I noticed in this FPV that Bisu is doing the Return Cargo command only when his workers reach the 2nd Nexus, but it can be done better, by pressing "c" just after the 1st move to mineral patch, so you'll get the resources immediately and forget about any worker holding minerals in the path, and don't lose time if workers move to a mineral patch loaded (which obviously he can handle) .
  • The loaded workers must clearly see the patch (not in fog).
  • When sending a worker to build something outside base, then rather than return it loaded to the base's mineral, you press "c" after move to mineral to print the patch in the worker mind !

If you do it this way, they return to mining from the nearest patch if I recall correctly. Meaning they wouldn't leave the first nexus, or am I wrong on that? In sc2 if functions they way you are describing, but I think in sc1 it's different.

That's the point - you don't lose time those workers having minerals have to get to 2nd base. They just cargo it to 1st base and go mining to 2nd one.

And that's what I said, they DONT go mining to the second base if you do this. They stay at the first base unless I am wrong. I can't test it right now.

what a mindless mid-late game by bisu -- lots of wasted dragoons
and yeah recalling on tanks is a good idea but doesn't work with dragoons

also,

they will mine the mineral that they were issued to mine

so if you right click the natural minerals then press return cargo, yeah you get the money up front and they continue to the natural minerals

I've been using cargo since forever...

If you mine from base 1 for example and ur worker holds minerals from the mineral line from base 1 and hit C - the worker will go back to the nearest base, leave resources, and then proceed to mine from base 1.

If you tell ur workers to go mine from base 2 and hit C - the workers that hold any resources will leave them to the nearest base and continue to the mineral line at base 2.

Also, cargo is really useful if u have scouting probe that holds any resources and you need to make it move to a mineral asap - then u just hit C and don't need to press keys to move to a mineral line or gas station to make the worker run away.

Great trick, never heard of it

Here's a full TL;DR for anyone stumbling in this thread:
Workers will always mine from the patch you tell them to. But if they already have cargo, pressing "c" will force them to bring minerals to the closest nexus/CC/hatch and then continue with your instructions. So when you are transferring probes to a new base, press "c" right after telling them to transfer, and the ones with cargo will drop it off first.

Method:

1. Grab 12 workers at base A
2. Right click mineral patch at base B
3. Press "c" immediately

I especially like the trick with a mineral-holding scout, thanks for sharing that. It will give your scout an automatic mineral walk move to home.

What happens if the worker mined your opponent's mineral and later on you press 'c' when you need to mineral walk up their ramp after they'd blocked it off? Will the worker mineral walk without vision?

It will yes, it's a way of mineral walking up their ramp without breaking any of the rules.

That's why I always mine some of their minerals with my scouting SCV

Should be mentioned that this does not work the same with gas. With one exception: If you send a mineral-holding worker to a geyser, then press C, the worker will resume mineral mining after returning the minerals. Geyser to geyser transfer and geyser to mineral transfer works just fine, though.
So beware when trying to quickly saturate a geyser with transferred workers using this trick.

If you send a gas-holding worker to the minerals and hit C it will return the gas and go to mine the minerals.

Edit: that's basically what you said lol.

Hi jello_biafra, you're talking like you know this before and use it, but the replay (about PvTTT by Dragoon only) you gave me before, doesn't say that !? you're welcome [image loading][image loading]

There's another trick with minerals, you can stop your opponent from mining on 1 mineral patch by mining yourself, waiting 4 seconds and then right clicking the mineral again, "resetting" the worker. Meanwhile, your opponent's workers can't use that mineral patch. In fact, they will outright avoid it and won't stand near it waiting.

I was wondering how useful this was, so I ran some tests. Normally my scouting scv arrives at his base at 1:45 and the first dragoon or ling (12 hatch) comes out at around 3:20. I ran a test by using and not using the trick and seeing how many minerals I have at 3:20 with 1 base making scvs non stop. When not using the trick, the scv is just stopped.

Normal mining: 1210 minerals at 3:20
With mineral block trick: 1170 minerals

So you prevent your opponent from mining 40 minerals, more or less. Not sure how much that can affect his BO. Maybe it delays the 2nd pylon for protoss, for example.

That's could be useful strategy when not preoccupied by this while wasting worker production time, building workers non stop is comparative thing, I saw pro players doesn't actually waste 1s of worker cut early game, so from 1 base, Protoss should have 27 Probes @5:00.

With low APM players like me, this could prevent REAL workers non stop.

I didn't claim to, I press C when workers reach second nexus/cc like Bisu does, what I meant was you can mineral walk through a unit blocking a ramp with the return cargo command.

By the way, this is the replay for the FPV in the 1st post, anyone knows more recent replay+FPV altogether ?

Just want to mention another useful case, that is when you escape with the workers from a drop to your minerals line, and because they might've been holding Gas as well, so sending them to minerals will discard the Gas cargo.

Now the difficult part about this return cargo trick is that its easily forgettable, so it needs some practice just to remember it when needed.

Why I still see players transfers their workers loaded !

Can't this workers-transfer-trick be added to Liquipedia or have some light on it like the Total Recall (which might happen only in PvT) !!! I hope that not only the elite, can talk loudly here.
