't post my own thread. >_> I was recently looking to find PenguinPlug aka the WGTour Launcher, and WGTour has been down... for a while. =\ Does anyone have an alternate download? Or does anyone know of any programs that have RWT or anti-hack as features?
Speaking of which, how exactly does the anti-hack on launchers and such work? Is it specific only to games plaid in that ladder/league?
On topic: looks interesting, I'll definitely give it a try. I've noticed some probs with Bnet and latency, so this might solve the prob. Thanks for the mention!

I tried getting BWLauncher before but ran into probs with the NET framework. >_> Had a look into and got it to work this time. There are some useful plug-ins, but I was wondering, is there any anti-cheat built into it at all, or just the plug-ins.
As far as the plug-ins go, I'm assuming the WGTour Launcher (linked from the old PP website) would be using the same plug-ins if I could access it, so I wouldn't be any better off. Is there any dif betwee them with plug-ins/features and whatnot?
