SC:R Settings
After hundreds of games struggling with my accuracy of my mouse, finally after growing very frustrated with yet another loss I kept searching and searching till I came across a reddit thread....
https://www.reddit.com/r/broodwar/comments/73xap9/mouse_settings_all_options_are_bad_but_one/
I never really messed with my Windows Mouse settings in the past when playing Brood War so it never even crossed my mind to adjust the Windows mouse settings to get better accuracy in BW, EVEN when using the ' Mouse Sensitivity ' is clicked.
So if you were like me and did not know that adjusting your Windows Mouse Settings to 6 / 11 would positively affect your mouse accuracy in BW, please try this and see if it helps you yield better control on the battlefield.
I could not find a thread anywhere about this, and after recently seeing others complaining of this issue, I thought it may be useful to pass this information on.
6 / 11 (Windows Mouse setting) gave my mouse control life again, but also in combination with some other settings, so it may not be the same for everyone, and also I still have some questions on some other Settings that also seem to affect my mouse accuracy(While in HD), it just seems to slow it down or make it more jumpy, as follows...
-Hardware Cursor - (Setting is Explained) (ON for me) -Use Mouse Scaling - (Maybe this helps if you are playing in Fullscreen or Windowed, not sure, but this brought me best accuracy) (OFF for me)
Smooth Unit Turning - Does this affect how you and your opponents units micro or are controlled? I've yet to understand, I leave it on just to be safe, although with it off it seems the units seem more responsive at times, maybe that is just the animation as it suggests.[/br] (ON for me)
Real Time Lighting - This setting absolutely makes my game / mouse laggy and seem less accurate, most likely because of my computer itself cannot run with all the settings on. (OFF for me)
Environment Effects - I am not sure if this effects the mouse at all, but in my tests I have just left it off along with the Real time lighting to be safe.
Shadow Stacking - I leave this off just to hopefully increase performance while in HD, not sure what the best option would be to increase performance on an older machine running SC:R in HD.
Please leave your input on any settings above, I am trying to better understand and i'm sure a lot of newcomers to the scene are as well. Thanks!

I use 6/11 windows, enhanced precision off, hardware cursor, and 1000 DPI. This is what I settled on after getting aggravated having to fiddle with my mouse settings after every single patch as Blizz continually changed how the settings worked. I like that by using the Windows settings I minimize the chance that blizz will further fuck up my in-game mouse settings. I believe you can also untick hardware cursor and have none of the mouse settings selected, but that doesn't feel any different from having hardware cursor selected. It's rather stupid that it's even an option.
I think dynamic lighting looks like crap, so I don't use it although my computer can run it. In addition to being ugly IMO, it also changes the colors of some units; watch an orange SCV turn left to mine—it becomes brown. Dynamic lighting just exacerbates RM's already poor color scheme (try keeping track of a zealot/archon fight between white/yellow/brown/orange). Seriously, send 12 brown zealots + archons vs 12 orange zealots + archons. It's extremely difficult to tell them apart. This is not an issue with SD graphics. You can see this very easily if you do the above and then press F5, as brown and orange are much more distinct in SD. If I could play on the true old SD graphics I would, but RM's SD is not the same.

same, 6/11 windows, all bw mouse settings off (so it uses my windows setting) w/ 1k dpi

I have tried similar settings with the mouse settings off and DPI set to 1000 but it seems a little more responsive with BW mouse settings on rather than off for me, may just be my mouse not sure. I also forgot to mention the enhanced pointer precision, in most places it has that recommended to be turned off.
Also, TT1, do you use Mouse acceleration at all?

How the hell do you guys manage to use 1000DPI and 6 windows sensitivity? I use 6 in windows and 400 DPI, which means you guys have over twice as high sensitivity as me

400 dpi seems very uncomfortable unless you're using some sort of in-game settings as well. In fact, I used to play at 2400 DPI and found coming down very difficult. I forced myself to get used to increasingly lower DPIs in order to improve my accuracy. I could maybe go down a bit more but 1000 is about my minimum. I should mention I play in 4:3 as well.
400 dpi = 5 inches to move the mouse from the left side to the right side on a 1080p screen if I'm not mistaken. That seems like way too much movement for me. I want the amount of movement from my hand required to move my mouse from the left to the right side of my 4:3 screen in SC to be equal to a comfortable swivel of my wrist without moving my forearm at all. 1000 DPI is basically exactly that for me; any lower than that means I have to move my forearm or swivel my wrist to the point of discomfort in order to move the mouse from one side of the screen to the other (i.e. scrolling the minimap).

Yeah pretty basic stuff, as any other settings other than 6/11 will make it skip pixel.
Do not use mouse accel or improve mouse precision also (windows / mouse driver).

Last uses 1k dpi as well, i used to use 800 dpi when i played on 4:3 but i went to 1k after switching to widescreen.
Enhanced pointer precision is off, of course

You can't tell sensitivity just from DPI, you also need to know the resolution of the screen
500dpi on 720p feels the same as 1000dpi on 1440p

using Display Mode "Windowed[Fullscreen]" in remastered will make your mouse lag 99%, use a different Display Mode.
|
Anyone here who can use the Fullscreen mode without having stretched screen issues? I tried everything, "maintain aspect ratio" settings on my graphics control panel (intel HD4600). Because of this I always use Windowed-Fullscreen

So I found out there's another setting that affects mouse speed, at least on Windows 10. There's this "scale and layout" setting which might be 100%/125%/150%. Ideal setting seems to be 100%. I had it at 150% (big monitor, windows sets it automatically to 150%) and the mouse did not seem as precise.
